Okay we are a family of 5 :) Great for us but not great for Disney. Okay so this is what I found out (let me know if I am correct)..... the only mod resort that does a family of 5 is POR. We have always stayed at CR and love it there but for money reasons we were looking at other ideas. Why would POR be for 5 people but no other mods?? And can anyone tell me what there family of 5 does? Thanks for your help.

With a two year old, you can stay at any mod with a pack n play. As long as the fifth person is under 3, you're okay.

We're a family of 5 too. It depends for us- sometimes I get two rooms at a value (If theirs a good discount), other times we book the CR. We have thought about the cabins too, but I think I'd get annoyed having to take a bus to the bus.

PP is correct about the 2yr old. Also, just a note, I believe you would need to stay in the Alligator Bayou section if you weren't using a pack n play. They have a trundle for the 5th person.

PS-There's always the family suites at ASM also.

Thanks for help everyone :) The baby is going to be 3 in July so our next trip he will be 3 1/2 or 4 since we just came back (Feb 08) we are going to wait till Feb 09 or maybe Feb 2010 (UGH, I have a hard time saying that sad news) but I was thinking if we could do something next year DS would be 3 and I was wondering what rooms we could try. Thanks again!

Our family of 5: me, DH, DD14, DD10, DD7 stay at POR Alligator Bayou section with a trundle bed. All I can say is we're hooked! We looked into the family suites at ASM but too expensive - cheaper to stay in one room at POR. We just love the resort - trust me you won't be disappointed. We stayed there May 2007 on the dining plan with AAA discount and our total package was a little over $3,400. HTH :flower3:

We're a family of 5, too. Frustrating, isn't it? I posted a comment similar to yours a couple of years ago and some genius thought that I should have taken that into account before having the 3rd kid. Unreal.

Anyway, have you thought about Swan/Dolphin? We've done POR 4 times, FW cabins 1. We got a great discount at S/D and they are currently running a special. They do hold 5, too. We're just bringing an airbed because I don't feel like paying $25 a night for a roll away. Call me cheap.

Well that's NOT nice

We have never thought of the S/D. So did you already or you are going to? Let me know what you thought of it.
You must like POR since you have done it 4 times you like it right? Good via bad at POR?

That's absurd. Just pick the child that you like the least and make them stay home.

The question is WHY is POR the only moderate with Trundle beds. The rooms at CBR are a bit bigger and could certainly handle a trundle bed.

We love the whole Epcot area and would have loved to stay there before. Unfortunately the price put it out of reach. With the new mod pricing (higher on weekends), it's actually cheaper with the teacher discount to stay at S/D. The AAA rate is really close to the teacher rate and there is a special right now. Haven't stayed there yet, but have only read great reviews. The square footage of the room is larger at S/D. Combine the size, the price, ability to walk to DHS and E, the Boardwalk right there, we figured we'd give it a try. Loved POR, but after the price increase it really made us think twice about it this trip. Even if they come out with a great special for the time we are going, we won't change. We are way too excited about S/D. There is a S/D thread going with some great information and recent reviews. The negative you'll hear most is "It doesn't have that Disney feel." I don't know if we'll miss it, but I think all the positives are going to outweigh the negative. Good luck with your decision.

:goodvibes

We are a family of 5 also and since the 2nd year we have had to stay at POR. We loved ASM the first year and the kids loved the theme too. Since having no choice but to switch due to the price difference with 2 rooms at ASM, we love POR. We just returned and it was like coming home again. We can't afford a deluxe and that will only come when the kids are older and just DH and I return:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I don't mind it and never think about the other resort we can't go to. I choose to have 3 kids and deal with it everytime we reserve a hotel room anywhere. I might pay a little extra due to having to have a cot brought in but I wouldn't give any of them up.:wizard:

Well doesn't everyone plan their family around Disney's hotel setup? :rotfl:

You might consider a cabin in Fort Wilderness. Plenty of space for everyone to sleep, plus a kitchen and living room. Also a picnic table outside with a grill. :)

Usually more than a mod, but less than a deluxe. And you might save $ eating in! (They'll do the dishes, too.)

We are a family of 5 too. You can't go by my signature because I often go with just 1 child at a time (staying at values). When the kids were really little and discounts were higher we stayed at the Poly. I just can't justify that price anymore now that all the kids are big enough to walk onto the buses-they are now 9,7, & 5. Last year we stayed at POR and I honestly wasn't that crazy about it. If they offered prefered rooms close to the food court I would stay there again but your room requests are just requests and you can be a very long walk from the food court. This summer we are trying ASMu family suites.

I brought my DS in Jan for his 7th birthday and could have booked a deluxe at 30% off with bounceback but that was still nearly $100 more than the AAA discount I have on the family suite. I am so excited to try them for the first time!

Maybe by the time you go there will be even more suites available.

Unfortunately, fire laws aren't really about how the size of the room you are staying in. It's more about the width of the corridors, the number of people trying to exit down the stairs and the number of stairs. Evidently, POR has some buildings that can accomodate more people to suit the fire laws.

Yep you sre right. As some one who is a designer and works for an architecture firm I can assume that overall occupany divided by the factors above (there are formulas for these sort of things) is what would allow certain resorts to be able to sleep 5. I am assuming that some how POR may sleep less people overall than CBR in the relative footprint so allowing higher occupancy...does this make sense/ It is the same reason certain deluxes can sleep five. Huge resorts, but less guests having to exit.

Ding!

I actually asked this question during one of our stays at POR and was told something very similar. I was actually amazed as to how much thought goes into safety planning at WDW. Still, having stayed in Magnolia Bend section, I can't see how this is a fire hazard as the entrance/exit to all rooms are from the outside. :confused3
