EMH morning at MK. Thinking about getting there for 8am Rope Drop and playing around at MK from 8-10ish, and then walking over to Chef Mickey's for a late breakfast at 10:30ish, then back to MK.

Is it REALLY that easy to do that, or is that going to take a huge chunk of time I don't want to spend? We're gonna need to eat anyway, and I don't really want to do anywhere else at MK. Our day would like something like this:

Staying at BCV
Leave BCV in time for 8:00 a.m. rope drop at MK
Tour MK from 8-10ish
Walk over to CR in time for 10:30ish breakfast at Chef Mickey's
Return to MK and tour MK until about 4:00
Leave MK for HDDR for 5-6:30 show

This just seems like a lot of wasted time. It it really close enough that I'm making a bigger deal of it than it actually is?

I'd skip chef Mickey's and have breakfast at Crystal Palace instead. The food is much better and the location is more convenient.

Since you are doing HDDR I would say skip Chef Mickey's to much back and forth.

Crystal Palace is a good alternative

Hi,
I wouldn't say it's a BIG deal to get over to Chef Mickeys. I think you mean walking to the monorail and hopping on that in order to get there... right? And yes, it does take time. Walking to the front of the park, getting on the monorail after a brief wait, hopefully, and then arriving at Chef Mickeys. You may also have to wait for a table, even with your ADR. The breakfast itself will probably take the longest amount of time. I guess it depends on what you want out of the experience. If your kids are into the characters, then it might be great! I wouldn't necessarily go for the food :)
And then of course you have to get back to MK. I would probably plan an hour and a half, to 2 hours total.

If it's characters you want, I would go to CP instead. It's right in the park, and you wouldn't spend as much time. If you're not into characters, I would skip both and grab something from the Main Street Bakery for breakfast!

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be GREAT!!:thumbsup2 You'll love HDDR!

I've also found that sometimes I'm hoping for a time I can't get. (Not saying you couldn't get the late breakfast) But you would have more time options with CP--even the early lunch (11:00)......

I always feel it's a lot of back and forth when we do CP sometime after entering, I see PP's points about going all the way back to the front. That takes longer than we think.

And I do think the OP can walk to Chef Mickey's......

Honestly, I could skip Chef Mickey's. My dd will be 15 and she *really* wants to do it for some strange reason. We'll also do Crystal Palace for dinner on our first night, so I don't want to do it again. ::sigh::

We did something similar, only we ate at Kona. So, MK for rope drop at 8 and left the park at 10 and took monorail to Poly. Ate and looked around and then got back to MK a couple hours later. We really just used the EMH time to ride a few key Fantasyland attractions we hadn't ridden on our first MK day and we met some of the characters in Town Square (? on Main Street by the Flag Pole). It was easy enough except that someone (ME) began to get cranky from not having anything to eat earlier so you may want a light snack earlier.

Then, yes, I'd say it's doable. You just might want to go further back in the park for EMH and work your way back forward. I think a two-hour break from the MK midday is always nice. I like going back refreshed.

You'll be fine.

very doable, and actually a good idea...I'd get the latest breakfast reservations they have. And agree 100% with the idea of going to farthest part of park first, and working your way back (also grab a set of fast passes at the earliest you can, and then should be able to get another set right before you leave park...use both sets when you return to the park after your break.)

As a mother of 4 grown kids (my baby girl :cutie: turned 21 this year.oldest turns 32 in Nov.) well, I have to put in the old mom's 2 cents worth: if your teen is willingly going on family vacation & has a request for a character meal...go for it, and enjoy every minute of it! And get pictures. These days will be gone in the blink of an eye. Better to do it now than get down the line 10 years from now & say "why didn't we just do it?":thumbsup2

We have similar plans in Nov. We only have one TS breakfast planned, so I booked a late breakfast (10:30am) at Ohana. We'll tour MK during EMH (opens at 8am), and then hop over to the Poly, then head back to the MK or back to the resort for a break. Then, tour in the late afternoon and evening. I think it'll be a nice break from the parks, the kids will get to see "funny!" characters, and we should *hopefully* have gotten quite a few rides under our belts during the EMH.

My children are much younger, though (DS-8, DS-7, DD-5). Also, it is late in our vacation (Day 6), so we may need some break time from the parks (however, I forsee us riding the monorail back over to MK for a little more fun, before an break later in the day!)

I say, if your daughter REALLY wants to go - go for it! You'll have as much fun there, goofing off with Mickey and gang, as you will in the MK!

Happy travels!

We've done that two years in a row--once went to O'hana and once to Chef Mickey's. Worked out great! We toured, got fastpasses on the way out, ate brunch and returned to MK! We then don't eat again (kids get a snack) until a (early for us) 6:00-ish dinner at the Plaza. I prefer to do it this way, as no-one in my family eats a big breakfast early, but then is starving later. This lets us "wake up" first, then we don't have to stop for lunch. In fact, by the time we get back to the park, most people are starting to pause for lunch and sometimes the ride lines are shorter. Also, if you grab a fastpass on the way out, you can usually get another one soon after you get back from brunch. You can ask for the check right away when you sit down if you want to get out fairly quickly.

FYI--you may want to take the monorail to CM, but then walk back. The Contemporary is one of the first stops from MK, but it makes the loop, so it takes longer to get back to MK if you take it after your breakfast.

Have a great trip!

It sounds like you aren't exactly excited about the idea of trekking over to Chef Mickey's, so I would go with that feeling. Enjoy your time at the park and eat at the Plaza or Crystal Palace or heck..even the castle.

don't forget that you can get the boat over to Ft. Wilderness for the show in the evening. We like the boat vs. the bus from the MK. Really nice ride and sightseeing. If you get there early, head over to the Horse Barn and see the disney horses and there is a mini horse museum in there too with walt and his horses...really nice little hidden secret.

Just relax, go with the flow and ENJOY! The mickey waffles at breakfast will be the same everywhere!

I would go because it's great that your 15 year old wants to do it. When I read about parents who are concerned because their teenagers aren't interested a Disney vacation, it's great to read about one who is looking forward to a character meal.

My grown daughter said she wants to have dinner in the castle so we made a reservation for one evening on our upcoming trip. I was surprised because she's never been interested in the characters, but it's the one thing she requested so we're going to do it. It'll be fun.

If you plan to be close to the front of MK (you could ride the train) at that time and you'd like to see the Fab 5 characters then I see nothing wrong with your plan. I wouldn't bother with the monorail but I'd just walk unless you feel tired or just want to sit for a bit. We have a stone on the pavement close to the Contemporary and the walk is easy IMO.

We did this a few years ago and it's doable but the transportation/walking time is always underestimated. We had little kids so things don't always go as planned and we're always running behind.:headache: If your DD is 15, you shouldn't have any problem getting places. It will be a busy and long day, but the relaxing boat ride and the ice cold A/C at HHDR will help!:thumbsup2

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think you'll find that you'll have more than enough time to get in some quality touring/riding after rope drop and still make it to CM's whether you take the monorail or walk (though walking might be a better idea, I'm sure by the time you get to and on the monorail, while walking against the flow of traffic into the park, you could practically be at the restaurant!). DH and I did the same thing last year and it worked beautifully.

We did EMH & a late CM's in 2008 and will do the same with a latebreakfastat 'Ohana's this October. Worked really well for us, got thru everything in Fantasyland which made it all worthwhile.
