Is it acceptable for one person of your party to stand in line and get fast passes to TSMM while the rest of the party gets in the standby line and the FP person meet you in the line?

I don't want to get a bunch of dirty looks while I am trying to meet up with the rest of my party.

ETA: Thank you everyone again. I didn't realize this was a heated topic so I apologize for bringing it up. We will plan accordingly and all wait together or meet before going into the inside part of the builiding. Better to ask here before actually getting to the parks and learning that it is frowned upon ;)
You all have been most helpful.

Then you probably shouldn't do it. You will more than likely get a few dirty looks and may run into some that will not allow you to catch up to your party. If you party wants to wait and let others ahead of them till you get to them then most find that more acceptable.

I would just wait the 30 seconds for the FP person get the passes. People start to get frustrated in that line. People were freaking out when they had to wait 10-15 min with fast passes.

The TSM line is a classic "wind through the building" line. You'll have to push past a lot of people - so no, this is really not okay. If you want to ride together, the entire party should enter the line together.

Little kid needs a bathroom break? Go for it. Whole family wants to get thirty people ahead while you get fastpasses? No, not cool.

Ok thank you for the quick replies. We will plan to wait all together.

It takes a lot more than 30 seconds to get a FP for TSM!

Personally, I think it's OK to rejoin your party as long as they are still outside the building and you can just duck into line. Once you have to start wading into the queue and passing folks, I don't think it's OK or fair to the other people in line.

I just don't know why people have to be greedy and go on that ride more than once in a day. The last vacation I had in WDW I didn't even go on TSM because the fastpasses were all sold out and the line was too long.

Be kind and don't hog up TSM. The queue is always too long so go on it once and be on your way.

is it acceptable? not sure. Does it happen? Yes.

Immediately after the park opening the line moves fast through the queue. I'd say if your party hasn't gotten inside the building yet, it's easy to jump in line with them. After that point, you'd be pushing past a lot of people.

Last week when I was there The Cast Member working the gate was helping people rejoin there groups at that point.

The angry looks may vary. The "organized" walk to the fastpass and stand-by lines was enough to set off lots of tempers though.

And the betting starts at 12 pages.

OP~
This is a classic thread, and please don't think you've done anything wrong, but this is going to become a heated topic. But that's alright, we haven't had a FP runner barnburner in a while.

It should be noted however, that Robo follows the rules.

Once your party is inside the building (which they will be very very quickly at rope drop) you will be prevented from joining them by the cast members stationed at the entrance.

Just have them stand out of the way before they enter the queue and wait for your fastpass gatherer to get there, and then all enter the queue together.

There are some rides where I feel that it is okay to send a FP runner and have them meet up with you. TSM is NOT one of those rides. The queue is tight and mostly indoors. It would be disruptive and intrusive to ask people to let you through.

However, we do typically get in the Dumbo line while DH goes to get a FP for Pooh or Peter Pan. The Dumbo queue is all outside and DH will wait until we are at a row's end to slip into the line. It has no effect on other's wait times because we would still be using 2 Dumbos for our party with or without him. It can be done discretely without inconveniencing other guests.

Again, this is just my take on the subject. Personally, I have no problem letting someone into a line, but that doesn't mean the other 99 people in line with me will be so generous.

Now, I do have an issue with someone waiting in a character line and then having 12 other people join them, which happened to us at MNSSHP. If they were all one group, it wouldn't have been a huge deal, but one person was holding a spot for 3 separate families. THAT bothered me, but I didn't let it ruin my night.:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2, and I'll go with the over.

OP, sounds like your heart's in the right place and I commend you for asking. Now run away and don't look back here. ;)

Agree with PP. This is what we do also. I usually see where my husband is in the fastpass line and try to judge when to get in line so he can catch up to me before getting into the chained area of the line. If he isn't there by the time I get to the chains, I let people go by me until he gets there. First, my husband isn't comfortable trying to push his way to get to me. Secondly, many people don't like when people are pushing their way through to get to their party and he probably will get some dirty looks.

Have the fastest person go to get the FPs and send the slower ones to the ride. The slower ones wait for the FP runner to return and then all get in line. The slower ones could even use the bathroom on the way to the ride.

The expected this thread to get heated, too, but this comment caught me by surprise:

So, if I read what you are saying right, no one should ride TSM more than once per day? So if I get there at rope drop and get FP, I shouldn't ride in standby? Or I shouldn't get another fastpass at 11:00 AM (provided that they still exist)?

If I'm willing to stand in a 50 minute standby, I should only do so if I haven't ridden already, because I am somehow depriving you of a chance to ride. Um, could you not also stand in standby, or get to the park early enough to get a FP?

Are there other attractions that I should also limit my use of? If so, what are the polite limits? One safari per day? Two? What's the number for Everest? Do these limits only come into play when the lines are long... is it okay for me to keep walking on to a ride if the lines are short? Are there posted limits that I can review?

Let's take it further. We've been to Chef Mickey's, should we not get ressies for our next trip so that others who have not been (and did not plan) can get our spot? What about the Pirates League... same thing?

Should we not get there early for parades and fireworks, until we are sure that those who haven't planned accordingly have seen the shows?

Honestly, I'm not trying to be disrespectful... I am really trying to wrap my head around what seems to me to be a very strange idea. This isn't me buying up all of the Tickle Me Elmos to sell on eBay for a huge profit, thus denying your little one of their treasured toy on Christmas. This is me making it a point to do a priority attraction early so that I can do it twice, if I so choose. I am having a tough time with the concept that I am somehow wrong by doing so... but I'm open to discussion on the matter.

I saw this happen 3 different times while I was there this weekend! I do not mind at all when I see a family, and then the mom holding a small kid is running up to join them. I can connect the dots and figure the little one probably needed to use the restroom, no judgement. But 1 person holding a spot for 12 is ridiculous! And they were still looking for more people from their party. It also became a joke as people kept coming up.

No worries. Welcome to the DIS :thumbsup2. Don't take it personally while people continue to tell you it's not acceptable or argue among themselves or share line cutting stories. Many times they only read the first post and then reply without reading the rest.

You *could* go to your first post and add the text of the post I am quoting to the end of it. That will slow things down a bit ;).
