Is this completely insane?

I have heard of people doing a split stay between 2 resorts. Would it be crazy to do 3 resorts?

My husband and I are planning our first trip to the World this December during the beginning of the month (8 days/7 nights.) Part of the reason we are taking this trip is to help us plan a much larger upcoming family trip.

We plan to take a day to tour the resorts but walking around a lobby and staying at a resort are two different things.

We are thinking about staying at the AKL, an MK resort (probably the GF) and an Epcot resort. Because it is just the two of us would it be crazy to stay at all 3? During our family trip we will be sticking to one resort.

Note: My hubby and are don't unpack our bags when we stay at a hotel. We "live" out of the suitcases. This means we don't have to worry about major unpacking and repacking when we change resorts.

Go for it! I took a two week Disney Vacation last year and stayed at 5 resorts.
AoA, AKL, GF, SS, and Vero Beach! Had a great time!

do it!!! yacht club is my fav epcot resort, GF my fav MK resort and AKL is dark but nice and hated the straws

If you don't unpack then you are golden. The only thing we don't like is losing the use of the room. But without small kids it would be easier to fill that time. That said we did a 2/7 split Vgf studio to 2br bwv and it was awesome.

Go for it. We have done 7 to 8 day vacations staying at 2 to 3 hotels in different towns a hour to 2 apart so your plan is easy.

I recently tried my first split stay and am not in a hurry to repeat the experience. That being said, we like to be able to unpack. It drives me crazy to live out of a suitcase. Also we went from a deluxe to a mod which I know wasn't the best idea. Since you are fine not unpacking, just two adults, and planning on 3 deluxes, I would say go for it. It's a great way to try new resorts without the commitment of an entire week and that way you will know you will love your choice for your big family trip.

With 2 adults I think it's totally doable and probably the best plan to get a feeling for each area.

I've done a split with 3, as long as you have at least 2 nights at each I think it works. Especially with two adults.

Personally I don't see the appeal of a split stay. We settle in, unpack, and enjoy one resort for a week.

But that's us. It sounds as though you're up for the adventure.

So go for it.

Go for it, you are right it's different staying there than walking around. I visited POR and walked around since we always try to visit at least one other resort when we go. We hated it. Later, I stayed there during a split stay with OKW. Loved it and actually wished I hadn't split with OKW and just stayed there. I almost always do a split stay now, I stay at a moderate the first night or two then move over to a deluxe. Have fun.

Do it. BECAUSE this is a planning trip, otherwise I'd say stick to one or two. That's going to give you a good feel for the 3 areas.

Go for it! I'm planning to be there at the same time with my DH and DS2 and we're doing a split stay. (universal-AKL-CR) so... I'm probably more insane than you

Too funny, I am literally sitting here contemplating a very similar trip. We're going for 11 nights and I cannot pick one, or even two, resorts. I am currently debating 2 nights AKL, 4 nights BC, and 5 nights GF or Poly. We have three kids though so it would be a bit more crazy than it would be for you lol. Anyway, I clearly don't think it's insane, go for it! My plan is to bring a suitcase for each leg of the trip, like one suitcase for each stay, to hopefully make it less hectic and easier to find what we need. That will be the only suitcase that is unpacked at each resort.

Knowing that you are doing it to get the feel of the resort for a future say -- absolutely go for it. A walking tour would either not give you enough feel for the resort, or would probably waste an entire day. The way we've done split stays is to leave our bags with the bellman for transfer to the next resort, go to whichever park we want and return to the new resort from that park -- they take care of the luggage, you just need to call when you get into your room to have them bring it to your room. As a matter of fact, on our last split stay, I got a text telling me what my room number was at the new resort, the magic band I had from the "old" resort was programmed to open the door at the new resort and when we opened the door....there was our luggage!

No downtime whatsoever!

Not at all do it 110%! You get to experience more then 1 resort and that itself right is an adventure of its own. There's really no time wasted switching resorts either since Disney can pick up your bags from your room if you call down first thing in the morning & it will be at your new resort in the afternoon while you head off to the park!

As adventurous as they are, I probably wouldn't attempt one for my first trip. However, that's not to say they can't be done or done smoothly, especially since you are using this as an opportunity to plan or test out a future trip...

Will you be using your own vehicle? Will you be adding a package to any portion of the trip? Will that package include the DDP? These things matter time wise when it comes to split-stays.
