Is there really a poop problem in the Mickey pool ??

At the resorts they allow swim diapers. I wonder what the issue is on the ship? It has been my experience that the swim diapers contain solid messes. The occassional accident happens at the resorts also but they just "nuke" the water to bring the chlorine level up, close the pool x number of hours and reopen. So what is the issue on the ships?

As part of it's Vessel Sanitation Program, the CDC prohibits diapers in all cruise ship pools that dock in the US. It's really not the solid part you have to worry about. When the water goes through the diaper, it washes EVERYTHING out with it.

Because the ships empty the water into the ocean they cannot use the chemicals such as chlorine like they do on land.

Over on cruise critic, swim diapers are called "fecal teabags". Most people over there won't go in the pools.

Quick question--is the water on the Mickey slide and/or in the toddler splash zone the same water circulating through the Mickey pool? Whether yes or no, do people have the same concerns about germs in that water? I was already planning on having my kids avoid the Mickey pool, but I'm wondering if I should extend that to the slide and splash area too. Seems like it would be pretty tough to avoid water in the eyes/mouth when you are on the slide. Thanks!

So only potty trained kids who dont wear diapers (not even swim diapers) are allowed in all of the pools on board, right? Just want to make sure what the rules are so if I see a parent not obeying, I can let a CM know. Yes, I will be a tattletale when it comes to health-related issues.:snooty::magnify:

Good question. Where is the toddler splash zone? That Nemo area?:confused3

It is really gross that parents can not understand the health issues to others when their uu-potty trained child poops in the pool. There are rules for a reason. It is one thing if you let your child in your own home pool just not a public one. So sorry to be so blunt, but adults should follow the rules.

I will say that if the Mickey slide is running and Nemo's reef is operational, and the Mickey pool is drained and being cleaned, then yes they are separate IMO.
And I would think they all have separate filtration, cleaning, chemical treatment and pump systems IMO since some area's are for potty trained and some not.

However, the extent to which they share water supply and drainage system's, no one on here will be able to answer that. Nor will the Shoreside CM's be able to accurately and honestly tell you IMO.
Only the Ship's Engineer's onboard will.

Great question, anyone have the answer?

This whole issue makes me so angry and grosses me out! I am so happy and excited to go on my cruise I can't even tell you!!! I was very much looking forward to spending pool time with my family. I am normally happy, friendly and outgoing...check any of my posts, this is my first and hopefully my last angry post. Sorry for most reading this...this is only ment to offend a few!

I know these fellow GROSS cruisers have paid just about what I have paid for my cruise.....but for Pete's Sake! As parents we all give up things because we have a child too young at one time in their lives or another. That is what you are supposed to do. Why does the whole ship have to suffer because 20 parents are attempting to teach their 6 month old how to swim?!?! Do that AT HOME at your local pool! Isn't that why they built Nemo's reef, IN THE SHADE for little ones who can't swim and have tender skin....AND are NOT Potty Trained?!?! Why doesn't Disney just say due to health issues..children this age and younger are not allowed in the pool. It's not that the swim diapers are or are not allowed in the pool...it's the child that would have to wear a swim diaper.....meaning if you are not potty trained and under say age 3(yes I know there are children 2 and 3 who are potty trained, but just throwing an age out there, sadly I don't make the rules), no pool for you. The child isn't going to care, they can go play at Nemo's reef.....I know mine wouldn't have cared. I would be so mortified if I was that parent that skirted the rules and it was my child who ruined the pool for 4000 other people! :scared:

So Is there an age limit or is Disney just being too PC and they just mention the swim diapers? Trust me, I would be the first person to jump the heck out of the pool and tattle!

As it stands right now, I have let my 10year old and 7year old read this board and because of those few GROSS parents (not talking about the child that got sick and threw-up...come on that happens and it's not a normal everyday function) my children will not get to enjoy the pool. I have had to let them know ahead of time so they know the answer is no. This has become a learning lesson on why everyone should follow the rules...and for you parents who DO BREAK THE RULES and put your non-potty trained child into the pool...Thanks, I will expect my refund for not being able to enjoy a part of my cruise because of you, to come directly from you! Rude as a smoker on a balcony (and yes, I smoke on occasion, NEVER on a cruise! Whole other can of worms, I know!)

Sorry for the rant, but this issue just really got to me!

Yes, only potty trained kids who don't wear diapers (swim or otherwise) are allowed in the pools. Except the adult-only pool.

