Question for the experts who've been:

I hate to waste the day in travel time but I've heard such wonderful things about Trunk Bay that I'm torn. Is it really worth all the travel time or would I be better off sticking to a beach on St. Thomas??

Thanks,

Joanne

I absolutely LOVED trunk bay....it was beautiful. The water was crystal clear and the bottom of the Ocean was pure sand. They had little waves...enough to kind of jump with.....The beach area itself is small but we were the only ones there at that time and I have gotten some great pictures. I am more than glad I went and would go again in a heartbeat!!!!

As far as snorkeling..I have never done this before and decided to try it. The fish were pretty...little Dori (Finding Nemo) fish were all over. I was a little scared..only because I hadnt done this before. I swam the rest of the time. Do it...you wont regret it!!!!

Trunk Bay is HEAVEN!!!!!
There is no other place like it...Only problelm is that there is not enough time to enjoy it....Get there and quickly get settled and jump in the water

You will not reget it!!!!

Yes absolutely it was worth it! I hope to go back to St. John for a full vacation some day.

I second everything the other poster said-the clearest, most beautiful water, the softest sand, and great snorkeling.

Go, go!

DH and I decided last minute to go to Trunk Bay to snorkel, rather than go to Coki Beach. The people in the taxi with us said Trunk Bay was beautiful....little did we know it was a little bit of Heaven! It was the most beautiful beach we have seen, not at all crowded, and the snorkling was the best we have ever done. Since it is a state park, there is a snorkling path that you follow. There is a lifeguard there, who mostly yells to snorklers not to touch the coral. There is a nice restroom and shower area....very, very clean, and a snackbar. We plan on going back to Trunk Bay next August. Highly recommend this beach::yes::

I've been to Trunk Bay almost every time that we traveled to St. Thomas and it is always the highlight of the trip. I actually have a photo of it on my refrigerator (for about 5 years now). It is a little slice of paradise and as long as you allow ample travel time back and forth to the ship - it is the best excursion in St. Thomas.

Can anyone tell me if there are shells on the beach there? Does'nt matter how tiny. I have a shell obsessed DD and this will be her first opportunity ever to do some shell hunting:hyper:

Can you take shells from this beach since it is a state park??? I do know that you can't take shells from CC so I thought ST. Thomas or St Marteen would be a good opportunity for a 7 yr old to search for shells---This activity will probably be the complete highlight of her trip so if anyone knows what would be the best beach on either of the islands to do this I would love to know! Thanks a bunch!!:sunny:

Thanks everyone!!

Any more opinions out there??

How about the shell question from princess crazy?

I don't recall if there were shells or not, as we were headed for the snorkling. However, I do recall that they did not want you to remove anything, since it is a state park and national treasure. So even if there were shells, hunting them and taking them would be a no-no.

We went to St John from St Thomas on our Eastern cruise in May and the day we went over, Trunk Bay was packed so the taxi driver drove another mile or two and we went to Cinnamon Bay. (I should mention that we almost always do our own thing in port and this could be one of the times that its not worth it because the Disney excursion is much more time efficient!) While St John was absolutely beautiful, we spent more than half of our day in transit and wouldn't do it again. Leave the ship, walk to the taxi area, taxi to the ferry, wait for the boat, ferry ride, walk to the taxi area, taxi ride to the bay, walk to the beach area .... and of course repeat on the way back.

Thanks, Mickeyfanmom. We took the official Disney excursion. The narrated boat ride there and back was fun, and we had an awesome time at the beach. It was absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to go back there someday!

Wow!! Thanks for the pictures, Angela!

They are gorgeous and they remind me of Hawaii!

I'm still quite torn on whether on not to spend all of that travel time. As dwkwootton said, I don't want to spend a 1/2 day in transit.

Anyone else want to convince me!!??

Thanks,

Joanne

Did you guys do your own thing or did you do a DCL excursion? I'm wondering if we can do this on our own. Do you still get to do the snorkeling for free if you have your own equipment?

Lynda

There is no charge to snorkel at Trunk Bay. We have our own snorkel equipment, not sure if there is a place to rent it there. People are there to swim and to snorkel. Just ask the lifeguard where the best area is to snorkel. We started over where the large rock island was. The fish we saw were absolutely beautiful, as was the coral.

We went to Trunk Bay on our own, cheaper than Disney's excursion. The taxi's are right at the boat when you get off and our taxi driver knew the ferry schedule and said he would get us on the next ferry scheduled to leave. On St. John, the taxi's are waiting at the dock for you to get off and take you to Trunk Bay. There were many taxi's waiting at Trunk Bay to take you back to the ferry, so transportation was not a worry. I think the time it took to get to Trunk Bay was well worth it once we arrived at Trunk Bay. We even had time to do some shopping at Havensight Mall before we reboarded! :D

When you see calendars of "Great Beaches," you can be sure that Trunk Bay will be on it. It's one of the most beautiful in the world!

We are going on our 3rd Eastern in April and will definetly be going to Trunk Bay. I have been to both Trunk and Cinnimon Bay when Trunk is too crowded. They are both fantasitc! One of the highlights of the cruise! Have done both Excursion and on our own. I like to do it on our own, less rushed feeling, can spend more time on the island. I found the excursions to be high priced rushed trips.
