There's an ad on TV for one of the people running for NY governer. In it, they do some "people-on-the-street" interviews. The 1st one is of an older woman who says, "The reason I'm voting for 'Candidate A' is because I don't think 'Candidate B' can win, and I want my vote to count this time."

Is this woman for real!?!? Instead of voting based on the candidates' platforms, she's voting for the person she thinks will win!!

It's this kind of ingnorance that aggravates me. And what on earth was candidate A thinking in airing this woman's "testemonial"? He must be desperate if this is one of the more "flattering" testemonials he can get!

That's an actual ad?!?!?!   Good grief!

I've heard people say it during news interviews & private conversations, but you're right! Why on earth would candidate A use that in an ad? I'm just ornery enough to NOT vote for candidate A if he's dumb enough to think that ad would influence me!

So, no, I don't vote that way. I usually try to at least find out a candidates previous record & platform before I decide.

10 more minutes and Canidate A is going to announce something.I think he is dropping out of the race.

I put the sample ballot up on the wall and throw darts.

Just kidding..... ;)

Im sorry but...Im ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!! What does she think its the lottery and she wants to pick a winner? And why did they air that stupidity.

Gee all that time studying the paper today and reading about the candidates platforms for the last 2 months...all I had to do was go with who will most likely win....guess I have been doing it the hard way. ;)

I agree totally

Is this a good time for...
Well I'm proud to be an American...

I've heard this mentioned as a reason for not voting for third party candidates. I've been told that candidate C who is an independent/libertarian/whatever has no chance of winning so it makes more sense to vote for the "lesser of two evils". I see the point but think it's a shame.

That's not the way I vote.

But, you can see why people stay in office for years & years.

According to TV marketing folks, the average
American consumer watches TV with the intellect
of a 12 year old. I have nothing against 12 year
olds-they are very cool but....they are not wise
enough to vote. So, if TV heads watching this ad
go and vote, they'll vote for "the winner". You can
bet on it. Scary isn't it. Have you watched CSPAN
lately when they have live Congressional activity.
It looks like 12 year olds elected our lawmakers!
Seems like nobody I vote for ever wins....does that
stop me? Nope!!!

I pick the fattest one. I figure if they're fat, they're well fed. If they're well fed, they have money. If they have money, they're less inclined to steal mine. :teeth:

Seriously though I think it's unfortunate when anyone votes for a candidate for any reason besides what the candidate stands for on the issues.

That's like rooting for a sports team you don't like over one you do because they are the favorite to win.

She's not making her vote count; she's just going with a winner so she can say "I voted for the winner" and feel good on Wednesday. IMO, people like that shouldn't even be voting at all.

I'll vote for the candidate I want to win. Sometimes it's a vote against the candidate I don't want to win, but that's usually a "lesser of two evils" situation. That may not be the ideal situation, but sometimes it's the only one. I want my vote to count, and it's only not going to count if I don't vote.

Does anyone have an update on Candidate A's announcement? RMD made me curious!
