i think your nuts! get off ebay and buy some furniture! lolMnementh said:You've got a point there. I moved into an apartment almost 3 months ago and I still haven't bought a couch and my car battery is almost dead, but I'm sitting on Ebay looking for VMK cards instead.![]()
Arfy said:that is pretty rare but i think that is kind of a crazy price to pay for a virtual game

$900. for a treasure chest on a game? OH BOY~ I think I have finally seen it all!
Actually, this is an investment (if it's the right person). That piece of cardboard they can turn around after a short time and make a huge profit off of it.LittleDragonErin said:You mean sort of like why people will pay $900 for a piece of cardboard with a picture of some famous baseball player that died 20 years ago?

There will always be an interest in baseball cards. Even if everyone stopped playing the game tomorrow. Cards are tangible items.
VMK on the other hand......Could shut down tomorrow and no one will have anything tangible to show for the money they spent.I can understand a few dollars, but hundreds? Just not my cup of tea.
I still say anyone paying that kind of money for a virtual item is cuckoo!![]()
Ummm...She said a guy that was dead for 20 years....That would generally be an investment. Specifically since I did say If it's the right person. Especially if it was an authentic signed card by someone such as Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig. I said nothing about a card less than 2 years old.mtlhddoc2 said:Baseball cards are not really an investment, not as much as you might think. The retail sales price of a baseball card, ie: what it sells for on ebay, is the top price, baseball cards, and almost all sports related cards, typically experience a significant drop, upwards of 75% within 2 years. If anyone considers baseball cards an investment, they are seriously wrong. The only "money" to be made is through "speculation" which is to say, if you dont flip it for more than you paid for it within 6 months, you will loose money. It is like buying a car as an investment... as soon as you drive it off the lot, you lost 20%. Granted, there are those select few cards which will appreciate, but they are few and far between, maybe one of those type cards for every 100,000 collectors.

And if it was 2 years old, then a person who does collect cards would (should) know that they are paying too much (at $900) for that card. Almost all collectibles lose much of their value in the first few years. Anyone who is in collectibles and actually does their research would know this.
Anyone doing any kind of investing should always do thorough research before spending their money. And, as always, it really doesn't matter what the value is if no one is willing to pay it. And that is the bottom line.
Mnementh said:Well, I was looking to buy something or else i wouldn't have been looking on there at all. But I wasn't looking for anything like that. Just cards. But I keep getting outbid. There's no way I'm paying the outrageous prices some people are bidding for this stuff.
