Is this correct?

Just got off the phone with member services.

I have contracts under 2 membership IDs. The reason for the second ID is my mother and I purchased together but my name is on that contract as well.

I was just told that I can NOT make a reservation online using all my contracts simultaneously. In other words, I must use one contract to book rooms for a stay under one ID, then start over and use my other contract and ID to finish my booking?!?!?

I’m sure for this group I don’t need to explain the disadvantage that puts me in when I go to book a resort that is in high demand and not my home resort (7 months out).

Of course I can call a rep on the phone to book but I just waited on hold for 70 minutes. If I call 9:00 AM Eastern to book and am put on hold for 30 minutes to an hour, we all know what happens to the high demand resorts during that time.

This whole system is getting worse by the day. No one got a break on annual maintenance charges and we can use only 50% to borrow from our contracted agreement....even though we all went through months of no availability to our timeshare. Ridiculous.

Good things it’s Disney.

This has always been the case when you have more than one membership. You either have to do as the MS CM described, or you can elect to transfer points from one membership to the other. This uses your "one transfer per use year per membership" for both memberships.

This is the primary reason for the recommendation often given NOT to purchase different use years (unless you never plan to combine points from the different memberships for the same vacation). Contracts must also be titled exactly the same to fall under the same membership.

Yes this is they way you have to book with more than 1 member number t has always been this way. This is why people who buy resale are advised to buy the same UY.

it doesn’t need to put you at too much of a disadvantage at 7 months though if you think it all through well in advance and have 11 month booking made that are easy to modify at 7 months it is manageable.

Appreciate the input. So I can ‘transfer’ points from one membership to the other prior to booking a trip? Or must the transfer happen at booking?
Same use year

There was a credit for overpaid dues for time lost in the 2020 use year. It varied by use year and resort, but we definitely received a credit (as did my sister's family for her ownership). There were posts outlining the varying amounts based on the resorts you own and how much time you lost while those properties were closed (I think that's how it worked). Either way, we definitely received it as a discount on our dues payable in January of this year.

We got a credit on our dues for the time the resorts were shut down. As for banking & borrowing, DVD has the right to suspend them at any time to prevent the points system from getting out of balance.

You can do it ahead of time. As I recall, you may have an issue booking online before the 7 month window opens (but MS should be able to do that for you). Otherwise you can book online yourself. AFAIK, you do have to call to get the transfer done, thought.

DVC WAS CORRECT.. Think of this way, you own 2 different "Homes ". 2 sets of taxes . Just like you can't take a bedroom from house1 and the kitchen from house 2, kind of the same idea.

I would avoid transferring points like the plague. You can’t see transferred points online so your only option is to call you can’t book with them online. I’ve more than once had to wait ages for MS to go find transferred points that were not immediately obvious in my account. The two booking method is far better and easier

Transferred points can be seen and used online now. The only issue seems to be booking during the 11 month window which will likely require calling in.

Was this a recent experience? There have been recent multiple reports of being able to book online with transferred points once the 7 month window opens. AFAIK, transferred points are visible online - there is just an online booking issue for those wanting to use them before 7 months, even when booking the resort associated with the points ( which is allowed under the rules).

This was a 2019 trip booked late 2018. It was such a hassle I just wouldn’t do it again

also I always book at 11 months not 7

I have a couple of transfers in my account right now....they show up and can be used online in the 7 month window but not 11. What I don't know is if you transfer in points for a resort that you also own at if those would be able to be used in the 11 month window or not.

The key here for transfer is that you can not transfer points which have been banked, and once transferred, you can not borrow them for a reservation.

So, it can be tricky. Now, you can transfer points and then bank, but again you just have to plan more carefully.

But, two memberships is like being different owners and why you can’t book a single trip using points from both.

I have two and I simply use each on their own, If we ever travel during a busy time, we simply book all on one and borrow if need be even if we have points in the other one. I am not a fan of transfer so I prefer to just do it this way.

We have used transferring to move points from one membership to the other, but we had to be very specific which was transferred to the other. You can never borrow transferred points. You can never transfer banked or borrowed points, only current year points (like 2021 to 2021). When you transfer, those transferred points maintain their UY and resort. So you can't save points that are past banking by transferring.

I have a Sept UY and a Dec UY. If I am booking an Oct trip, I can't transfer the Dec points to the Sept contract because I would need to borrow the Dec points to use them. But I can transfer Sept to Dec and used both banked, borrowed and current Dec points for an Oct reservation (two months before the start of the UY) and transferred Sept UY points.

Your other issue is that you are limited to one transfer in or out per UY. They sometimes will get a supervisor to override that if you are transferring to yourself, but I've always been told I've used my one transfer in for the one UY and one transfer out for the other.

Just want to echo what others are saying...transfers have a lot of drawbacks / headaches. Make sure you understand clearly before you go down that road.

If you plan to vacation at least 1x per year, I'd recommend a pattern of alternating between the two memberships, using banking and borrowing to fill your needs. E.g., 2021 trip is booked with Contract A, using points from 2021 and borrowed from 2022. Then 2022 trip is booked with Contract B, with some combination of 2021 banked points, 2022 current points and 2023 borrowed points.

Transferred points retain their original Home Resort so if you own at two separate locations, a transfer still won't let you book your entire stay at 11 months. With the banking/borrowing strategy I described, you'll be able to book each trip at 11 months.

I have contracts under 2 membership IDs
Are they the same resort? If not, split stays are another fun option. I have two memberships also. I'm booking a split stay in April for 4 days at VWL using one, and then 10 more at BLT using the other.

I appreciate everyone’s input here, greatly.

I find it all overly confusing for a multitude of reasons.

To simplify, if I want to plan a trip (one resort, not a split stay) that requires points from both memberships the easiest thing to do is call MS once I’m in my booking window. They can do a one time per year transfer of points to accommodate? Same use year