I really don't understand what's wrong with these parents that they let kids who are not potty-trained in the pools. I've been on many different cruise lines and seen parents doing this, but they usually have the 'excuse' that there is no other place for their child to swim. Nt that I agree with that, but on Disney this is ABSOLUTELY not the case! Disney has freaking splash areas for the diaper set! Why can these parents not keep non-potty trained kids in those splash areas? It's unbelievable!

Here's a potential solution... Kids in the Oceaneer's Club have to be PT'd. Don't they all have a bracelet (or they could be given a bracelet if not). Why not have a CM at the Mickey and family pool doing a bracelet check? Small kids without bracelets are not allowed in these pools at all. Ever.

LOVE this idea! It's not about being fair or excluding...it's about germs and disease control! Same as washing hands before going into kids clubs, cooks washing hands before cooking and serving etc....

15 cruises, 3 with Disney, all but two of those 15 cruises with young children in tow and only once, one day have I seen a pool closed due to this issue (it was a hot tub) and it was only closed for a couple of hours and we live in the pools with our kids during these cruises. Honestly, I think the norm is the pools being open, just those who are vocal are the ones who have seen this happen.

One cruise, with an un-potty trained kid, we brought our own little wading pool, filled it with water from the shower, and let our kid play in that. We were kind of scolded by some of the deck crew for taking up too much room on the deck (on the back, uncrowded deck in a pool that was maybe a two-foot radius and took up no more space than a deck chair). This was not a Disney ship mind you, but a different brand. On Disney, the splash pool area is pretty convenient.

What bugs me about all of this is that in the swim diaper threads, everyone says "rules are rules" and "why can't people just follow the rules" but many times, rules aren't rules. Disney's better about this than most lines, but other lines let 8, 9 and 10 year olds run wild on the deck with no parental supervision or will let them jump at will into the pool. I just don't understand why ALL rules can't be followed. My guess is some of the same people here who complain about the swim diaper crowd are also the ones asking about having a "mature 17 year old about to turn 18" or "can I wear nice jeans to the dining room?"

Again, Disney's much better about following all rules than other cruise lines.

What a GREAT idea about the wading pool!!! If I was next to you, I would have told the cruise staff to let you keep it! I totally get what you are saying about the people who like some rules, but expect others to be bent. I feel the same way! I follow the rules everytime because they are there for a reason. If I don't like it, too bad, I read the cruise contract, and agreed to it by cruising! I also make my kids do so. When they see kids running a muck (a muck, a muck a muck...shout out to Hocus Pocus! :rolleyes1) I tell them that those kids arn't following the rules and their parents don't care, sorry for you that your parents do. What's right is right, what's wrong is wrong. Black and white no grey area! We are all on vacation to enjoy and have fun and everyone following the rules allows that experience.

Very glad to hear that Poo in the Pool hasn't been a part of too many of your cruise experiences. I hope we are as lucky, but being DH is a HUGE germaphobe...and who am I kidding, I guess I am too...we are still gonna skirt the pools and head to the water play areas. I have not been on a Disney cruise yet, so I am speaking from a point of only what I have read on this thread and others. Thank you very much for adding an even keel to this thread! :worship:

So is that Nemo water play area safer then?:confused3

Safer than what? The Mickey slide, Mickey pool, Goofy/Donald pool?

All of the pool's and water slide water is treated and filtered. All of those pool's will have children urinating in them, and some of them with children defecating in them.
Also the Quiet Cove pool will most likely have people urinating in it.

Not much different than any other public pool on land, or maybe your friends or neighbors! (I wonder how often people drain and scrub their pool's after having friends or neighbors round, adult and kids?)

A piece of faeces being visible or color contamination due to the aforementioned will result in any pool being shut down.
The CDC require it, and regularly inspect the filters, the proper amount of chlorine is being added, the pumps to make sure they are functioning properly and are kept working well and hygienically.

LOL! Ok, call me rude or untoward, but I was thinking the same thing for the quiet cove pools!! :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Nothing new people break rules all the time and then get ticked off when they get caught. Many people feel the rules only apply to other people not them.

Swim Diapers just don't buldge and fill with water like regular diapers. All swim clubs require plastic pants over the diaper to contain leakage. Parents need to realize that e coli bacteria can make kids and adults sick and even kill. :scared1:

Our private pool requires plastic pants and we always have to close the pool for accidents. Go figure. Our pool allows babies in the baby pool and T pool. All the kids that swallow water and spit it out. When you get sick in the summer think pool!
