Is this the usual cost for deluxe now?

We are thinking of adding a night and a couple of days in Universal to our Orlando vacation. We will be going at the end of June/beginning of July. Due to this being a very busy time, we want to stay at a deluxe for the express pass. My question is about the cost of the least expensive deluxe, Royal Pacific is $674 for one night. I am in sticker shock as this is double what I have paid in the past. It was quite a few years ago, but this is double what I believe I paid then. I am wondering if this is the average cost for a deluxe at Universal Resorts now? Should we skip it this time and try to do Universal at another time of year? Thanks in advance for any insight anyone has.

Yikes. Time of year? Weekend date? i am going in May and see RPR 2 Q water view for $409 for a weeknight.

UO resort prices have gone up a lot in the last 3 months. We always go during busy times because of school, and typically paid around $300 per room with APH rates (at 40-45% off). Now the rooms are $500-750, with much fewer APH rooms.

Once our APs expire, we'll likely not renew...

I booked last year in June (2021) for this year in June (2022) and am paying $375 average per night at RPR with a savvy traveler rate. Those same dates are $575 a night now.

If you want to get reasonable prices on Universal premier resorts, book way ahead. Universal knows that there's pent-up demand for travel and many people are coming over from Disney based on Genie+ poor reviews, no Magical Express, and dwindling on-site benefits (myself included).

I paid $204 at Royal Pacific for my February trip. I’m heading back in early May and the least expensive Premier was the Hard Rock at $450 +. I ended up booking Aventura ($135) and, unless the Premier prices go down a lot, I’ll be adding Unlimited Express ($120).

We have a family of 4 so the premier resort will always be cheaper than Unlimited Express x 4 people plus room costs, unfortunately.

But if less than a family, it definitely pays to price out a less expensive room and adding Unlimited Express separately!

You have the 4th of July holiday so that’s going to jack up the prices. Could you add your Universal days to front of your trip to Disney?

This is a weeknight, June 22 is the date I was looking at. 2 queens, standard room. I also looked at the 30th, same price.

I would have totally added express pass separately and gone for a less expensive resort, but there are 4 of us and it adds up fast.

Thanks for all your replies. I think we are going to hold off on Universal for this one. The cost just does not make sense.

I found 599 for std 2 Queen room at RP for that date. If you were going further out there maybe a Be a savvy traveler rate. I booked a week in September for RP for around 230 a night but I did last November

I was first looking at June 22, then June 30. Just 1 night and the prices are still that high. I was trying to avoid the 4th at Disney. We have been there for the 4th before. But, the prices at Disney are actually quite a bit lower over the 4th week, which I did think was a bit odd. We did decide to skip Universal this time, though. I have learned to book way ahead next time!

It really depends. I’m assuming that’s the seasonal rate. Is anyone an AP holder? You can’t get savvy traveler for one night, but you might find an AP rate. For example, the best AP rate I found during our Spring Break was for RPR $392 average per night.

Nice, I think my average is around $250 for RPR in September and I booked last August. Now I’m going to have to look again what it actually is. I know it’s about $100 more a night now.

I don’t think AP rates are out for anything past early April.

OP: What about doing SeaWorld instead Universal?

AP rates (at least some) have been released through the week of May 30 (Memorial Day). About 2 weeks ago, I was able to snag one night at the AP rate of $324 at PFB, but I had to pay full price club level for the other nights. All of the suites are showing the AP rates right now and that is basically all that is left at the premier hotels that week. The availability at all 3 premiers that week has disappeared over the past two weeks.
