I am on the internet constantly trying to find a great deal on airfare and I can never seem to get the deals alot of you find. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I check all the Orbitz and Travelocity like sites and also the Airlines websites theirselves and nothing. I am starting to get really frustrated because I spend alot of time trying to get a good fare. Although I am happy for all of you that do get a great fare I am also very jealous. Please are there tips that I should know like when the airlines change the fares and so on. Here are my dates in case anyone should know of a great deal and by great I mean for at least $100 to $150 a ticket without having to stop for a long period of time if there should happen to be at least 1 stop.

There are 4 of us 2 adults and 2 children
We can leave either out of SDF or CVG
Our dates are July 17 check in and July 23 check out

I really hope someone can help me. I am at a totally frustrating loss. All of my other planning is done and all that is left is transportation and I feel like I just hit a wall. Thank you to all who can help.

For the very best deals, the trick is to let the airfare determine your dates. At this point, it looks like you can't do that, so you'll have to stick to alternative strategies.

For those airports, make sure that you are on the email lists for Southwest and Delta. It also does not hurt to sign up for the Travelocity Fare Watcher, though that does not notify you about Southwest sales. Another good site I like that will let you plug in all sorts of options is itasoftware.com. You cannot buy on that site, but if you see a good fare there, copy down the detailed info, then go to the airline's own site and you can usually get the fare by pinpointing the flights. I just got a great fare that way a few days ago on AA for a quick trip the first week in May.

A couple of general tips: don't price fares on weekends (you can fly on a weekend, just don't buy on a weekend). Flying on Tues, Wed, Thur, or Sat. is usually going to be the cheapest. A Saturday night stay is usually important for lower fares, too. The fare sales usually come out around midnight on Monday, so early Tuesday morning is usually a good time to buy.

Check Northwest. Northwest has round-trip flights out of CVG for your dates for $130.19.
