Is this how "bashing" first begins?

When I first joined the Dis-boards, the resort du jour for bashing was BWV, with a little SSR thrown in the mix. I wasn't "tuned in" at the beginning, when tiny seeds of distaste were sown, so I don't know how long before the full crop comes in.

Especially in the last few days, there seems to be a lot of extra heat regarding different aspects of AKV ownership, mostly in the AKV vs SSR vein, and I'm sensing AKV is about to become the new resort du jour

Please, folks, they're all great and they all have appeal for their owners. No one is wrong or right to buy where they do. I'm not talking about the factual info that's exchanged; I'm talking about the posts that are borderline personal.

Wow, why would anyone bash BWV? Anyway, you're right, they're all great. Especially AKV.

I haven't read anything that I would consider AKV bashing. Much of what I've read is concern about annual fees.

Of course, I only skim many of the threads.

I'm with you on this one DVC Granny.

I don't intend to buy AKV, but that doesn't mean I will not try to book it one day and decided to change my mind about an add-on.

When it comes down to it, it's none of my business what others do with their money. Nor am I the chief arbeiter of taste in DVC resorts, to tell others they spent their money foolishly on a resort that they don't care for(SSR or possibly AKV).

Now I will stick my nose in threads where common sense is somewhat lacking(non-DVC), for example a thread where the OP is congradualting herself on packing a suitcase with 50lbs of water and
snacks.

OMIGOSH! I just realized that the "bashing" correlates to OUR purchasing patterns! First BWV, then SSR, then AKV!

Please someone, tell me there was bashing before we joined............

Resort bashing? After the Great OKW vs BWV Wars of a few years ago, everthing since has been very tame!

Here's my take on "resort bashing". There is actually very little bashing of resorts done on these threads, What does happen is there are a lot of opinions that might not be flattering to a particular resort.

We all paid a lot of money for our DVC, and to hear anyone list a shortcoming, complaint or negative opinion about our home resort immediately puts many people into the defensive posture. Nobody wants to hear that they have an ugly baby.

And what do they do? They respond, as if they can sway someone's opinion with logic. Or with their own opinion. And many of the responses escalate the discussion way beyond the original comment.

EVERY DVC resort has had its turn in the barrel. AKV will be no different, and some will love it and some dislike it a lot.

I'd hate to see these boards become a "let's hold hands, sing kumbaya and praise DVC" board.

On the other hand, personal attacks are unacceptable such as "why would anyone in their right mind buy at XXX Resort?".

I agree with MG...there has been very little AKV bashing going on. Concerns about dues, construction noise, room assigning, or anything else are valid topics and if someone says they don't care for the theme, that isn't a bash.

Besides, nothing like a little friendly resort comparison discussion...

...to get the day jump started!

Postdecisional dissonance! It's why buying DVC points was a really tough call beforehand but felt like a wonderful decision immediately afterward. Of course, it really WAS.

Amen! Totally agree. Does anyone remember the thread about all you could do at BWV? Very tongue and cheek. I loved the one about the convenience of grabbing a beer from the fridge while never leaving your chair on the balcony. What a hoot! Oh, I miss that guy!

I am not a basher . I love the fact that as a DVC owner I have so many choices . However, I can't tell you how many times I've seen/read other posters telling us SSR owners, as our home was being bashed, "...just wait until a new resort opens, then they'll leave SSR alone...." So, all I have to say is .

Wow, why would anyone bash BWV? Anyway, you're right, they're all great. Especially AKV.

I love BWV. It is my favorite. I bashed SSR a little, but after thinking about it i decided to focus on the positives. Yeah, it is not close in any way shape or form to BWV, HOWEVER.....it does have some positives depending on your scenario. As a matter of fact I just bought my second home resort at...............................SSR! YES! ANd I am glad I did. SSR is good for getting away and when you are not in any rush to get to the parks. Quiet and isolated.

yea in those early days not alot of BWV owners here - so boy it got bashed alot. Rick basically told me I was crazy for adding on at BWV.... loved it when he finally admitted he stayed there....

no you are way to early.

expect it to start in Sept - when the first DVC members come back and report on their visit.

every DVC resort has something that some people will love while others hate.

At least DVC doesn't make their resorts to look like all their other resorts. Each one is different. !!!!!

Two funny things about DVC: 1) Disney will always insure our points grow in value due to ROFR use; and 2) no two DVCs are exactly alike. That means there will be something people like and hate at each of them. Talking about those things here just helps put expectations more in line with reality.

I think at one time or another all dvc resorts were "bashed", i dont think they were bashed more then the other. The problem im having if members are bashing the dvc resorts, why am i having a hard time booking a dvc resort at the 11 - 7mon. window and last min trips i have to pay cash (dvc discount)
for a dvc resort. If they are bashing the dvc resorts why are they staying there

That's why I was asking if this is the way it begins, even before a resort is opened.
BWV was already open by the time I discovered these boards, and I found out that I had bought into a resort with the "long hallways from H***". And then I found out that I also owned a piece of a resort with the "dreary, plain hallways from H***!
So, my question is "what are the first signs?" Does it start off fairly tame (like now) and then just start gathering energy into a crescendo during the first few years, until the next DVC comes on the horizon?

I really need to know if I should begin .

I agree, that why I never post on any of the XYZ Lovers Threads. A world where everyone agreed would be too darn boring!

I think the ugly baby pretty much sums it up and also the fact that some believe their opinion is fact and want others to agree with them.

Not everyone wants to walk to Epcot, some really prefer to ride a bus to the front of Epcot and be close to Future World when they arrive. Therefore some can not accept that the Epcot resorts do not appeal to everyone.

Also some truly have no desire to spend anytime on a bus at all or Downtown Disney so OKW and SSR don't appeal to them.

Some have no desire in AKV, myself included, we stayed at AKL did not like it and nothing has changed to make it appealing now.

The room decor at VWL turns some off but others love it.

So bascially as long as everyone would accept the fact no DVC resort is perfect and all are different, and that Different is Good there would be no bashing.

Of course some just bash and make comments to stir the pot and get a rise out of others. Personally I feel sorry for that type of poster, it seems they are so immature.

well they generally started when someone found that a new resort was opening.

but hey if you feel the need to bash AKV - go ahead!!!

so far every resort has been bashed until the next one is opened. Does that tell you how silly this is?
