I so miss Carousel of Progress.

I haven't seen it since my honeymoon back in 94. Is it ever open or is it a dead building?

it's open every day. has been for years.

It was open when we were there in May!!

It's a great big beautiful tomorrow :rotfl2:

Actually that is incorrect. Every time I have been back since 1994 it has not been open, except maybe in April of 98 I'm not sure. That is why I am asking.

So is it just a busy season ride?

No it has been open daily for years. When Alien Encounter went down to become Stitch it has been open every day since.

It just dosen't LOOK open because hardly anyone goes in. We thought it was closed when we went in May. Closer inspection revealed not a soul at the entrance and a lone CM standing next to the building waiting for a patron to show up. We did--and there were only FOUR other people in our "theatre" when the show began.
Very sad---.

It was open last September during "slow" season. Great way to beat the heat during the middle of the day!

Carousel of Progress IS open every day (barring technical difficulties). The hours are somewhat different from park hours - about 10 to 5, or 10 to dusk, but it is open.

Well I'm glad to hear they changed it.

To me closing Wonders of Life was no loss but COP was.

No I thought it was only open at certain times too-it was open last time I went during MNSSHP season so I made a point of going cos I'd not seen it open the previous 2 visits. Its bliss for a sit-down in the cool

This is stretching my memory a bit but, as I recall, it had been open since the beginning and was still running in 2001. Then it became seasonal for a couple of years. I tended to go in February and it was never open when I went within the first few years of the 2000nd's. Then Alien encounter was closed to make room for Stitch and they reopened CoP permanently, at least to this point.

Attendance is a problem that is caused by a number of problems. The first is that it wouldn't be possible for Disney to care less about this attraction so they do not spend a nickel promoting it and, Second, and biggest, is that the public, when they are aware of it's existence, have absolutely no appreciation of history and what made Disney great.

If it doesn't cause your heart to beat faster or to bring you to near puke conditions, it is looked upon as not worth it, boring or lame. The saddest thing is that this trend will likely continue until all the old, what made Disney great, attractions are in the landfill. They can never be revived because frankly no one has the imagination active enough to create a story within a theme park ride anymore. I think it is a lost skill and I doubt it will ever return.

Anyway, all that to say that it is open, at least for now and still appreciated by a dwindling number of people. BTW, I may be off on the actual years that all this happened but it did occur somewhat in that order and somewhat near that time. As a post note...I rode it in 2006, the theater was 3/4's full and there was cheering and applause at the end. A good sign, I hope! Word of mouth made it popular and that could happen again, but, it needs to be soon.

We so love this ride! It may not be a thrill to a lot of people, but to us it's a park institution! It's one of the things we definitely will do more than once and even our teen ager has admitted he likes it - granted he whispered that he did after looking around to make sure none of his friends heard him :sad2:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

COP was closed in Sept 2003 when my wife and I were there. We were told it was seasonal.

Granted, Alien Encounter was still there. Sounds like it may be open when we got back this year. I love this ride too!

This is one of the rides a distinctly remember from my childhood. I loved it and hope to take my children there when we return in June.

I also remember going in Haunted Mansion, but that's about it. I almost fainted and miss the entire ride:rotfl2: . Can you guess that I was a big chicken?

"Seasonal" is a term that Disney likes to use that basically means "closed except in extreme circumstances", and often "we are getting rid of it, but haven't had the money or the time to do so". :)

CoP may still be listed as Seasonal, but it has been open almost every day for the past several years. Prior to that it was closed most of the time (when it picked up the "Seasonal" tag), and it was rumored that it would be replaced. CoP may be one of the few if not the only attraction to actually reopen on a regular basis after being slapped with the Seasonal tag.

Wonders of Life is at the opposite end. It has been mostly closed for years, except for a couple weeks this past December.

It was open in June. My family thought it was terrific. :goodvibes

My three year old did fall asleep. Great place for a toddler to nap. :thumbsup2

Last May when I was there it was open and the whole family really enjoyed watching the show. Disney doesn't really go out of the way to make it look like it's open. It barely looked open. When people started realizing it was open a line started to form for the next show. Our crowd was about 3/4 full. Obviously Disney doesn't care about the ride at all. My previous trip in May 2003 it was closed, but then the parks still hadn't recovered yet from 9/11 at that point.

We all loved it and even my young nieces left singing along. It's an enjoyable way to get off your feet in some airconditioning for awhile. I'm hoping it's going to be open for my next trip in Oct.

we did it in dec to take a break from walking and my toddler girls still talk about it..they even remember the song.

ITs a great big beautiful tomorrow!!! My family loves this ride and it has been open on all of our disney trips including the most recent one in Dec of last year.
