Is There Any Majic At Universal???

I have not been to Universal since the early 90's I think it was like right after it first opened. Not much there.

DH has been wanting to go. I only ever wanted Disney.

Well, I'm taking my group of dancers to Uni next summer (tweens and teens) so I decided that I need to do some Universal research first!

So to my HORROR I decided to split our next trip (for my b-day no less) 3 days at Uni and 3 at WDW.

Now my boys are so darn excited. They love both the Nick characters and the Marvel characters.

I'm starting to get excited. I know I won't feel the "magic" at Uni but I'm thinking it's going to be "Darn Cool."

I won't expect Disney. I do like rides and cool stuff so I'm sure I will like Universal.

Now I CAN imagine going to WDW without stopping by UNI ... but I could never say I'd go to UNI without going to WDW too! I plan to go to WDW after my dancer trip or I will explode.

LOL

I choose Disney first over Universal and probably always will. HOWEVER, I had a great time during my 4 day stay at Universal in July.

In the Magic Kingdom, my heart swells up with memories of family vacations from the past 25 years of my life. That's pretty hard to compete with!::yes:: Disney provides me with nostalgia and connects me with the inner child that will never forget her fist WDW trip.

Universal gives me excitement! If you like thrilling rides, you must check out Universal. Their version of MIB beats out Disney's Buzz Lightyear for sure! The Mummy is way more exciting than Rock N Rollercoaster. And Spiderman.........well, there's just no words to descibe it. There's nothing that even comes close to this at Disney.

Universal has magic, it's just a different kind of magic.

It may not have magic but it must be doing something right.

Islands of Adventure voted No. 1 theme park for 3rd year

Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom routinely outdraws other Orlando theme parks in terms of attendance. But most visitors who vote in an annual survey conducted by a popular consumers Web site appear to be fans of Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure. For the third consecutive year, Islands of Adventure was named favorite theme park by visitors to ThemeParkInsider.com. The site polled about 8,000 readers and released its results last month. This year, Islands of Adventure prevailed despite stiff competition from SeaWorld Orlando and Disneyland Paris, as well as Universal Orlando's own Universal Studios, according to ThemeParkInsider.com. But that wasn't the only good news for Universal Orlando. The company -- which touted the survey's results in a recent press release -- won the top spot in four of the following seven categories:

Best Theme Park: Islands of Adventure.

Best Attraction: The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios.

Best New Attraction: Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios.

Best Restaurant in a Theme Park: Mythos Restaurant at Islands of Adventure.

If I had girls, I am going to bet they would like Disney better.

Don't bet on it! My two DD's are my thrill ride children. We love IOA. The theming of the five lands is fantastic. The kids liked US, but were not interested in a lot of the movie attractions. We love disney too, but are not the type to gush over Disney "magic". I never went to WDW as a kid, and don't have any nostalgic feelings for it. It's a fun place to visit.

We have been to WDW 18 times since 1989 and to US only twice (once after IOA opened). We even stayed at Universal's RP Hotel. IMHO, we couldn't feel the magic at all! The only thrill ride we felt was better at US/IOA was Spiderman. Looking forward to experiencing the magic on trips to WDW in December and May and October and . . . . Not sure when we'll use the remaining day on our US/IOA pass, if we ever do.

However, I believe it is worth trying at least once so you can form your own opinion.

I first went to Universal before IOA was open several years ago and, just like you, I wasn't impressed. The park was dirty and some of the employees were rude. We then went right after IOA was opened and liked the rides, the parks were a little cleaner but still the employees weren't overly friendly.

The last two years, Universal and IoA has done a complete turn around. I think you might be pleasantly surprised if you decide to use your remaining day there.

Universal is great you do it once and thats that!!

I feel that I get more bang for my buck at WDW. Eventhough I'm spending about the same money at wdw as universal. I don't feel as if I have wasted my precious vacation time.

Money comes and goes but memories always stay and my memories of wdw are great!!!
