Is this going to be a pain?

So after a few chats with a Disney rep I am starting to think that there will definitely be a free dining offer in November. The rep today mentioned that I should book November 11 instead of the tenth. Sadly this is not an option as I already have my air booked.

So I would have to do an overnight Sunday the tenth without the package and then start the package on the 11th.

Does this mean I will lose my room and have to move to a different room when I start the package? How much of a hassle is this going to be?

We met several people who did exactly this last year. At least at POR, they let them stay in the same room. Just be sure to let them know at the front desk when you check in the first day. I know those who did it had to check in again the next day for the FD package. You can pick your tickets up early (up to 3 days) at Guest Assistance. I would assume they may let you keep the same room based on availability, but no guarantee.

Yes, it's all a matter of availability. If there's room, you'll be able to stay in the same one. Worst case, you have to change rooms after your first night. Just don't unpack too much! Your dining credits won't be available until the second day. And you will have to go to the desk to basically check out and check back in. It's really not that big of a deal. When you book it, have them connect it to your longer stay. They somehow make a note and do try to have you stay in the same room.

We had to do this at the last minute on our last trip. Hurricane headed our way, so we changed our flights and got out a day early--better than being stuck at home, wishing we were at Disney! We called a day before arrival and asked for a one-night reservation. We were told we might have to switch rooms, but we got lucky and didn't.

We've done this before. Actually, we've done it twice. Make sure when you book the reservations, you tell them that you want a notation made that the first reservation is a "continuing" reservation. This increases the chances that you'll get to keep the same room for the entire stay. Also, when you check in for the first reservation, remind them again.

As others have already said, you will need to check-in for the package reservation the next morning but it's really on that big of a deal.

Yikes - I just hope we don't have to move to another room. That would just be a huge pain as we are only there for such a short time. (5 nights) I would hate to have park day interrupted because we have to change rooms.

Even if you have to, it won't be a big deal. You will need to go down in the morning before you leave for the park, just to check in/check out from the old reservation to the new. But you'll have to do this whether you change rooms or not. If you do need to change, all you have to do is pack up your bags and leave them. The staff will move your stuff to the new room for you.

Ask them to link your reservations when you book. I've done this several times and never had to change rooms.
