I'm pretty sure my teeth have shifted a bit. I had braces as a kid and it bugs me to think that my teeth are becoming a bit crooked.

I had all four wisdom teeth out ages ago specifically to avoid them moving my other teeth. Now here I am, 35 years old and my teeth seem to be shifting anyway! Is this normal as people age?

Yes, it's very normal.

I'm sort of lucky in that, at 44 years old, I have had minimal shifting. However, I know quite a few younger people who have had a bit of shifting after orthodonture. Like in their 20s.

I have attributed that to kids these days either having braces earlier, for shorter times, and not wearing the permanent retainers like they used to.

I didn't get braces until 13.5, wore them close to 3 years, and wore a permanent retainer until I was 21. Even then, my ortho was hesitant to remove it.

My DD is 16, has been out of braces for a few years, wears those stupid plastic retainers, and her teeth have shifted too much. My son is now in braces and I told his ortho that I am insisting on a permanent retainer with him.

Well, at least I know I'm not a freak. (well maybe I am but not regarding my teeth) :lmao:

I am 43 this year and could swear my teeth are shifting too. No reason other than I seem to bit my tounge more often! I think I obssess to much about stupid things! Anyway, I have not ever had braces or orthodonture, as a matter of fact I have the one and only filling I have ever needed still in there since I was 18. The dentist didn't say much last month when I went other then "well, as we age this does start to happen"...yeah, along with everything else!

If your bite is aligned properly the line between your top 2 front teeth will be in a straight vertical line with the line between your bottom 2 front teeth. Mine are way off. I have never had braces, but I had my wisdom teeth out in my 20's and I have multiple crowns in the very back. Now at age 38 my bite is crooked and I often end up biting my cheek when I am sleeping.
I thought about looking into orthodontics but I am worried that those crowns will come off from the braces pulling on them. :headache:

I don't know if it's normal, but I'm a few years older than you and I could say the very same thing. It's not so bad that other people would notice it, but my teeth aren't as perfect as when my braces were removed. In fact, I was thinking recently that I wish I had worn my retainer, well, forever. It's not so bad, though, that I would ever, ever go to the expense and trouble of having braces again.

I'm starting to wonder if that's my case as well. Am I weird to worry about this?

I actually just made myself an appointment at the orthodontist to see if I can get a retainer to possibly move them a bit, so they are at least a little more like they used to be. Am I weird to do this? Am I making a bigger deal out of this than I should? :confused3 :headache:

I was actually convinced that it was effecting my speech. Then I remembered that I had REALLY burnt my tongue the night before so I think my tongue may have been swollen a little in the front. :scared: I don't know whether to go through with my appt or not. :confused3

I wore braces as a kid for almost 8 years :scared1: we keep moving around and everytime we moved, a new set of braces would have to be put on...what a nightmare.

Fast forward to today I'm 45 and my bottom teeth are now crooked, go figure, not terribly so but just the same they are somewhat crooked.

Yeah, I had braces for 3 years. I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year, and now at 27 yrs old my teeth have shifted. My bottom teeth are a little crooked and not too noticable, the overbite is worse, and One of my canines lookes like it is trying to escape. It has turned kinda sideways on me. I can't get braces now since I am in Grad school, but it is the first thing I intend to do when I graduate (that and maybe some lovely veneers). Some Orthodontist will make a fortune of of me and my hubby. Hubby was born without two of his teeth that have never come in, he wears a partial now but will get permanent implants once i am done with school.

God forbid, when we have kids they will be the 7th wonder of the dental world.
