Is This Appropriate?

I hope you wore what you described. It sounds great for a September reception.

BTW, Peggy Post says it is perfectly acceptable to wear black to a wedding. Just be sure to look celebratory rather than like you're in mourning (unless you are, of course).

Maybe its a regional thing but I have yet to see anyone wearing black to a wedding and we attend several weddings per year. I may want to wear black ;) , but I would rather not attend if I felt the need to protest the wedding (or reception).

Is this an old wives tale or something?Honestly I've never heard anything like this until today on the DIS.

I think it may be regional. I see you're in IN. I'm in IL. I can't tell you how many times I've worn a fancy black dress to a wedding. And I was never alone.

It's fine to wear black to a wedding and not wear black to a funeral. It's very common here and kind of old fashioned to think otherwise.

I was married in black...and I'm pretty sure I nor any of my wedding party was protesting my wedding :lmao:

Well, I certainly got more replies than I had thought. I actually ended up wearing a black skirt - a little past my knees, a camel 3/4 sleeve silk shirt and strappy sandals. Most of the other people were wearing black as well. I've never heard of NOT wearing black to a wedding. In fact, I wore a black bridesmaid dress in my SIL's wedding, black to my DH's cousin's wedding and MANY guests wore black to my wedding. I was miffed when one of the guests at my wedding wore WHITE. The same girl wore white at my SIL's wedding. I would think that wearing WHITE is a big NO NO!

We had a nice time, too.
