Is this tacky?

My 10 year old DD wouldn't be caught dead in a nightgown in a restaurant. Of course shes' 5'3", 125 lbs., and wears a 36B bra, so she'd look pretty ridiculous, IMO. If your 10 yo is anywhere near as developed as mine I'd say no way in heck.

When she was 6 she'd refuse to wear it if she knew it was a nightgown. Now, if she didn't know I might let her go in that one as it seems less flimsy than most nighties.

Those would be a no-go with my 6dd...but then again she really likes the glitter/sparkle/tulle of the regular costumes.

On the other hand I did see girls wearing those nightgowns at MK when we were there in late April - they are cooler and less itchy than the costume dresses.

It looks like a costume. :confused3

OP- I wouldn't worry about what others think. I used to think it was a big deal to go to the drive-in movies in my pajamas when I was a kid. No one died when people saw me and many other kids running around the drive-in playground at dusk in my footie pajamas. :lmao:

We have a ton of the Disney nightgowns like that and there is no way I would let my DD7 wear it out in public. :) They are way too thin and look like nightgowns. Most princess dresses won't take up much more room than the gowns. :) Put the dress in a ziploc and then squeeze the air out -- packs up flat!

I think not only is it ok, I think it is a good idea. So many of the princess dresses are just uncomfortable and over the top. I love the nightgowns like the one you are talking about because they are simple and seem much more comfortable, especially if you are going in the heat. I think some of the over glittered, over puffy actual dresses I see in the parks are tackier than the nightgowns. Most don't even look like the actually princess dress.

I agree! Oh, and I think it's wonderful that your 10 year old wants to dress up. Kids grow up too fast today anyway!

My DDs are 6 and 10. We are flying this time around and are having to pack super light, so we couldn't bring along their princess costumes. They both got some very pretty princess nightgowns for Christmas (called "flutter gowns" from Disney shopping). Would it be tacky if they wore these to the 1900 Park Fare "Happily Ever After Dinner?" One is Snow white, one is a yellow Tiana nightgown. They are both tall for their age and I'm afraid this won't fly w/ kids this old....

If your DD were 2 and 4, I'd say go for it. A tall 10yo - nope. BUT, you could put their real princess dresses in a flat rate priority mail box and ship it to your resort for not that much $. You could even prepay postage and fold a second box in the package to ship it back.

I say go for it. They really do not look that bad. Heck, my niece went to school one time with camouflage capris and cowboys boots lol. It was hysterical, but she insisted and cried. Nothing hurt. Shiloh Pitt goes swimming in boys swimming trunks. I say live and let live. Hope your girls feel incredibly special and have a wonderful time!

We have the Ariel one that you linked to and my 5 yo will be wearing it (happily! :))for our trip next month. We have a few "real" gowns from the parks from trips past and my daughter hates how scratchy and itchy they are. She ends up wearing them for 20 minutes and asking to take them off.

I really don't see the big deal. The nightgowns (at least the ones up on the Disney Store site right now) are in no way see through and really just look like a kids play dress. Honestly, I can't imagine actually sleeping in one, there are layers and layers of chiffon on the skirt.

If your daughters have no problem with it, I'd say go for it! Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

I would go with a pretty sundress and a tiara. My ds is 6, and developmentally delayed, and he's super creative, so sometimes we have to step in and say I like that idea, but what about this idea!? You can get beautiful tiaras at claire's boutique( found at a lot of malls) or evn your local craft store in the wedding dept. I know you will all have a great time no matter what you choose to do!

I say go for it. For one thing, they look perfectly fine and, from the picture, don't look like a nightgown to me. Secondly, I'm a big believer in allowing children to develop their own sense of style, as long as it's not obscene (which your suggestion is not) or inappropriate (again, your suggestion is not, in my opinion). My DD5 has already put together some fascinating outfits already during her life, but they fit her personality well and it's fun to see her develop her sense of style. She veers wildly towards the colorful, sparkly & heavily patterned, so at the very least we can keep track of her in a crowd, as she's the girl in the bright pink faux fur coat, ladybug Wellies, pink tutu over jeans with a pink glitter Hello Kitty shirt and a giant flower headband (that's a real outfit from a few days ago). :rotfl2:

Lastly, I'll say that if your DDs really want to wear their actual princess dresses, and you already own them and are not opposed to bringing them, you could possibly find a way to compress them enough to bring them, as well, such as through the space bags or through shipping them down in advance.

My DD6 wore that same nightgown in a Tinkerbell style on one of our recent trips. She brought it as a nightgown but decided she wanted to wear it to visit Tink. No one noticed it was a nightgown. Several CMs told her how pretty her dress was and some other moms asked me where we had found that great dress since it was so light weight and cute.

I say let them wear the nightgowns. NO one will know the difference anyway.

This thread is too funny because I was about to order one of these with the purpose of having my dd (5)wear it for MNSSHP. I HATE the regular princess dresses. They are awful for little girls to wear. They are scratchy and itchy to the point where my dd ends up with scratches all over her and is completely miserable. Guess what? No one would know that these are night gowns unless you told them. They are wonderfully cute,.nice and cool, multifunctional, and perfect for such a trip. :) If your dd 10 is like mine was, she'll look just fine. That dd is now 12 and is still only about 4'7" and 60 lbs.

Generally I would say to leave the nightgown for bedtime. If they want to wear them and you are comfortable with them wearing a nightgown to dinner, then as their mother, that is your choice. :)

My 6 yo wouldn't wear it.

Princess gowns take up less room than you think. Last trip we took 5 costumes and still had plenty of room for all DD's clothes and shoes.

Many people are familar with these (I checked the picture) and know these are disney nightgowns, BUT no one would say anything to you. I wouldn't do it. Besides do you want to look back at your photos and know you dressed your kids up in pjs for a nice meal at 1900 park fare. BUT ultimately it IS your choice. Just my opinion since you asked. I think a tiara for each girl would be a wonderful comprimise if luggage space is an issue. BTW I looked at the other link on here to Disneyshopping....they look like nightgowns..cute BUT I stand by my original statement in this post.
