Will you check-in to the room at all? Sorry, I am still trying to understand this.

Without knowing all the details, I like the idea of staying at WDW before or after your cruise.

Ding Ding we have a winner. In fact we are going to upgrade the tickets to AP. The real reason for the cruise is that is what we really had are heart set on the cruise and were shocked to find out no cruises from them. So since we already have 2 trips planed this year to WDW and it is a large credit we won. Mite as well sneak in a cruise. Now if any does know that Disney says that nono you cant do that please let me know/.

We're Canadian so no income taxes on the credit.

Good idea to stay before and after cruise.

As for the tickets, we are hoping they will be upgradable but likely won't be able to find out until we get there an actually try to do this.

I am willing to bet that you need to at least check-in. If no one checks in(PIF or not) Disney may cancel the whole reservation, keep the penalty fees and open up the room. Based on the rules of the contest, you may have a big issue if the TA finds out, which they will if ressie was cancelled by disney. If you check in, disney could care less if you are staying in the room, they have their $$.
