I'm a little depressed as I will be turning 40 years old this May and am not looking forward to it. What happened to my 30's? I'd swear I turned 31 just yesterday, blinked and here I am standing on the "edge" at 39! Please someone tell me that there is some good in turning 40.......

I guess I should enjoy my last few months in my 30's....maybe you are only as old as you feel....and hopefully look the same too!

Depressed mom from NC:(

I'm 43, and will be 44 this year - single mom of two teens....

Life is good after 40, believe me. :sunny:

Treat yourself to something nice - you deserve it.

Nope. Game over. It's all downhill from now on. :earseek:

Just kidding. I know how you feel. I look in the mirror and don't recognize the person looking back at me. It seems like the seasons just fly by these days. The best part about turning 40 is that you are still around to turn 40. There have been plenty of people here on the DIS who didn't live to see their 40th.

This day in May that you are dreading is just another day. Carpe Diem.

I look at it this way, I'm *so blessed* to have "made it" to 40! Lot's of people don't!!! ::yes::

I'll be 42 in July!!

I just turned 40 three weeks ago. It's not so bad...zzzz. What the? Oh, sorry, I dozed off there for a second. Now, as I was saying, the best type of pizza is made with a combination of cheeses. Um, we were talking about pizza weren't we? Jeez, I'm just falling apart! I'm heading downhill fast toward certain doom! What? We were talking about turning 40? Sorry, my hearing isn't as good as it used to be. Yes, I would love four tees. Thank you.

I turned 40 last July and I am very proud to say it. I have now outlived John Lennon, Mozart, Jim Morrison, John Belushi, and many former child stars ;) . Another two years and I will have outlived Elvis.
How birthdays affect you differs with everyone. I have a dear friend who was very depressed when she hit 40. Birthdays don't bug me, but new year's eve always gets me depressed (except for this last one at WDW, go figure). I hope your depression lifts soon and you can look on the bright side.

Life over 40 is good. The only drawbacks are that I forget what I've already said and repeat myself a lot.

The great part about turning 40 is that you ARE turning 40.....consider the alternative.

I turned 40 last April. I have a one year old that keeps me very young. 40 is FABULOUS!

Yes, as I always respond to people who kid me about my age: it's better than the alternative of not aging!

With a two and a half year old and an eight month old, I fluctuate between feeling like I'm in my 20s to my 70s. As the old cliche goes, you're as young as you feel.

Cadburysmom, I understand completely because I will be 40 in April. I am depressed about it too. Forty just sounds so old. :( I am thinking about taking a trip for my birthday, maybe WDW. It would be difficult for me to be sad at WDW. ::yes::

Strut your stuff woman! :teeth: Put those yunguns' to shame and outrace them all!:teeth: Be a kid at WDW!:teeth: Do those waterslides baby! Knock em' out! :teeth: Show em' all up! :teeth:

I will be 42 this year....life is great after 40......you really do learn
that it's the little things that mean the most to you...not money or material goods.........

(and a periodic trip to WDW doesn't hurt either!!)

I dreaded my 40th, but once it passed, I was fine. I did spend my 40th in Magic Kingdom..started with Cinderella's b-fast and ended with an e-night...perfect day!

Do something special for yourself!!!

40 is no big deal,,,have you seen the mickeymobile.....would you guess that the owner of it will be 46 next week.....LOL

of course since the age of 16 I've believed that women over 40 are the best...

I turned 46 last October and being in your 40's is wonderful, I am having the best time of my life right now, remember age is just a number, it doesn't control your life.

I have a very good friend who also was very depressed at turning forty.. so she decided to have a b'day party and turn 53, (not sure how she came up with that number, anyway.). so we all celebrated her 53rd b'day and she feels that when she really turns 53 and has a party to celebrate turning 40 it won't seem so bad then..
Does that make sense??

Anyway when i turned 40.. I had a great party and just showed everyone how inmature a 40 year old can be LOL..I can get older but who says I have to grow up..:teeth:

 :earsgirl:

Turning the next 0 is difficult, especially past 30. However, the decade of the 40's has been enlightening so far, to say the least. I still feel and look youthful and am able to face the future with much more experience (and some wisdom I hope).

Keep an optimistic heart and you'll find it's not all that bad.

:earseek: I sure hope there is life after 40, considering I'm 54 :earseek:

Your age is just a number. You are as young as you feel, hokey but true :)
