Hi Everyone,

DH and I have decided to buy. I'm nervous and excited it all at once:goodvibes (Which is really good for my house and I clean like crazy when I'm nervous:rotfl: ) We had wanted to wait and buy AKL but SSR is such a good deal right now.

So, my question is, as a newbie buying for the first time is there anything I should know?

Thank you in advance and thank you for all your posts as I've been lurking :rotfl: and learning!

That all depends on what you know already. Don't forget about the Referral program at SSR.....$86pp with a member referral. Ask direct questions, the other members on this board are great and are very willing to help. You will learn more here then your guide will ever tell you.
Good luck in your purchase......:thumbsup2

The one thing I wish I knew prior to purchasing our first contract was to only purchase the minimum required 150 points, since add-on discounts and incentives have been great since our initial purchase in May 2004. Our effective cost per point for subsequent contracts has been significantly better than our first purchase.

That said, the current friends and family promotion is a great deal and may be one of the last promotions for SSR before it sells out.

I agree about asking specific questions!

Everyone here is willing to help out as much as possible.

If your very interested definitely use a member referral to save the $15 per point!

Don't forget, the promotion ends Jan 20th.

Look at the point charts here to figure out apx how many points you would need to vacation during a certain time frame.

For instance, we travel the first week of Dec every year and need a 2 bedroom, so at our home resort of SSR it would cost us 189 points for 6 nights.

We mistakenly told ourselves that we wouldn't want to stay on the weekends b/c of the high cost of points (double than a weeknight) and only originally purchased 175 points. We figured we could borrow to make up the difference and then skip a year.

Well after our first trip home we realized that we didn't want to leave that wonderful 2 bedroom! So we came home and did an add on two months later.

Then, after our second trip home we brought Grandma and Grandpa to WDW for the first time, we stayed a full week. We decided that we needed more points again b/c we could never skip a year!

Well, now here it is, we just got back from our third trip home and purchased APs. Well, since we now have APs, we can go more often! But we just don't have enough points, so we're getting ready to do another add-on!

Now, if we had really thought long and hard about how much we would want to go to WDW and how long/how many trips we'd take, we should have purchased more upfront.

But we've been very blessed..... We're not paying tons more per point than we did in 2004 and we've paid off every loan within a year.

So, really think about when you would travel and how big of a room you would need. Know that if you start with a studio and then try a 1 bedroom many say there's no going back!

Also, if you're interested in a large amount of points, break them up into smaller contracts. For example, break 300 points into two 150 contracts. The bigger the contract the harder it may be to sell down the road if necessary.

Good luck with your decision and ask away!
