Is three trips to Disney in one year overkill?

We went to Disney in Jan and LOVED it!!! But, Dh was sick for 4 of our days. Ds was sick for 2 (and then got lost on the first day back at the park!). So, I was at the parks with four kids for 2 days by myself (and another two days alone with three!)!! But, it was still our best vacation EVER!!!

So, we came home and I immediatelly wanted to start planning our next vacation to Disney. Dh wanted to take a cruise. I booked us on a Disney cruise for next Jan.

Okay - then, free dining comes out. I book a vacation in September.

Is this overkill? Will it take some of the magic out of the trips? My reasoning for going in September is that my youngest will still be 2 and, therefore free! It'll be the last time we can go officially as a family of 5 (and stay in a cheaper resort!). I also want to go and have dh with us so he can truly enjoy the vacation.

If you can afford it and DH is in agreement with you on all the trips, then go for it! Will it take some of the magic away? That's a highly personal factor but I would doubt it! By the time it's all said and done, you will have had three very different trips (assuming the Sept. trip is a healthy one! :upsidedow ). The cruise is a different experience all together; still Disney, but different.

Have a GREAT time!

I don't think it's overkill.

We went:
May 2007 - 8 nights
July 2007 - 9 nights
Dec. 2007 6 nights

So NO....I think it's perfectly great!!:thumbsup2
(so far, we've got 2 trips booked for 2008, for a total of 17 nights)

Nope we're doing 3 trips in 1 year and we are psyched. The first leg kicks off on 5/13 just wife and myself the next 2 we're bringing daughter .

Well...technically, the cruise is not WDW...so you are really doing two trips and a cruise.

However, three trips sounds great too! We did Feb, March, and Augus last year....then held off until the following March. It's only the middle of May and I'm going through withdrawl. We have Hilton Head coming....so a little taste and then back to the world in October.

Does the magic end? No, but it changes. You settle into a nice comfortable place where you don't have to feel rushed, you see different things, and you just enjoy yourselves. We love it every time. Also, it is fun to see how my dd's react differently as they grow. My dd3 is just growing into the princess stage and dd-almost 6 is just growing out. Now she is into roller coasters and HSM.

We're doing a cruise next March...just for some variation.

P.S. However, my dd's do refer to counselors/workers everywhere as "cast members". We've been talking about sleep-away camp as an option for next summer and she said "Well, will the cast members stay in the cabin with me to sleep?"

Heehee. Dh is only half-way there on the Sept trip. He'll do it, but he's not so excited about it. Yea - the Sept trip needs to be a healthy one!!!

Oh good! So, we're not the only ones!!! How were each of the trips different?

good lord, no, I'm Jealous;)

LOL!!

Oh good!! I was so afraid the kids would just be bored with too many trips. But it sounds like they'll just "graduate" to other things!

It's so weird that you mention withdrawal. I SOOOO want to leave NEXT WEEK!!! I can't wait to go back. The feeling when there was just SO wonderful. Maybe I'm so obsessed because I never went as a kid. I dunno! But, I LOVE it now and my kids cannot wait to go back!

Oh -and dd watches the cruise podcasts on line like they're Barney movies!!!

Very cute about the cast members!!! I'd send my kids to a Disney sleep-over anytime!!! LOL

Oh good! So, we're not the only ones!!! How were each of the trips different?

Well we stayed at different resorts each trip last year.
May - SSR
July - BCV
Xmas - AKV

We also try to do something new each trip.
Some things we've done...

Cirque de Soleil
Illuminations Celebration cruise
mini-golf
renting a Surrey bike
renting a boat at the CBR marina
MVMCP
sleigh ride at Wilderness Lodge
Spirit of Aloha dinner show
Disneyquest

This summer we're going to the Hoop de Doo Review show. We're also planning to rent the boats at DTD. We can't wait until the kids are old enough so we can all take the Segway tour. Hope they still have it in 6 years!

Well, to a lot of people outside of these boards it would be overkill. But to us Disney-obsessed members of this message board, no, not overkill at all. !:lmao: We're just jealous.

I started thinking about our next trip (this coming September) on my way home from our last one (February 2007). My parents don't get it. They think my plans are overkill. They can't understand why I would want to spend 8 days at Disney. I'd love to plan a second trip for this year, one just for myself without my DD. But it will probably have to wait until next year. Oh well...

I think 3 trips in one year sounds just about right! We usually go at least two times and the last two years we've done 4 trips each year! We just find new things to do or see. We try to do our favorite things every time, but then switch up some of the other rides each time. We make it our mission to find the new characters who maybe weren't out three months earlier and get autographs. We spend alot more time enjoying the pools and DVC resort community centers and resort activities then we used to. I wouldn't/couldn't go back to less trips! Go for it!!

We were there 10/06, 5/07, 12/07 and we're going back in 5/08, each for a week.
So 3 trips in a year isn't too much for me. :thumbsup2

You can't do everything on any one trip, so they will be different vacations. And one is a cruise, so that doesn't count. I don't think it is overkill, but you are asking the wrong crowd here. But hey, we're going in both 10/24- 11/2 and 11/25-12/2!! I'm also thinking of a long weekend in February and then a week long trip in the summer. Our last trip was Dec. 2007.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I was seriously worried that my kids would be so used to it that it would take away some of the magic. We'll just do different things this time - and dh has promised he won't be sick!!!

Now I'm really excited about this year!!!

We went 4 times last year and we loved it. We have already gone once this year and will be here in Sept for free dining. On our first trip ever we tried to do everything. It wore us out. For us the more we go the more we can relax take our time and enjoy it even more. The magic is still there. We have been 7 times since August 2005.

No way! We did 3 reips in '06 and we had a wonderful time each trip! I wish we could afford to do 3 again this year, but I'll settle for the 2 we have- and we're leaving tomorrow and I should be asleep as I have to get up @ 3:30- but, no- here I am! LOL

You're asking on the Dis if 3 trips in a year is overkill?
Oh no! If we could afford it we'd be there at least monthly!
Or we'd move back!
There's plenty to do! I don't think it would diminish the magic at all!:thumbsup2
