Is this true??

Ding!

I actually asked this question during one of our stays at POR and was told something very similar. I was actually amazed as to how much thought goes into safety planning at WDW. Still, having stayed in Magnolia Bend section, I can't see how this is a fire hazard as the entrance/exit to all rooms are from the outside. :confused3

If the building is on fire, you need to get away from the building. Just being outside the room still doesn't provide you much safety. Now if you don't mind jumping over the side of the railing from the second floor..... What's a broken leg or two?

Our family of 5 stayed at POR last year and we LOVED it! There is another option though that costs a little more...there is a junior suite at Coronado Springs that sleeps 6!

I think it comes out to more than two standard rooms though..but it'll keep you all together!

Think of fire drills when you were in school. It was more than just exiting the building; everyone had to be a certain distance from the building before the All Clear was sounded.

Well doesn't everyone plan their family around Disney's hotel setup? :rotfl:

You joke but I am thinking about just that (Just kidding!), but with four kids and an offer of a fifth I am thinking about ticket prices and how would this work. (After adding the last three our vacation prices have soared!) I am also considering other far more important issues - why can't these decisions be easier!

By the way, all of you should consider buying into DVC - it will really save you money in the future and make your trips much more enjoyable when you have all of the space that a one or two bedroom villa offer.

Or rent points and stay in a DVC villa; it's much cheaper than you think. They are great!

Hi. We too are a family of 5. We have stayed at CR, S/D as well as POR. We loved CR. We stayed at POR and thought it was okay. Our group of 3 families is definitely in the minority from people on these boards. I would rather stay at CBR anytime. But, we did love the S/D and got a great price for it. They upgraded us to a balcony with Epcot view...which was incredible. The only downside to S/D for us is...no food plan and no magic express. But there are lots of great perks to staying there. My kids brought their report cards and got free ice cream for good grades too. We loved being close to Epcot and DHS. The boardwalk is a blast at night as well. Good luck picking.

We were there in October, and it took me forever to figure out my way around. Getting to the ground level, from the upper level, without using the elevator, took a while. I can totally see how that would not be a good place to have more bodies in the rooms.

With so many families having this problem, why would Disney have built POP, WL, and AKL to accomodate only four guests? (I believe that they are the most recently built resorts) We are only a family of four, but growing up, I was in a family of five. Our family would have had the same problem. I think that Disney should at least have rooms that would accomodate 5 guests without having to upgrade to a suite. Maybe will need to start writing them and requesting that any future resorts planned should accomodate a family of five. They'd have it booked before it opened!!

Because the standard world-wide for room capacity is 4. You may think that 5 should be the standard, but some people might think 6 should be. The cut off has to be somewhere, and Disney has chosen what is most common. Four to a room for most resorts.

There are already quite a few options for families of 5, but none of them will be as cheap as an All-Star room. And they really shouldn't be. More people in each room does have consequences for the rest of the resort. They are not just in the room taking up space, they use water, electric, bedding, not to mention space at the pool and restaurants and busses. More people cost more money to house, and Disney has to take that into consideration as well.

Don't forget too that Disney just recently opened the All-Star Suites. They cost just a little more than 2 All-Star rooms, plus you get a fridge and 2 bathrooms. We are going to stay in one for the first time this May, and I can hardly wait!

We are a family of 5 also. Unfortunatly my youngest is much to old for a pack and play, its been many years since we did that. Instead we rent points from a dvc member. We usually stay at OKW in a 2 bedroom and it ends up being cheeper than staying at a deluxe at rack rates and we have alot more room to move around. you could stay in a 1 bedroom there or AKL standard view for about 210 points for 7 nights at $10 or $11 per point. I makes it quite reasonable. Remember though you are renting from a person and not disney. We have done this a couple of times and will do it again.

We would like to try this, I guess I just worry about IF there was a problem. But you contacted a DVC member and went directly through them right?

I am a DVC member since 1999. If you decide to rent from a member, go to the DVC boards rent/trade. Just a suggestion would be to rent from someone who has been a member of this board for more than 1 year and has many posts. Most of the DVC members are great and want to help any way they can. We are stricter as far as cancellations are concerned because we can loose our points if cancelled too late. Also, we can only book 11-7 months out. So I would post what you want to rent that far in advance. Of course, christmas, easter break and other special times of year go fast. Just browse the dvc boards and you will get many questions answered. Hope this helped you some.

We do/did. When DH & I were talking about how many children to have we always said 'two' because than we can stay at any of the resorts and nobody has to sit alone on a ride (unless the seat is specifically designed for one). Some people use "Natural Family Planning", we use "Disney Family Planning". ;)
