WHere is TL and what is it?? How much does it cost to do this??? Seems like it would be fun to try!

Shark Reef is free, however it does require admission to Typhoon Lagoon

I heard that at TL shark reef there is a glass bottom that seperates you from the sharks is this true?? Just curiours
I had read in "Walt Disney World with Kids 2002" edition by Kim Wright Wiley about Shark Reef before we went to WDW and I had thought sharks were behind glass because of what the book says----
"This is a saltwater pool where snorkelers swim 'among' exotic marine life, including sharks. The sharks are behind Plexiglas, of course, and are not too numerous, so anyone expecting the casting call for Jaws will be disappointed."
Needless to say I wasnt worried but when I did try to do it my DD6 and I both chickened out because of the feeling of the masks and afraid we would sink! My Dh and DS's 15 and 18 loved it and went several times!

At Discovery Cove in the snorkeling area off to one side is a glass partition between you and the sharks, (it's on the side, not the bottom though)

Yes you do have to have admission to TL.
When my DS was younger he could not use the snorkle, so I had him put on his googles and he just held onto me and I pulled him across. He was 4 at the time. :flower:

Yeah....these sharks are tiny. I swam with bigger ones when we snorkeled in Hawaii. We're planning to do the scuba (snuba) at the Shark Reef. It's $20 for a half-hour and $15 for the second person. Aughta be fun !!! :bounce:

Could you please tell me more about the rafts. I have a 2 and 4 year old that love the water but aren't good enough swimmers to make it across the tank. Two years ago they didn't have any rafts. We take them fishing all the time in the ocean and they love all the fish (even the sharks ) that we catch so I know they would love to see this!

The rafts are similar to inflatable air mattresses except only about 1/2 as long . They have a clear plastic window about where the eyes should go so you can see down to the bottom of the tank. They also have ropes on them so an adult can pull them

The sharks are leopard sharks and bonnethead sharks (look like hammerheads), both feed primarily on benthic (bottom dwelling) organisms like crabs, shrimp, and the like. They will take fish when they can.

Unless you have leftovers from Cape May in your pocket, you have NOTHING to worry about.

Ted

I had no idea they had rafts! Did they have them in 2003? I don't recall them on that trip an it sure would have been nice for our youngest two to enjoy this also. DH and I had to take turns (with oldest) because our youngest two weren't strong swimmers... that's why my son wants to do this so badly on this trip! I had no idea they had rafts for you to pull for youngsters!

The sharks are bottom dwellers, species that don't eat anything bigger then they are, and are very well fed. Thus they havve no use for the big things floating several feet above them!

Right.
I survived the first time (after at first hyperventilating in the snorkel LOL) by just telling myself they are probably scared to death of the big people above them. LOL

Interesting that the author wrote this and that the editor missed this error. I wonder if it has been corrected in later issues of the book?

Yeah... It was a GREAT attraction. 700 stitches later... AH what the heck? I'd do it again!

Are you sure that wasnt at DestinBeach world ?
:confused3 I don't really see the humor in laughing about something where a young girl lost her life, another his leg---I know it was meant to be funny and maybe that's just me but that seemed really inappropriate
