We received our BCV papers last week...... almost ready to sign.... and I see a resale on the board that seems to fit us better at BWI - more points, better use year (I will have to sell this year's points). Cost would be a few thousand less but I feel so guilty backing out.......:( Am I crazy to do this?

Do what is best for YOU! Enjoy your membership with no regrets.

Will you regret it and always question yourself if you do purchase BCV, knowing that you had the chance to buy BWV instead? Purchase what works for you and what you'll be happy with in the long run!

Buy where you think you will want to stay most often! If that's BWV, then go for the resale. If it's BCV, then sign the papers. Whatever you finally decide, resolve NOT to second guess yourself!

P.S. You will not be the first (or last) person to back out of a DVC purchase, so don't worry about what the guide or anyone else may think. It's your money and your decision!

I have been able to "bargain" with DVC on the price of points when I showed them a cheaper choice that was available to me. Remember, everything is negotiable. While Disney has convinced most people that the price they sell points at is fixed, it just isn't so. No price is ever fixed!

why anyone would buy from DVC direct. I mean, the resales are cheaper and it's not like you are getting something used or for any shorter a time period than you would get from DVC. We were able to buy 50 more points for $1000 more than it would've cost us direct via a re-sale.

Oh, I suppose there could be a couple of reasons...

1 - you want BCV hafta have it, nothing else will do...
2 - you want to close ASAP (w/o going through the ROFR ordeal)

Other than that? Personally, I'd rather save the bucks... and after hearing what people are saying about BCV, I'm not sure I'd want that as my home...

tvwalsh,
Can you tell us how you were able to bargain with DVC, or is it a secret?

Although my home resort is BCV, and I love it, I would tell you to definately go with what makes you feel the best. If Boardwalk is where you want to be most often....go with Boardwalk. You can always go to BCV, if you want, using your Boardwalk points. :D

Also, DVC has new Boardwalk points in its inventory due to a space conversion. Call them, tell them the deal being offered on resale and see if they can match it. Never hurts to try. :smooth:

I don't think you're crazy at all. If it's cheaper and everything else is going for you, why buy something else that isn't? I know when we got our package we waited until the last possible moment to sign just in case something else came in the resale market that we wanted.

You are the first person here to report being able to do this. I would love to hear how you did it.

Never feel bad - its your money and you decide what and where to buy! Whatever you decide...

CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME HOME!!!!!

tvwalsh,

As others have asked How do/did you bargain with Disney to get lower DVC purchase? I truly don't beleive it can be done - But would be fascinated to here your story on the topic.

As many others have stated here, you need to do what is best for you. Do not feel bad about it, someone will buy those points from DVC.

Go for it! We did a BWV resale not too long ago b/c that is where we wanted to call home!! It was cheaper and now we have 11 month access to "standard view" points at BWV which also makes for a longer or more often trip! Nice!

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your input! As far as where our home resort, we're not too concerned as we haven't seen any of them. At first we thought Beach Club would be great and as I've said we received the contract and have even made reservations for next spring but haven't sent back any papers or payment yet (other than the original $500).

I feel guilty as our guide was great and really helped us. However, we are talking a difference of several thousand dollars if I am able to sell the points I cannot use......!

I'm also nervous about selling the points as we cannot use the banked points for the year.... (Also, concerned Disney will buy it back and then we'll be back at square one).

Thanks again everyone.... ultimately we know it is our decision but the input we've received on this board is invaluable! Keep it coming! :D

As CarolMN said, you really should buy where you want to stay the most.

Instead of thinking about buying from Disney or resale, maybe your questions should be about what kind of place each one is? I am a firm believer that you would be happier paying more to Disney and staying at your favorite place than you would by saving some money and wishing you had bought elsewhere for the next 39 years!

To me, the choice between BWV and BCV might hinge on children and their ages. SAB is such a huge difference to so many people. One poster summed it up by saying that SAB would be their own convenient water park for many years with their toddlers!!

Good luck!

If someone had not backed out of a VWL purchase I would not have gotten my add-on there:teeth: You have to live with your purchase, not anyone else.

I say go for the BWV!! We bought there via resale (closed in Jan.), and we couldn't be happier! We've had 2 lousy stays at the BCV, so I might be biased, too...I just LOVE the BWV! Let us know what you decide to do :)

Also, the 11 month window is GREAT when it comes to getting the standard rooms at BWV during low-points seasons:D We've yet to have a problem booking less than 7 months out elsewhere, but it could be tough to get the standard studio at the BWV less than 11 months out. That was definitely a factor in where we decided to buy our "home" resort.

Don't feel guilty - it's your money.
Good luck!

Was this something recent? I've heard of deals in the past (like crediting your resort stay toward the purchase) but nothing like that has been reported recently. I've not heard of any resale price matching by DVC.

WDWorld2003,

Under their ROFR you can not break up a contract by selling off unwanted points. also why anyone would want BWV is beyond me anyway
