Is this tacky?

My DDs are 6 and 10. We are flying this time around and are having to pack super light, so we couldn't bring along their princess costumes. They both got some very pretty princess nightgowns for Christmas (called "flutter gowns" from Disney shopping). Would it be tacky if they wore these to the 1900 Park Fare "Happily Ever After Dinner?" One is Snow white, one is a yellow Tiana nightgown. They are both tall for their age and I'm afraid this won't fly w/ kids this old....

Everyone's a kid at Disney.

If they are cool with it, as a parent, I'd be cool with it. And I wouldn't care what other people around thought. It's my vacation - not theirs.

If it's like the nightgowns my DD has from the Disney store - thin cotton, little cap sleeves with a ruffle and a ruffle at the bottom - I would say no way. They look like exactly what they are, nightgowns and I wouldn't let my DD outside in one.

Depends if they look like costumes but happen to be nightgowns then I would see no problem.

If they truly look like nightgowns I think it would be out of place to wear obvious sleepware to a restaurant.

Nope. These have a stretchy velvet bodice, with kind of silky material covered w/ a layer of floaty tulle, but softer than tulle. They don't necessarily look like PJs.

Another option if the nightgowns will not work is to go with some tiaras. Nothing makes a girl feel more like a princess than wearing a crown and they pack easy.

You could get one of the disney plastic ones for your 6 year old since it may hit the floor a few times. But then get one of sparkly rhinestone ones from your local jewelry store for your 10 year old. It will make her feel more mature and something special she can keep for those dances that start coming up as she enters her teen years.

Good luck!

Since you asked I will give my opinion.

I know kids can be kids, but really....no, a nightgown is to wear for bed not dining in.

OP I am not directing this at you in any way or trying to be rude, negative, etc. BUT, in my experience, if you have to ask if something would be considered tacky it usually is.

I think if it's like the one you linked to, it would be fine. (Does your 10 year old really want to wear a princess gown though? I don't usually see girls that old dressed up.)

I say a princess t-shirt and a cute skirt that can be worn later in the week or the next day. The tiara is also a good idea. No way would my DD10 wear the nightgown to a restaurant. Even one as cute as the one you linked to.

She's the one who wants to! I thought that telling her we could'nt bring her princess dress along would suffice, but then she grabbed the Snow white nightgown. I should note that she's a special needs child w/ developmental delays, so she's not a typical 10 yo in that respect. Love her just the same, more if it's possible....

I think your daughters sound absolutely sweet. Let them wear these...they are cute and don't really look like night gowns! Have fun!!!:cutie:

Just let them both wear them and I really don't think the 10 yr old is too old!! My daughter wore a tiara in 2000 when she was 22 every day before all the princess BBB etc!!! Everyone's a kid in WDW!

Yes- they look like dresses- it is fine to wear to dinner!!!
They are kids, want to dress like a princesses and that night'gown' is cute. They look like little party dresses. The other ones on the link look like pjs- the belle gown has rosettes for goodness sake! that looks more like a costume than a nightgown.
Its not like they look like PJs- if this will make them happy- I would be fine if it was my daughter!
There might be people who think that wearing a costume to dinner isnt proper. Cant please everyone!

Awwww..... those nightgowns are beautiful! I will never get to experience that... I only have a son!

Enjoy EVERY SINGLE MOMENT that they want to be little girls and definitely let them wear them. If there is any indication that they're too see-through in any part, just let them wear shorts and a tank under them. A true princess can wear rags, a nightgown, t-sihrt and jeans or a ballgown! No matter what, they are still princesses!princess:

Have a magical time!:wizard:

I think if the girls are comfortable in them, then let them enjoy being princesses. There is a lot of variation in what girls consider babyish from ages 10-12. I know many 10 year olds who still dress up, mine certainly would have at that age if we had gone to Disney that year.
