Is there free internet access in DVC rooms?

Hi,

We are about to make our first trip 'home' in fact we leave a week today I thought I'd read that there was to be free internet access to DVC members starting 2008, can anyone confirm this or was I dreaming

It is starting in 2008, but not January 2008. It is scheduled to begin sometime this Spring, after some "system enhancements."

Even though it wasn't officially supposed to start yet, we were not charged for the internet at BWV last week. YMMV

We were at SSR last week and had to pay for internet access.

I didn't pay at BWV or SSR a few weeks ago. BWV's just didn't charge me. SSR wanted to but didn't because I was told I wouldn't be by the internet connection people at Disney while on property.Yeah!!!

We stayed at BWV the week before Christmas and had to pay. I am glad that you don't anymore. I won't be going back until September so by then it should all be in place.

We just got back from our MLK week vacation at OKW and they didn't charge us for internet. I brought my wireless access point and everyone was able to hook their laptops up all week.

I was also told by our VCG (we just bought 250 this week at AKL) that it is supposed to be free everywhere starting 1-1-2008 and if we get charged to contact him because they have been told it is active now and maybe some resorts are screwed up in their billing still.

So, nobody should pay and if you do get charged, talk to them about it.

I was in BWV last week and was told at checkin that we would not be charged. When we got our bill there was a charge listed for it. I called and complained that I had specificallly asked at checkin and was told it was free for DVC members. At first they said there was nothing they could do but I was persistant that I had specifically asked. They finally relented and said they were going to remove the charge but I haven't checked with my credit card company yet to see if they did.

I was charged and paid for one day of internet at BWV last week. The other days I tagged onto some open Wi-Fi connections for free. I am hoping that it is free when we go on Mar. 8.

If you are a DVC member.. don't pay it and don't let them tell you that you have to.. In fact while we were there, it was making us authorize the computer once a day for about 1/2 the stay and said it was going to charge us 10.00 but when we got our bill.. no charge..

They told us at the main DVC sales office that it was effective for all the DVC resorts and if you got charged to call them on it. I told them about people getting charged and they told me that if that happened to ask to speak with a manager. Worst case, contact MS or the DVC sales office..

The Guides and sales office really have nothing to do with resort operations. The "official" word from the DVC Member website:

Daily Internet charge to be discontinued this spring
Based on Member feedback, the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World® Resort is slated to be discontinued once system enhancements are in place this spring. Guests renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access charges still apply to Members staying at non-Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

In related news, plans call for wireless service debut inside vacation homes at Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort sometime this year. Look for updates on this Web site as new details become available.

This is AWESOME. I work at home for my job and have fairly lenient conditions with my boss. As long as I have internet access and a phone, I can work. It's one of the things that has kept me from taking off a day early and going to Disney in the past because I'm not paying 10/day for access personally and the co won't pay for that.

This would allow me to "work" from Disney and not have to take a vacation day off and leave on our trips a day or so ahead of time if we want and I can hang in the room while the family goes to to the pool, DTD, etc and then on breaks go meet them for lunch or whatever and then slide out early for a park trip that evening. This is GREAT news for me.
