This has been a public service announcement.

Thank you.

;)

The house is over there.....

I believe you just took their stroller......

They're going to WDW in April......

And OMG that drives me insane too!!!!! its hard to take someone seriously when they can't spell!

I have to agree. Two others agree with me. This, too, concerns me.

well do I need to lay down, or lie down? :confused3

:rolleyes1

:dance3:

even if it sounds fancier? :rotfl2:

I know! You're not alone though...some of us still remember.

Spell check can only take a person so far... :3dglasses

sure I knew the difference..its thar, thar and thar..get it right Robo

thar be gold in them thar hills and if'n ya want, we all can go get us some and thar be no arguing over thar shares..we all share alike

as far as to,too and two goes..that is an easy fix..it isnt 2 much trouble to fix a problem when you dont know which 2 to use..just use 2 !

Another one: "Its" vs. "It's"

I learned this one in college when an instructor said she'd give an automatic F to any paper that mis-used the two words.

"Its" and "it's" gets on my nerves, especially with the apostrophe abuse I see everywhere.

"Hear" and "Here" is a new mix-up that I tend to see often.

Personally, I admit that I have trouble with "that" vs. "which." I think I used "that" correctly in my above paragraph. From what I understand, here is the correct difference:

The brown chair that's broken is in the dining room.
"Chair" is the direct object

The brown chair, which was given to me by my aunt, is broken.
"Chair" is the indirect object

Is that right? Can someone help me here? I've been struggling with this for years.

Thanks!

Compared to some other chat boards I visit, DisBoards members excel at spelling and grammer!

The thing that drives me nuts is the misuse of your and advice.

Your blouse is pretty.
You're going to the mall. You are is written you're not your. It is a contraction.

I need advise.
You need advice. I advise you to review your English lessons.

You're going to lose your mind if you think people will pay attention to such things these days, unfortunately. People are much too loose with their grammar. My mother was a stickler, as were the nuns who taught me. Don't even get me started on who/whom, he & I, etc., etc.

I'm going to have to think about these grammar and spelling issues while I'm eating at Ohana's, Jiko's, Boma's and Cinderella's's Royal's Table's.

This schoolteacher agrees with you!

My pet peeve is incorrect apostrophe use....and it's rampant. My DS#1 was in a pre-k class called "Explorers" last year. In EVERYTHING - including printed material from the school's main office and his group picture - it was written "Explorer's." Since they always used it as in, "The Explorers class is going to the zoo today," it completely drove me nuts. I know everyone is entitled to make a mistake (and heaven knows I do!), but if it's the official name of something, please make sure it's correct!!! Spell check has never picked up homophone issues, among other things. It's hard to convince my fourth graders (and their parents) of that, though....
