Is there Covid in your circle?

Will keep you posted - perhaps the first person I know to have Covid will be me. :rolleyes1 I'm being tested this afternoon, out of an abundance of caution. I received a Shingrex vaccination last Friday and I have not felt right since. Practically all of the side effects of the shingles vaccine is also a symptom of Covid. I'm not aware of having been in contact with any active Covid infections but I have to be sure. It took me 3 minutes to have a test scheduled on-line and the results should be back within 36 hours. I am alone at my worksite now and have made arrangements to stay home tomorrow while I await the results. If positive, I will be legally required to isolate for 10 days from yesterday, providing all symptoms resolve within that time. I will also have to list my close contacts for the authorities, which is pretty simple since I haven't been with anyone except my household and people in my office since we were put on lock-down in November.
I am due for the shingles vaccine and asked about it this summer at my check up. My doctor advised holding off for this very reason. I bet you'll be fine. Fingers crossed for you!

I will answer yes to the question but can I just say that my circle is more like an Octagon and has been for awhile.

Wishing you the best. DH had every side affect from the shingles vax and they lasted about a week. He was sick enough to stay home. Hopefully your symptoms are from the vaccine.
Hope you are ok. I have heard of people feeling really icky and fatigued after the Shingles vaccine so there is a decent chance it's that, fingers crossed!

PS- just occurred to me what a weird time we live in if we are rooting for vaccine malaise.

:flower3: Thank you everyone. I've been vaccinated for everything including regular tetanus boosters and an annual flu shot. Bar none, this is the worst I've ever experienced. My arm killed me almost instantly afterwards and the lump and hot redness grew over two days to the size of my palm. Fatigue, headache and general achiness kicked in on Day 2 and it's better now (6 days post-shot), but not gone entirely.

The fact that Covid symptoms are similar to so many other things, well, it really does a number on your head. All I can think about is infecting my office - I've really seen nobody else except my household for a really long time.

The test was conducted at a drive-thru centre and was very efficient - less than 2 minutes including the ID check and screening questions. I got the throat swab (2nd time I've been tested and have avoided the nasal brain probe both times). Results will be returned shortly and I've been "registered" as being in mandatory quarantine until a negative result is returned. Best-case-scenario is I'll be back to work on Monday.

If it is positive, that opens up some very perplexing questions about where I got it. Either someone at my office is an asymptomatic spreader or my own DH is. The only other possibility is having contracted it from brief, limited contact during shopping. I'm in a store about 3 times a week but always masked and distanced, as is everybody else here and the cashiers are alwasy behind plastic. :scratchin

I hope it is just vaccine related. I had the first dose of the shingrix vaccine in late October and the pharmacist warned me that the side effects mimic Covid symptoms and that if I felt the need to test in the week afterwards I should definitely tell my doctor about the vaccination. I had a bit of a sore arm, but nothing major. I was told, however, that more people react to the second dose than the first. It is time for the 2nd dose for me and I am trying to find a time that wouldn’t be too inconvenient to lay low for a few days if I feel terrible.

Here we do not access testing through doctors. It is an on-line self-referral system open to anyone and all tests are administered at public centres operated by our Provincial Health Authority. I received the Shingrix vaccine at a pharmacy and went back to them on Day 3 post-shot to have them look at my huge, red lump; the pharmacist said the symptoms should resolve very shortly but they haven't. I work outside my home and am just too paranoid about infecting my co-workers to not need the reassurance of a negative test.

CDC recently updated its recommendations with regard to the counseling information that should be provided to patients by healthcare providers about receiving Shingrix during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The gist of it is that adults 50 and older should still receive two doses of Shingrix within the recommended 2-6 month interval unless someone has a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection. The doses should not be delayed during this pandemic. Shingrix reactions may mimic some, but not all, COVID-19 symptoms. CDC said that Shingrix reactions specifically do not include the respiratory symptoms associated with COVID-19 to include shortness of breath and coughing. CDC said that Shingrix can cause redness, swelling, etc. at the injection site as well as fevers, chills, or headaches that normally go away within three days. It further recommended that if a fever develops after a Shingrix vaccination, patients should stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing meds.

Here’s a link to the CDC’s FAQ page about Shingrix. The info about Shingrix and COVID-19 is at the bottom.

Well, add my husband’s parents and brother to the covid-positive list. The likely pathway is my brother-in-law’s gym, which has had a few cases linked now, but could be from anything because they haven’t really tampered down on their normal actions.

Plus my aunt and uncle, one of their kids, and my uncle’s mom. These are all people we would normally see, but haven’t in a while. They’ve been pretty cautious, so they either got it from work (via uncle) or school (via the kids or my aunt, who is a teacher), unless they picked it up from grocery pickup.

(Unrelated- I had shingles at 29, and im dying for an under-50 shingles vaccine!)

My doctor also advised that we wait on the Shingles vaccine until next year. @ronandannette: hope all goes well with your test results and that you feel better soon!

 Best of luck that the lesser of the two possibilities being the root cause.

OK, so the results were texted to me by our provincial health authority quicker than I expected. Negative!! What a relief. Now that I know for sure I can go ahead and slam a bunch of Advil and take a nap and try to shake this vaccine funk. My next dose is scheduled in 7 weeks and regardless of the discomfort, I'll be there with bells on, same as when my turn for the Covid vaccine comes. :goodvibes

Thank goodness, you must be so very relieved. These days I'm thrilled for every bit of good news.

My brother in law was hospitalized last week with covid. He had been ill since Christmas but refused to get treatment after testing positive. His doctor urged him to report to a hospital but he is a big time conspiracy guy and said it was just a plot by hospitals to get his money. He started to hallucinate and throwing things around his house and his wife finally got him to a hospital. We was stabilized and sent via ambulance to a Covid center in Worcester, Massachusetts where he stayed a week. He got home yesterday but he is a mess. His wife was positive too but only lost her sense of smell and taste.
