Is there any way to tell how many rooms are still available on a cruise?

I am reading about the upgrades, and was wondering how many Cat 10s are left on my cruise...I know it is a long way out, but...

Is there any way to see which cabins are available on a given cruise?

I used travelocity and acted like I was booking for my cruise and it will tell you what rooms are available.

No, not really. There are some sites that allow you to see groups of staterooms that are still available but they do not necessarily list ALL the staterooms that are still available.

I've noticed that the sites that do show staterooms always list 8 rooms. I guess if you are looking there is no way of knowing what rooms are available outside of those 8.

The list starts with the Best Locale and goes down from there. Like Midship would be a better location than the ends of the ship, so those staterooms would be listed first.
So if the only availability is the VERY Forward or Aft staterooms, They are at the tail end of cabin assignment availability, before it goes to Guarantee status and the ship is getting fuller.

peagreenid,
Not sure I really agree with rooms in the middle booking first. We were among the 1st to make our reservations for our October cruise, We made them in January. We just got our cruise documents Friday and are as far forward as you can get. I checked to see if we were on a full ship and we aren't. there is still plenty of availability. I was going to call and see if we could change rooms but decided I would live on the edge and see how we like it. I hope I don't live to regret not calling and changing our room #.

When you booked in January- Were you booked Guarantee or Cabin assignment? You should have been given a cabin number at the time that you booked. You are aware that you can book DCL about 2 years in advance. Are you sure you were one of the first to book?

Of course there are other things to factor into this.... the amount of passengers in your cabin. I know that my availability list for 4 passengers is greatly different from those that sleep 2 or 3.

When I booked last year for our September cruise, at 6 months out we were already in a Category guarantee status. They had no more cabins to assign.

Also- When full payment is due, many people cancel out their reservations and you will see a lot of availability open up. Which is why there may be numerous cabins available today.

I think Tluvs2talk is in the same situation I was in.

I sailed in January on a 7 day cruise and I was offered a voucher for a 3 day cruise in the fall for $99.

I booked the 3 day in January as soon as I could, and I was one of the first to book using the vouchers. They gave us a GTY status until they received our signed voucher cards with full payment and they verified everything.

Sometime after DCL verified everything, they made cabin assignments. If you hadn't called DCL and pesterd them, you wouldn't have known your cabin assignment until they sent out the documents.

I of course, pestered and found out what my cabin assignment was.

hope that helps

albiats,
That sounds like what happened. We booked our $99 cruise as soon as we returned home. The person asked us what room we would like and we picked a room on the 7th deck. We checked our reservation status online and it had us listed in the room we requested, However when we received our cruise documents Friday they had us in room 5001. That is as far forward as you can go. I was going to call but decided we were probably in a good spot. We will have 4 people in our room, so that also narrowed the room choices. I really do think it will work to our advantage because the kids areas are on the same deck. It really would not have been an issue if we weren't asked where we wanted to be.

I try very hard to always book the same room - now that I found it, I feel very "possessive" of it! Guess that's just part of the "dream" for me!!! Going home to my very own space!

I know what you mean by your "own" room. We have had the same room 2108 for 2 years in a row on the Magic. When I rebooked on board for the 8/9/03 I asked for our room, she didn't say no so I assumed we had it. How sad I was when DU contacted us and said we are in room 2114, 2108 was not available. The sad part is that the people in 2108 probably don't even care which room they are in.

Rae519 -- just had to say what a beautiful little girl. I clicked on the link under her name to see more -- and imagine my horror to see that she was killed by a drunk driver! So sad.....

Dear wovenwonder -
Thank you so much for those kind words. She was very special and even more so through her death because now people can become aware of organ donation and the value human life has even after the last breath.

He wasn't drunk - just a newly licensed 16 year old boy who wasn't paying attention who has never felt any remorse about it. Which for his sake is very sad.

BUT if in my memorial to her (who I have the most wonderful web tech's help making) - just ONE person thinks about organ donation and makes an informed decision, then it has served it's purpose. I may never need an organ donation or have anyone that I love need one, but anyone of many DIS readers, might either need or know of someone who does. As long as we are informed then, we can make the right decision - even if that decision is not to donate.

I am so sorry to make you sad about her loss - her life was more than that one event - it was made up of thousands of happy, loving ones and I try to remember that when I give my message about organ donation.

And to Markey - I agree with you 100% the people that got MY room for May 2003 probably don't care either - but I certainly! Just soooo possessive!!!!

Happy sailing -
Rae
