Is there any hope for no masks by April 2022 at Disney World?

Yeah I found it an interesting choice that they decided this even though they had just made it stricter by telling people to wear masks while seated at a restaurant. Maybe they made that rule stricter in restaurants so they felt more comfortable allowing guests to take their mask off for pictures? I dunno.

I have seen many reports that nothing actually changed for dining though, they still are told to take off once seated. Only a few that said to keep on till drinks then off. Still seems like it was a wording thing to align with CA.

That's the problem...discussion is not deemed "healthy" anymore. It's a s sad state of affairs when view points can not be discussed and opinions heard. It's pointless when we sit idly by and say nothing.

I am not talking about sharing opposing points of view. Discussion is healthy. But many of these threads turn into name calling, insults, sharing misinformation. We see it over and over. People on both sides of the mask arguments are guilty of it. That’s what’s not healthy. The mask threads always turn toxic.

Anyway, that’s the last I’ll say on the subject.

I agree and I will bow out as well.

Yes. In my area there is no wait list so now anyone 16 & older who wants a vaccine can get one. But, there are reports of many appointment slots going unfulfilled. I have been very pro-mask & very pro-restrictions. However, my tolerance for that will soon wane significantly since vaccines are readily available in this state.
Your area needs to send those vaccines and workers our way. We are opposite. Even though they are opening to everyone, plenty of elderly are still frustrated waiting for their turn. Getting an appointment here is months out unless you are good at "working the system".

I agree - the threads should reflect all points of view. It's funny how as soon as there is a positive development, there is someone shooting it down. Seems to me that this is the issue nation wide - the facts are being ignored and you can not stop progress. We will return to normal whether people like it or not. Things change daily and discussions about that are good.
I’m not saying this is the case for anyone on this thread, but I know a few ppl irl who like the way things are. They like not being able to travel & having to stay home. Of course, they’re comfortable financially so it doesn’t bother them. With these ppl, every time there is progress, they can’t wait to say...”but wait”.

That’s so frustrating. What state? Our state is usually not very efficient with these things so it’s surprising to me that we have done such a good job. I have been vaccinated for 2 mos now.

Maryland for my parents (mom got hers only because she is tech savvy and did some kind of a facebook exchange, otherwise she would still be waiting) and Virginia for me. I work urgent care and have had several elderly patients frustrated. My DH registered and was told at least 2 months before there would be an available appointment for him. He is group 1c.

We are a smaller state population wise, but I thought vaccines were supposed to be distributed accordingly 🤷‍♀️

I know some of these people too.

Yep we are also doing great up here. Vaccine opened up to 16 and over weeks ago openings all over the state and the largest population area opened to walk in vaccinations last week. If you want it you can get it within days. The high risk of over age 70 has good coverage of around 70% having at least one dose and vast majority having 2. Hospitals have plenty of space and less than 20 deaths in the last 5 to 6 weeks and only 1 this month.

Businesses and schools are open, people are making money and kids are learning. Life is good in the North Country.

I cant see it coming down before the end of the year, the CDC seems to want to keep changing the rules and keeping people guessing. If the signs they are seeing in cases keeps rising we are probably looking at lock downs again as the other strains hit the states. Just my 2 cents!

I booked August 2022 but if Disney doesn't have things more back to normal, we'll cancel. I'm holding the room I want but I cancelled last summer and I can cancel again if needed. I advise OP to do that.

We are going to book November 2022 when it opens up but if masks are still required we will cancel. It’s the only reason we won’t rent DVC points. I’m not anti mask. I work in healthcare and am fully vaccinated but I don’t want to wear a mask 24/7 (other than eating, in my room or at the pool) on vacation. It’s too much for us. We would go elsewhere and book Disney for another time.

Unless something has changed vaccines are distributed based on population. States with a higher % of senior citizens had less vaccine for others. States that vaccinated teachers first had less for others. States which gave priority to essential workers, and had a more liberal definition had less available for others.

It sounds like we're getting to the point where anyone who wants a vaccine will be able to get one within in a month or two.

People on DIS shouldn't have had problems getting vaccines, once eligible. Signing up for a vaccine, many areas, is easier then setting your alarm and grabbing FPs and ADRs minutes after they're released. Easier then getting a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance.

So true! When our state opened for general public, a friend and I joked that snagging the CVS appointments after midnight was like getting our fastpasses and ADRs.

(Except way easier, since new vaccine appointments were gone in about 8 or 9 hours versus a matter of minutes for WDW.) Disney had trained us well!😂

The states then choose how many they send to each area of their state. And some states do this better then others. My parents live in a county in Maryland that has been ignored and I guess our county in VA is as well. Some states may be more equal about it.

In PA, right now it’s 65+, medical conditions, essential workers. Reality is clinics are opening up to anyone if appointments are not filled. I got my first one last night, most of the people there were well under 65. Appointments opened to all at 24 hours, there were plenty. They were full by yesterday afternoon. It was at a fire hall, very busy. Well run, I was in and out in 30 minutes, including the 15 minute wait time.

This is exactly how I feel. Once everyone that has the chance to get a vaccine, I'm ready to start getting back to normality. I keep dreaming about the pre-covid Disney days of Fantasmic!, parades, fireworks, etc. Makes my heart hurt.

My dogs, however, are going to freak when I'm no longer working from home... 😂

For 16 and up this is not far away. For 12-15 should be end of summer and mid fall they should all easily have the chance but they are minors so its gonna be tougher. Under 12 has generally proven to not spread it as easily or get it as sever so I really don't see this group getting the vaccine that much since many parents will not want to.

I completely agree, and for whatever reason, I think that the media is the biggest offender here.

The news stories about "variants" started literally within 2 weeks of the initial vaccine distribution, and then suddenly there were 3 or 4 variants, each of which was "scarier" than the previous one. Oddly, however, the variant "threat" that was supposed to happen actually resulted in a precipitous drop in cases in February and March.

Now, the media can't seem to decide whether it's these scary variants or those evil spring-breakers that are causing the so-called "fourth wave". It depends on the media outlet and the day as to which one they blame.

What are people supposed to think? I'm not discounting the terrible loss we've had from this covid thing, but the pessimism seems to still be rampant, no matter how much case rates drop or vaccine distribution increases.
