Is this tacky?

Just got back and saw a few girls in those style nightgowns - could see through them in daylight, and the tops stretch quite a bit and you could see right down to the waist on some of them. I was all for the OP's idea until I saw the nightgowns in person. They definitely look like pjs, and are very skimpy in the sunlight.

And of course the CMs said they looked pretty - not meaning to be harsh, but it's the CM's job to tell all the little girls at WDW that they look pretty, call them princess, etc. Makes the parents want to repeat the event on a future trip. Saw that/heard that occur all day, every day on our trip. I love how it makes the little girls light up.

It's interesting how many more kids are dressing up lately for the meals and in the parks. I guess it's the whole BB thing in part. I'm not a big fan because so many of them are skimpy or see through and/or uncomfy plus I see so many girls in those awful plastic heels that must be killing their feet. My daughter is 10 now and isn't into mature stuff yet but wouldn't dress up either except MNSSHP. She used to dress up a bit for CRT like a princess top and tiara and was happy and comfy. Still got plenty of attention being a more natural style princess too ;) As long as they are appropriately covered especially with the bright FL sun and feel comfy I'm not bothered by others choices though I always do wince on the plastic shoes.....

Have to say we just got back and I saw lots and lots of little ones in those outfits which are apparently nightgowns that I wouldn't have known they were nightgowns until I found out about it on this website and this thread. All the kids must have had on shorts and tanks under them because we couldn't see thru them and this was bright August sunshine. They all looked cute! As a matter of fact, we saw very few little girls in the big poofy get ups - most all of the ones we saw looked just like these nightgowns - it seemed more appropriate due to the hot weather, imo.:goodvibes

This actually gave me a great idea for my DD who will be 2 when we go in December. She's too young for me to spend the big $$$ on the dresses, but these nightgowns are cute enough with a tank top & shorts underneath!

Dd wore one of these nightgowns (in pink) when we went to CRT for dinner. She felt like a princess and I totally felt like it was a great move on my part to get it. I felt so bad for these little girls in scratchy crinoline in the crazy August heat. My dd was very comfortable (which is why I chose that one) and I only spent $7 on it! You could not see through it at all and all that mattered to me was that she felt great about herself. I packed a bunch of makeup and nail polish from the dollar store and we had our own BBB in the hotel room. Great mother-daughter memory and there is nothing tacky about that!

It completely looks like a nightgown, so I would say no. Pajamas are not appropriate for dining out.

If you did decide to put them in the nightgowns for dinner, maybe you could get a full slip to go underneath just in case there is a see-through issue?

I saw these in the parks for sale and thought that they don't look at all like a nightgown. Who wears layers and layers to bed? Would be very uncomfortable for someone that tosses and turns. Anyways, if they are like the link you provided - they are perfect and alot more comfortable.:thumbsup2

OP here again. Tonight was the princess/stepsister dinner, and yes, my DDs both wore their nightgowns/gowns. They looked adorable, and didn't want to change out of them after the meal. Several castmembers told them how pretty they looked, and they felt special, I think. Glad we went for it! We saw many girls there who had been BBB'd, and they did not look very comfortable, and the dresses did not look markedly different, either.

The easy part? Not having to change them when we got home into PJs! Tucked 'em in in their royal gowns. I'll try to post pics tomorrow. princess:

Perfect!

Glad the OP had a great time and no problems with the gowns. :thumbsup2

My biggest worry would be all the other diners and park guests that do know your children are wearing a nightgown. I'm sure many of them did. I'd spend the whole time worrying that someone would say something mean to my child over it. People are still nasty, even at WDW. It doesn't seem worth it. I saw a little girl at MK wearing that very Ariel gown once and did wonder why her mother let her run around in a nightgown. I have boys, so we're not into that kind of thing, but it did really strike me as being something for bed, not for being in public. I made a point to tell her how gorgeous she was despite the thought. Actually, maybe I did it because of my worry of what someone else might say later! The CMs are constantly telling the little princesses how beautiful they are, no matter what they have on. There's no telling what they were really thinking, but I'm glad they made it special. :goodvibes
