Is there really no discounts for purchases under 100 points?

We are looking at adding on but are waiting for the webcast to see incentives being offered. We have a dec UY and waiting patiently to see the offers, would like to add points at the end of my UY (assuming they would let me bank the '09 points).

I would like to add on 50-60 points but it looks like there are no incentives for that.

We have a cruise and THV stay coming up in a few weeks, and if we really like the THV, we might just buy a 100 point SSR resale rather then 60 BLT points for the same cost!

It's odd. It appears that DVC is pushing those wanting less than 100 points to the resale market.

When is the webcast? I saw something somewhere about one coming up, but didn't have time to follow through then. I'd love to sign up for it, but can't seem to find the link anymore.

That's not odd at all. Traditionally, DVC has had minimum purchase levels for new purchasers and minimal, if any, discounts for small add-ons by existing members. DVC has a limited number of BLT points to sell (about 40% or less of the total), and they are naturally going to maximize their profit margin.

Especially if someone is only thinking of buying <100 points, I think they have to expect to pay the full retail price...which at BLT is currently $120 per point.

An optimist would say, "Hey, I'm saving $10 per point from the price on Dec 1st!"

If you haven't already, I suggest you call your Guide and ask him or her what the price is. Sources like the Disboards and DVCNews are usually reliable but incentives change frequently. For example, in September it was widely reported that DVD was offering an additional $2/point discount, but only for 100 points or more. However, when I contacted my Guide, I discovered this $2 discount was also available on 50 point contracts. Good luck!!

I contacted my guide about the additional $2 off and was told yes when I called. Then they called back the next day to say the $2 off was only on 100 points or more.

When did you talk to your Guide? I called my Guide on 9/30/2010 and got the additional $2 off on a 50-point BLT add-on, which reduced the price from $114 to $112/point. The only quirky thing about the offer was that we had to do the transaction through the mail. We were at WDW at the time and I was willing to walk into the DVC Sales Center at SSR, but my Guide said that if I walked into the Center the best offer I would get would be $114/point.

BTW, we've already closed on this point purchase. The deed has been filed with Orange county as well. wdrl is my DH.

That was approx 9/16 or 9/17 I believe- just a day or two after I heard about the promotion. I was in the process of a 70 pt add on (paperwork not signed yet - had just received it in the mail after waiting two weeks for it). At first my guide knew nothing about it. Then it was said it had some other conditions which I can't recall right now. Then it was a yes, it would apply to me. Until 24 hours later when it was a no.

Congrats to you for getting it but things like that bother me - YKWIM?

I have not closed yet - sat on the paperwork awhile after that trying to decide if I really ought to do this add on and then had a few other life things come up that delayed it.

Yes, it is confusing, and sometimes it doesn't seem fair. The only thing I would say about your situation is to call your Guide again and ask him to clarify your situation. I feel fortunate that my Guide seems knowledgeable about offers and is easy to talk to (too easy, at times, if you know what I mean!). Hope it works out for you! Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestion and luck. Unfortunately from all of my dealings with my guide I know them well enough to know that it will not happen. I had contemplated changing guides awhile ago but had thought I was done with purchases. It's always been a struggle with them to get things that other's get immediately - such as breaking up a contract. I'm supposedly one of the special few they made an exception for.

IF I ever decide on any more points it will be with a different guide though. :sad2:
