You've got a point there. I moved into an apartment almost 3 months ago and I still haven't bought a couch and my car battery is almost dead, but I'm sitting on Ebay looking for VMK cards instead. :sad2:
i think your nuts! get off ebay and buy some furniture! lol

thats just stupid to pay that much my friend in real life got all three princess dresses and a crown for 5:00 dollors i dont mind stuff being sold like that but
900 dolors buy it now is just stupid

yea, i paid like 8 bucks for 50th quest and more including cards, i dont mind spending that much, if your selling that for 900 dollars, something is DEFINATELY wrong with u.

Wow. Words cannot describe my shock. :sad2: That is WAAYYYY too much money.

I think that yellow chest is so rare that VMK should have no problem figuring out who has it if they really wanted to.
$900. for a treasure chest on a game? OH BOY~ I think I have finally seen it all!

You mean sort of like why people will pay $900 for a piece of cardboard with a picture of some famous baseball player that died 20 years ago?
Actually, this is an investment (if it's the right person). That piece of cardboard they can turn around after a short time and make a huge profit off of it.
There will always be an interest in baseball cards. Even if everyone stopped playing the game tomorrow. Cards are tangible items.

VMK on the other hand......Could shut down tomorrow and no one will have anything tangible to show for the money they spent. :confused3 I can understand a few dollars, but hundreds? Just not my cup of tea.

I still say anyone paying that kind of money for a virtual item is cuckoo!

Baseball cards are not really an investment, not as much as you might think. The retail sales price of a baseball card, ie: what it sells for on ebay, is the top price, baseball cards, and almost all sports related cards, typically experience a significant drop, upwards of 75% within 2 years. If anyone considers baseball cards an investment, they are seriously wrong. The only "money" to be made is through "speculation" which is to say, if you dont flip it for more than you paid for it within 6 months, you will loose money. It is like buying a car as an investment... as soon as you drive it off the lot, you lost 20%. Granted, there are those select few cards which will appreciate, but they are few and far between, maybe one of those type cards for every 100,000 collectors.

Looks like he is trying to raise money for his next trip to WDW. :rotfl:

I wouldn't pay 5 cents for it, but it's a free country - more power to him.
America is all about free trade, and capitalism.
If he gets someone to buy it for that much they are the fools not him.

Ummm...She said a guy that was dead for 20 years....That would generally be an investment. Specifically since I did say If it's the right person. Especially if it was an authentic signed card by someone such as Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig. I said nothing about a card less than 2 years old.
And if it was 2 years old, then a person who does collect cards would (should) know that they are paying too much (at $900) for that card. Almost all collectibles lose much of their value in the first few years. Anyone who is in collectibles and actually does their research would know this.
Anyone doing any kind of investing should always do thorough research before spending their money. And, as always, it really doesn't matter what the value is if no one is willing to pay it. And that is the bottom line.

Babe Ruth has been dead for over 20 years. In the past 5 years, they have printed over 200 different cards from 7 different companies. None of them is worth anything save 1. And when I say 1, I mean there was not one print run, but 1 actual card. It is a Babe Ruth Cut signature card, only 1 made. The packs that it was in sold for $100 each and the card is worth over $50,000. Of the cards of his that were from the original set, only 1 sells for more than it did 10 years ago, and frequently you can find Babe Ruth cards from 50 years ago for less than $30 - which is significantly lower than they were 10 years ago.

as to whether the person was paying too much or not does not really matter, what matters is that "too much" is a relative term. A $900 card might be worth $900 - but 2 years before it sold for $3000. From experience, and many years of card collecting, and 2 years currently running my own card-related store I can say, cards are NOT a good investment, whether it is a mint condition Babe Ruth or Rolly Fingers pack filler, they will ALWAYS decrease in value over time, and worse than that, the value of the dollar decreases so even if you sell the item for EXACTLY what you paid for it, you lost money. Items should appreciate on inflationary value as well.

There is only 1 real solid investment in this world, and that is real estate. everything else is destined to loose money.

I know of at least 5 people that I have met / been friends with at some point in vmk who have spent cash on ebay to get vmk items. For me, this is a free source of entertainment and not something I am willing to spend money on, but just like everything else in life, it's a matter of what someone is willing to do to get something.

I will work a trade through the boards or sit in a trade room. Others would rather spend cash. If you think you don't have at least one friend in the game who is buying on ebay, my guess is - you are mistaken.

Hmm...wow...maybe I should choose my examples more carefully. :confused3 Lol! Next time I'll use Disney Pins. :rotfl:

Well, I was looking to buy something or else i wouldn't have been looking on there at all. But I wasn't looking for anything like that. Just cards. But I keep getting outbid. There's no way I'm paying the outrageous prices some people are bidding for this stuff.

Which cards are you looking for? If I have extras, I will send them to you - free. :)

Send me a PM or post here, whichever.
