We are going on our second Disney holiday in 50 days time (1 week in St Petes and 2 in Orlando). We now have a problem.

DH & I have a few days holiday left so we thought we would go away in January for 2 weeks staying on site (which we would never normally do but Virgin are offering fee child places so its a good price), but we are now having reservations. We are planning our main trip to Disney to be in May next year and we were wondering if we go in Jan will it be overkill. I know you can never have too much Disney but I am really unsure what to do.

We are annual passholders so the tickets are not a problem. DH thinks that we will be sitting by the pool for a few days but in the middle of Jan I dont even know what the weather is like.

We are planning to have a break and not go to Disney in 2007 (roll on 2008).

Is going to Disney 3 times (each of 2 weeks) overkill in the space 1 year.

PLEASE HELP......

To be honest it does sound a bit much and it would be a shame if you got bored of it! January weather is still nice and you would be able to sit by the pool, maybe if you also planned to do other things outside of Disney like Universal, Seaworld etc it wouldnt feel like Disney overload??

Definitely not no.
We are going twice this year March and August and despite this being our 12th trip are looking forward to it as much as ever.

The only thing I would say is if you can vary your holiday, I know you are staying by the beach for a week, then this makes the holiday seem fresher.

January I think will be quite cool, especially in the evenings. It was cold enough in March in the mornings so how much "sitting by the pool" you will do I don't know.

Sorrry I should have added that for our trip this year we will be staying offsite (with friends) and doing all the other parks like Universal, Sea World, Kennedy, Busch and even Gatorland. We would only really be spendng 1 day in each of the parks this year (except for MNSSHP). In May next year we will again be staying offsite and will be visiting Universal, Busch etc (maybe not so much Kennedy, Gatorland or Seaworld).

Also for a Jan trip next year we would not be renting a car and for the days we decide to venture out of Disney we would take a taxi (they cannot be that expensive to Universal and Premium outlets - if anybody has any idea on the cost of these taxis, please let me know)

Thanks again.

Sorry can not advise regarding Taxi's , however, my earlier reply refers your holidays appear very varied and different.
Hence going twice will not be a problem, the more the merrier.

Well if you are staying offsite the other times and not doing too much Disney then I dont think it would be a problem. Staying onsite is really great and will give you more time to focus on just Disney instead of Universal etc.

I'm sure you'll be fine going three times as each time will be very different, however, January can be downright cold, so you may not get in the pool muchless sit beside it. Don't forget, they can, and do, have frost in Orlando in the winter.

Go yes, but don't expect much in the way of good weather, then if you do get some warm days you can look on them as a bonus.

If i had a chance to go to Disney twice a year never mind 3 times i would be there. Go and have a great time, I don't think you can ever get bored of Disney.

All I will say, is we are having our second trip within the space of 10 months soon and to be honest, I really cant get that excited about it. Even though we have booked quite a deluxe trip (3 weeks onsite at 2 deluxes (1 wk concierge) upgrade to PE on the way home, no expense spared on tours, meals and trips etc) Im finding that as we were only there at Christmas, I havent had enough time for the magic to build up again.

Its the flight that kills it for me. I could never do 3 flights to Orlando in one year, but I know plenty that could!!!

Its a very personal thing - If you think you will enjoy 3 trips then GO FOR IT! If you think you would be wasting money by doing them, then it seems silly to do it...save and go again in 2007!!

It will only be 4 months since our last holiday when we go in September.. :sunny: Dh is more excited about this visit than I am although I am sure as it gets nearer that will change. My worry is that when we get there it won't be as good as we thought it was. :confused3 I suppose you can do too much Disney I am not sure I will let you know when I get back. :goodvibes

Thanks for all your help. I am sitting down with DH to have a discussion on what we are going to do tonight. Fingers (and everything else crossed) that he will come round to the idea. Although I must admit a few people are saying that its going to be cold. Not really sure if I want to experience WDW in the cold (I could go to Euro Disney for that).

I have thought about asking DD5 what she thinks but I know her anser already.

To sum up its either 2 weeks at ASM (without a car) in Jan or nothing really as we can think of nowhere else to go where we are going to have nice weather (Europe is def out) and I can only go somewhere special as we are taking our DD out of school (by the way her teacher was really cool about it and said that it is good for them to have different experiences whilst they are young - wish he was my teacher when I was a school)

Again thanks for your help.
Lou

Good luck. I would say go for it, the weather's good and maybe you can try and do all the stuff you never normally do as you're whizzing round the parks. Go Mini golfing, visit the Tri-circle ranch, go round the resorts, take a horseback ride, kick back & relax!

Taxi to Premium Outlets is about $10. You can get taxi's at DTD. Also there are buses from the TTC.

Why not go to California? You would have the heat and the Disney/Universal options. I loved L.A. Tricky without a car, but we stayed minutes from Disneyland. Then took coaches to other theme parks. We had a wonderful time.

Me and my brother went in late Jan, early Feb a few years ago. Weather was great. Don't remember any cold days. One day was too hot, actually. Nights are cooler, but would not call it cold.

A few years ago me and wife went to Orlando for one week (bad idea, but only cost £630 for us both) and did nothing but Disney. We got a bit fed up with it doing the parks day in, day out by the end of the trip.

LA is not something we have thought about given the flight time. Its probably better to go when DD is older so that we could incorporate Las Vegas into the trip as well.

Thanks for the idea though.

Flight time can only be an extra hour (I still can't work out why) depending on the airline.

I understand the Vegas idea. We also planned to do Vegas but could not fit it into the two weeks!

Hope you've managed to sort yourselves out.

Whilst I understand you have your annual passes, why not consider doing "other" things whilst you're out there - you'll be doing all the Disney/Universal things on your other trips.

Yes, like many people have said, the weather can be cold (we have friends in West Palm Beach and it's funny hearing them moaning about the cold), it's still not as cold as over here. But, personally, this is why we don't go at that time, we much prefer it to be hot. If it ain't hot, it's not Florida in our house :sunny: (although I may rue my words when we go in 9 days time ;) :bitelip: ).

We actually DID get all parked out, hence we didn't go to Florida last year. We so enjoyed our year off doing other things. But we really are all looking forward to our trip now, but we're more fans of Universal than Disney :rolleyes1

Generally the flight to the West Coast is around 11 1/2 to 12 hours whereas the flight to Orlando is about 9 hours and the reason it is so short is because of the route - over the Pole - well north anyway!!
