Hi:) Just thinking ahead to when I fall in love with BCV next year and decide to purchase an add on there to go with my AKV & BLT points!!:goodvibes

Can you book your home resort at 11 months using banked and current years points and then at 7 months just switch the points (ie remove the current home resorts points from your reservation and use banked points from another of your resorts in their place):confused3

I've done this but the reservation you are trying to switch must be currently available when you try to switch the points. In other words, if you used your 11 month advantage and at 7 months there is no reservation available for the same size villa, then you can't switch out the points.

It is not technically a switch, but a cancellation and a rebooking using your points from your non home resort. They don't hold your room for you to just swap out points.

It's called a reallocation and we have done it many times. In fact a MS Adviser called me back after I checked on availability last week and offered to reallocate some points that she had noticed. We have never had to cancel and rebook.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the same points and just switch the ressie to the other resort at the 7 month mark?
If you use banked points to make the original reservation and then use another resorts points when you switch, you'll still have to use the original banked points in the current use year

Thanks everyone for their replies that has helped a lot!!:thumbsup2

Sorry, I am not quite sure if I understand what you mean??:) The reason behind what I wanted to do, was so that I could guarantee the room at the resort I wanted. What do you mean by 'switch the ressie to the other resort at the 7 month mark?'

They are only supposed to do that if there is availability for your room at the 7 month mark. If members are waitlisted for it, they are not supposed to do it, you would need to get on the waitlist behind them.

What Inkmahm & DebbieB posted is in place because if it wasn't then

an owner's Home Resort priority booking window from 11 months through

7months+1 day before check-in date desired is meaningless; it would

amount to everyone booking at their HR during priority booking period

& then at 7 month window swapping those points with another resort's

points.

:)

Maybe I misread your original post. You said...

..."then at 7 months just switch the points (ie remove the current home resorts points from your reservation and use banked points from another of your resorts in their place)"

Which sounds to me like you are using one resorts "banked and current years points" (Say BLT) to book a ressie (at BLT) during the 11 month home resort priority window and then at 7 months you say you want to... "remove the current home resort points from your reservation and use banked points from 'another' of your resorts (say AKL) in their place.

So in effect you want to end up (after switching at 7 months) using your AKL (in this example) points for the BLT ressie.

My point is that since the original booking used "banked and current years points", the banked points would still need to be used before they expire in the current use year.

Yes, I can actually see that now - thank you all for taking the time to explain it to me:lovestruc

I am with you now!:thumbsup2 In effect what I was proposing was a 'risky' plan then - as at 7 months, as you rightly say I could be left with banked points at the 'other' resort that I might not be able to 'switch' in.:scared1: :) - Thank you for pointing that out for me, its really helped me to get to grips with this whole thing!!

I have decided I am going to hold off (or at least try to!!:goodvibes) on buying anymore points at different resorts for a while - although the dream is to own at BLT, AKV, BCV & the new poly one (yes I am dreaming of that one!!:lmao:):cloud9:

thanks again for the info!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
