Is there anything to request at the resorts?

Hi, This is my first time posting on this board!

My 2.5 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Mastocytoma... and the quick response is that she can be allergic to anything at anytime. For example, she could eat a banana for 5 days in a row, and on the 5th day, she may have a reaction to it. Typically, she just gets hives around her mouth/face, we think her lips/tongue go a little tingly (she is 2.5 so its difficult for her to explain what she feels). There is the possibility that she would go anaphylaxis shock because of it, so we have epipens around all the time.

so on to my question... ;)

We are staying at POFQ on our next trip... is there anything I can/should request?

We aren't used to requesting anything because it is such an odd reaction, that she isn't specifically allergic to anything, but is basically allergic to the world.

Thanks for any assistance!!!

You could request an allergy cleaning, which would mean they would clean the room without using chemicals that commonly cause allergies.
Since you have no way of knowing what might cause a problem, that may not really help you at all. That's all I can think of that might became help.

Is it better to stick to simple foods with few ingredients? If so they should be able to easily accomodate because they do have a kitchen and whole ingredients like eggs, chicken they can simply grill, etc. Any resort quick service and any table service should be able to make something simple for her to eat but the park quick services don't usually have ingredients to cook something special. They do have allergy safe chicken tenders in a number of locations that might work which are mainly chicken and brown rice but do have a few spices.

and that should work at Disney especially with the cleaning and eating aspect. I agree with getting the extra special cleaning of the room. Your request should be listed as medical reasons for it when you ask for it. I would still perhaps wipe down some areas in the room myself with sanitizer wipes (bring plenty with you) if she's not reactive to them.

Beyond that for the room resort, I would definitely get a stroller that has some kind of hood covering to it, if you don't have one already. Keep her covered from the world. Use saniterizer wipes with everything, if she's not allergic to them. Guard her as much as possible with shielding her from others like having someone in front of her and in back of her and even on the sides of her if there are enough in your party to do so. Be very careful in the restrooms. There are family restrooms which might help you more. Try to avoid contact on touching anything with her even if it's a souvenir at a gift shop. I would say let her look from a far with any Disney characters and I would avoid contact that way.

If you can bring simple stuff like granola bars and nuts (if that's alright) with you and such that you know has worked better for you at home then by all means do it for eating at the parks. I would consider using the resort food court a lot and bringing food into your room rather than eating in public. Just touching a table in a food court could set her off.

I think you will need a heightened awareness of her mouth area, etc. so you can catch the hives or whatever very quickly. Also, I feel you should not let her walk too much on her own anywhere including the resort room. I would just be on the safe side as much as possible. I would avoid any water rides or the pools.

Good luck and God bless.

This may have already been said and I missed it, but you can call and ask that only new sheets and pillows be used in your room. They do this very often for people with allergies. Also you can ask that they change the air filter in your room as well. When asking for the special cleaning be sure to tell them the seriousness of your child's issues. Also when you get the park be sure to stop by the guest services counter and tell them about it. They may be able to offer some help and advice.
