Is there any hope for no masks by April 2022 at Disney World?

I completely agree, and for whatever reason, I think that the media is the biggest offender here.

The news stories about "variants" started literally within 2 weeks of the initial vaccine distribution, and then suddenly there were 3 or 4 variants, each of which was "scarier" than the previous one. Oddly, however, the variant "threat" that was supposed to happen actually resulted in a precipitous drop in cases in February and March.

Now, the media can't seem to decide whether it's these scary variants or those evil spring-breakers that are causing the so-called "fourth wave". It depends on the media outlet and the day as to which one they blame.

What are people supposed to think? I'm not discounting the terrible loss we've had from this covid thing, but the pessimism seems to still be rampant, no matter how much case rates drop or vaccine distribution increases.
Exactly. And heard a virologist today say that all 3 vaccines seem to still be very effective against serious infection even from the variants.

For 16 and up this is not far away. For 12-15 should be end of summer and mid fall they should all easily have the chance but they are minors so its gonna be tougher. Under 12 has generally proven to not spread it as easily or get it as sever so I really don't see this group getting the vaccine that much since many parents will not want to.
12-15 will be eligible in about a month Pfizer already has asked for the EUA as of today.

Vaccines have no effect on masking up. Mask mandate from CDC will end when it’s advantageous for them. Texas and MS have proven they aren’t impacting infectious rates. I predict by August you will see fewer restrictions...November will be telling.

Oh I definitely think there is hope. I think a crappy flu and covid season overrunning our medical system would be the only reason masks are optional across the country next year.

It's all an unknown at the moment, but if preliminary results on the vaccines reducing spread are anything to go by, then as soon as it plays out by achieving herd immunity and the link between infection and hospitalisations/deaths is broken, then it may be the case that mask mandates get lifted sooner. However, it'll need to have enough people vaccinated in order to achieve that, and that's a Herculean task.

And there may be no true herd immunity like the flu. That is a very real possibility. But if it keeps the risk of severe illness and death down then it is also time to move on and learn to live with it and research needs to keep focusing on treatments (which they are but its no what the media is interested in talking about now).

But the CDC is a government-funded agency with a singular interest in the medical aspect of Covid. It will technically never be advantageous for them to lift restrictions. The CDC won't suffer from lack of income from shuttered businesses, and they don't care about the economic recovery - they only care about combatting Covid.

That's okay and helpful - to a point.

At some point, their authority in this pandemic can - and needs to - come to an end. This should probably happen when everyone is vaccinated who wants to be vaccinated. Even if Covid becomes endemic at that point, and the CDC still thinks that we should be cautious and masking-up - at some point we just have to ignore them and move on.

This. I have been saying this all along that some of these scientists who keep predicting doom & gloom in spite of progress may just be wanting to keep themselves relevant.

And once plain old variants didn’t scare people enough, we had the double mutant COVID!!!

I don’t post... but this is plain false.

It is true to say that they don’t care about public economic policy... because they only care about public health policy.

To say they are trying to stay relevant is patently untrue and wreaks of your own political POV.

Actually quite the opposite of my political POV. I’m usually on that “side”, if you will. But the constant doom & gloom despite the progress gets old.

People have opinions, that is what threads encourage - it's sad to see when you don't agree that some on here get their panties in a twist. I am sure "Doom and Gloom" has gotten us closer to beating the virus...(insert eye roll here...)

Since yet another thread has become nothing but an argumentative, attacking, misinformation filled slugfest, far from the topic posed, it is now closed.
