on our next trip my brother is joining us half way through so this is what i was hoping to do.

1 - get a 1 bedroom for the first week when it's just dh, myself and 2 kids and then in the second week add on the studio/second bedroom for brother when he gets there

2 - have brother have his own room key with his own charging on it that's not linked to our credit card but his own?

Yes. You will have to check-out and then check back in again. You may have to change rooms.

This is reportedly available now with all of the system upgrades that Disney has done recently.

I think it is actually possible, but I think it is a very long chance...

You could request a 1 br lock-off (assuming its a separate booking category) then for the studio you could request that it be the adjoining studio, but I think its not likely....

Hopefully someone can give you a more definitive answer.

crap - i was hoping we woulnd't have to pack and move.

we're going in January if that makes a difference with it being not as busy

Depends on when you go in Jan. I have heard that Marathon weekend is pretty busy...

we would arrive on between dec 30 and jan 1 depending on a few things but brother would come jan 6th sunday

DVC runs close to 100% occupancy year round as do most timeshares, so it is not likely particularly being around the holidays. If you want to check in on December 30 and have not yet made the reservation, I don't think you have any chance at all.

But, nothing ventured nothing gained so give MS a call..

no not this december coming up - well we wanted to do it this december but we had to change it to next december

and ak is our home resort so we'd be booking right at the 11 month mark

I know it would be close quarters, but don't the 1brs at AKV sleep 5 with the sleeper chair? Would he mind bunking with the kids? There's no privacy for him that way which I can understand wouldn't make it the optimum choice. It would save points though.:thumbsup2

I just booked a trip for this December 28th-Jan 9th at our home resorts, and had no trouble at all. Our lovely school board just voted to remove our fall breaks, so we had to move our trip from Sept 11 to Dec 11 last week. FYI, we booked at BCV and VWL.

originally i had though this because the kids would be in our room since it's a king bed (ya i know tight) and bro would have the livingroom but he wants his own room which is fine since he'll be paying for the points we'd be using so he can have it i was just hoping they would make it a little easier and not make us move by putting us in the 1bedroom part and just open up the second room when he arrives.

don't care if someone is in it before he gets there cause the door will be locked.

The problem is ensuring that the room you are booked in happens to have someone leaving on the same day he is arriving or prior to his arrival. It's definately a luck of the draw.

We've tried this twice. Once it worked. My Dad arrived 3 days after us, reminded CM when we checked-in. He got the lock-off attachd to our 1BR. It was a separate reservation so no problem with his own CC on his room key.
Second try--couldn't get the lock-off but they put them in the same building. We just gave them an extra key to our room so he could come and go and they'd like--no different than having them next door. They didn't mind at all.

oh well we won't be adding a studio for the time he's here as a separate reservation - it's cheaper in points to go from a 1 bedroom to a 2 rather then a 1 bedroom and a studio

i guess we'll have to request it and wait and see
