so I am thinking abut DVC with an initial buy in of 100 points and while there is no real incentives except it being cheaper for now. wondering wht you all think of this? I realize I will most likely buy an add'l 100 points later but it kind of defers the cost and then in a couple of years I will have 2 100's. does anyone know.. when I buy an ad on can I buy at my home resort or what they will be selling at that time? does anyone foresee any problems with only 100 points (for now) I realize no 1 0r 2 bedroom but I think it's a great way to get our feet wet. also, is it common to have specials for existing members for add ons purchases?

100 points would be a great way to get your feet wet. Though I beleive through Disney the minimum purchase is 160, a 100 point contract could be purchased via resale. Don't forget that 100 points can give you 300 points every third year or 200 every other year. As far as add ons....you can request an add on to your home resort or any other resort. Good luck........

for a limited time they are offering an initial buy in @ 100 points.. no gift card bonus but I'm thinking a great way to start

With no incentives, seriously consider buying resale. there are good contracts to be had in the $80s per point. Net of closing costs, you could save yourself somewhere around $1,800 on the deal vs. paying full $104 direct purchase costs. Something to think about....

sorry the price is $96.00 per point. is this still a good deal or woud you still go resale?

Study up on the different resorts, and decide which one is the one where you would most like to stay on most of your trips. Your "home resort" is the only place you will have the advantage of the 11-month booking window.

If AKV is where you would most like to be, you probably will do just about as well purchasing direct. If you find one of the other resorts more appealling, you can probably do better on the resale market. (The same money you would spend "direct" on AKV might buy you 120 or more points on some of the other resorts.) Pay attention to the "expiration dates," though, if that is important to you.

This is similar to what we are planning to do when we buy. We are buying 50 points at BCV and banking & borrowing to be able to go every 17 - 19 months. We plan to stay in a 1 BR in May and a studio in Oct. 5 nights each.

Good luck!

We have 100 points and it works out for us just great!

We travel mostly in adventure season, usually stay in studios, BUT NOT ALWAYS, and try to stay away from weekends. We've even taken extended family and also had points transferred into our account.

I think its really important to consider either AKV, BWV, or OKW for more reasonable point charts. I'm sure that we'll eventually stay at BCV, VWL, or SSR but for now we can't justify the higher point values at these resorts without getting a boardwalk view.

Since purchasing in January '06, we have...

3 nts. HH studio in Nov. '06 [Fri. Cash $81, Sat & Sun. Pts.)
5 nts. BWV 2 bdrm (BW View) Apr. '07
5 nts. BWV studio (Preferred) Apr. '07 [Transferred pts.]
4 nts. BWV studio Jan. '08 [Fri-Sun Std; Mon. BW]
4 nts. HHI Nov. '08 [2nts. studio; 2nts 1bdrm - wknd/wkdy - 1 night cash]
5 nts. BWV Studio [BW View] Mar. '09
5 nts. BWV Studio [BW View] Mar. '09 [We actually need to cancel this one.]

We had to borrow some points from '10 for the last 2 reservations, but still have some '10 points left. If you ask me that is a lot of vacationing. Yeah, there are a lot of studio nights on there, but you'll also notice some 1 and 2 bedrooms, and some wknd nights. For the Jan. '08 trip, we decided to wrap a weekend so we decided to stay in a std. studio instead of going for a Preferred 1 bedroom during the week. You'll also notice that we like to combine with DVC cash at HH. There is nothing like taking a small vacation for $81.

thanks... I'm really leaning towards this but part of me wants to buy the 160 points for the incentives and we can stay at 1 & 2 bedrooms more often. does anyone think there will be a better incentive later on in the year or is this is as good as it gets?
