I just happened to think of this!!! On our 25th wedding anniversary we were at WDW WITH 16 y/o DS and 80 y/o DMIL, in 2001. While this was wonderful and great, I vowed that day that the when DS was finally in college, we would go that next Christmas for a belated 25th, just the two of us, the first week of December for the Christmas celebrations. (I'd heard how awesome it was and thought THAT would be special for our 25th)
ON our actual 25th, we told no one, and just had a nice day at WDW and my DMIL treated the 4 of us to dinner at Le Cellier. Told no one, no treats, no songs, no nothing. We just don't like that kind of stuff.
Well, TWO years later, in 2003, when our son went off to college, I made good on my vow and we went back, for a special belated 25th celebration, just DH and myself, at the BWI, the first week of December. VERY lovely and romantic. I'm sure in making my reservation, I went through this whole story with the reservation person, because I was SO excited to be going "alone, no kids, or MIL I should add!!!" for the first time and to be going for "Christmas" too for the first time.
Well, the day after we got there, a lady delivered a card signed by Mickey and Minnie, with balloons attached, wishing us a Happy Anniversary. We didn't mention anything upon check-in. Didn't tell anyone while we were there that week, like I said, we don't like that kind of stuff. So I can only assume it was from the reservation lady that made a note on our reservation from all my "excited chatting".
I guess I should have refused the card and balloons and begged forgiveness, admitting that it was just DH and myself that were using this time as a special "belated" gift for the two of us, and we are not at all deserving of their kind thought, since the actual date was TWO years ago!!! Instead I graciously accepted it and it's a cute reminder of our special time together and our first vacation "without kids" as empty nesters.
