I keep reading about people who say that they had to drain the Mickey pool because parents put their little kids in there with inappropriate diapers which causes poop in the pool. That is just plain disgusting and I dont and unsanitary. :sad2:I am afraid of letting my son play in the pool and end up sick from this. Is this a common thing and should I keep my son away from the Mickey pool? He is 6 years old so is he old enough to go to another pool or is the Mickey pool for his age group??:confused3

This has happened on every cruise that we have been on at least once if not more:scared1::scared1:

CDC regulation says that diapers are NOT allowed in the pool, even swim diapers. Because of this, some people just take their kids diapers off because their little precious just can't miss out, even though they are not potty trained. I'm sure most people have common sense, but it only takes one floater to ruin it for everyone. :rolleyes1

Just saying... I wouldn't go in there, plenty of other things to do

Never allow you child to put their head underwater and promptly shower after swimming including disinfecting the hands that frequently go into the mouth and eyes. I don't think it is all the parents fault. They want their kids to enjoy the cruise and for some reason little kids like to poop at anytime.

Kids in diapers of any kind are not allowed in any of the pools, but unfortunately people decide the rules don't apply to them so they let their not-potty-trained kids in anyway. And then they have to empty and drain the pool, stopping the fun for everyone.

Your six-year-old can also go in the family pool, but there's no guarantee someone won't bring an untrained child into that pool, either.

Unfortunately, its an issue. We spent more time sitting by the Mickey pool with it closed and being cleaned than we did in it. Although, we still talk and laugh about the incidents that occurred with guests being called out of the pool and several cast members coming over to the pool to carefully look at an object to determine if it indeed was poop. Once a cast member had to call over another cast member to consult. It looked like a CSI investigation. We still laugh about this.

:lmao: Tee hee... I can't help it. That is hilarious. I have one potty-trained kid and one not so I think we'll all stay out of the Mickey pool altogether this trip. Based on the size I'm guessing the water to um... other stuff... ratio is just a little too high for my OCD tendencies. At least the poop clumps are visible. I can just imagine what else is lurking in those waters. :scared1:

I made my kids wait until our 2nd to last day before I let them go in the pools. I wanted to make sure we got in all of our planned excursions, spa, etc. before I exposed the kids to the germy pools. Literally, 20 minutes after they got in they had to get out because someone pooped in the pool. So gross. Some days when we walked by the Mickey pool, it looked more brownish than white. I have one child in diapers still but we respect the rules and he only used the separate splash area. He was able to swim at one of the resorts during an excursion so he wasn't missing out on anything, plus we have a pool at home so it isn't a huge deal to us. I wish everyone would follow the rules, but you are always going to have those few rule breakers or the few potty trained kids that have an accident. I can say the chlorinate the heck out of those pools though. The kids spent about an hour in the goofy pool and I have never seen their eyes so red from chlorine.

This is a picture of the Mickey pool (on the Wonder) on our first full day of the cruise. It was about 10:00 in the morning, and they already had the pool closed. :rolleyes1

I've heard a few stories on here about the Mickey Pool and some parents that think the rules don't apply to them.

I hope most follow the rules. I know children that are newly trained might have accidents with all the excitement and stuff, but it sounds like it's much younger children that are causing it to close for cleaning.

I think it is definitely the parents fault! The parents need to be responsible for their own children. If the kids are not potty trained then they need to wear proper diapers and if it is not allowed by Disney then DONT PUT YOUR KIDS IN THE POOL!! It's not fair to the rest of the people. My kid shouldnt get sick because you had to put your little darling in the pool!!

So it looks like my child will have a better chance of not getting sick from feces in the pool if he sticks to the family pool and the Nemo water play area right?

Unfortunately, when they close the Mickey pool, those folks just transfer the kids to the family pool.

The pools were closed a number of times on our last cruise and it was also due to kids getting sick in the pool (which I never really thought would happen).

I guess I'm in the minority. I've been on 7 DCL cruises and I've never seen the Mickey pool closed. I do not use the pools but I do walk the open decks several times per day.

We have been on 9 so far and never saw any pools closed. Then again my kids are getting older so we don't spend much time there, kind of passing through.
I do agree with pp about it being up to the parents to know their child's abilities. Kids don't just poop anytime, babies & toddlers that aren't potty trained do. Young kids that are newly trained should be questioned frequently if they need to go find a potty, just like if they were playing at home.
On our last Dream cruise, a parent put her infant (prob around 12 mos) in the Mickey pool. It wouldn't affect my own children but sometimes I just can't shut up. It's just not right so I alerted a CM. Who wants to pay all that money to swim in a giant toilet? :headache:

Good for you for telling a CM!:thumbsup2 I will do the same if I see a parent being irresponsible. I just dont think it's fair to put other people's kids' health at risk just because you do not want to follow rules.:sad2:

My GD was the cause for the pool to be closed one time. She had a double ear infection, had no pain just suddenly upchucked in the pool. There were 2 other children in there. My DD told a CM and they had the other children get out and throughly rinse in the showers.
The CM had the Medical people come and examine her.
We were so sorry to have caused that but we would have never knowingly let her swim knowing she was ill.
