Is there any good reason to keep a July trip until Disney cancels vs cancel now?

I think rescheduling for July 4th is probably pointless. That's just my opinion though.

Mine too. Our stay is September and we already plan on making ADR's for December instead once 180 days rolls around. We will keep the reservation till it auto cancels then we will make a discount reservation once it is offered to us.

This is just not going to end this year I am guessing.

I have a trip scheduled starting July 13th, and DW and I have decided we're going to wait for Disney to chime in or until June 15th to make a decision. No reason to rush this. Right now, our airfare still is subject to its usual rules, so waiting until they make an announcement seems prudent anyway.

Yesterday we got the email that our May 5th Girls' trip is going to be cancelled. We already made a reservation for December as our makeup date. But now I am thinking about rescheduling the May trip for the July 4th weekend. If they are open, do you think they will have the big firework show? I can fly round trip for $90, so I thought that would be the cheapest way to see the fireworks since my family does not like to go in the summer. I am not really interested in spending a lot of time in the parks, I just want to see the fireworks.

The truth is that nobody knows when Disney will open or what it will look like when it does open. Social distancing and Disney are just not compatible. I don't know if they will be allowed to open. Even if they are able to figure out how to open and allow for social distancing, it may not be profitable to operate the parks at such a reduced capacity. My guess if that IF the parks are able to open, fireworks, parades, stage shows and the like will be cancelled until social distancing is no longer a requirement. I wouldn't bank on July 4th being open and certainly not the fireworks.

I have a trip planned for mid July and since I already bought airline tickets we are waiting until Disney cancels us. Where I live (Ohio) they are talking about lifting the stay-at-home order and slowly opening things back up beginning May 1st so I'm trying to stay optimistic about the possibility of my July trip happening.

I just made a reservation for early June and another for late July.
1) DHs employer is likely going for require everyone to use all vacation by June 30 or lose it (to get it off the books), so we need to do something. 2) We can drive, a long drive, but we can change plans easily. 3) Even if parks are operating on a limited basis, we'll still have fun. 4) We love just enjoying the resort, so I reserved our favorite one at a great price. I'll buy tickets once I know for sure we're going (like the morning we set off for FL). 5) I want to contribute to people in hospitality industry getting back to work!!!

Right now we have already paid the airfare through Disney. Not sure if we would go or not but is it worth it

You can only use one discount. So if they include July in the new free dining for trips affected the other promo would drop. You would have the choice which one to use.

Free dining is an incentive only for those who were cancelled due to the park closure. You would have to wait and see if disney is actually closed in July. Its also possible offers will change as time goes on. We have a July booking as well, its a hard waiting game.

We are supposed to go July 2-7. We have APs. we Had cancelled our Spring Break trip 2 days before they announced they were closing anyway.. We are probably going to cancel July as well, but I probably won’t unail closer to time just to get more info. I think there is less and less a possibility that the parks will be open in any sense of normalcy, and even if they did I am not sure I would want to be there with people from all over the country in tight quarters. Social distancing is not possible there. Even if they lowered capacity there is always someone who is oblivious and will stand right next to you or sneeze without covering their mouth. And wearing a mask in the July weather is just asking for heat stroke. We drink water every 15 min in summer when there, and you would have to be taking the mask on and off (therefore defeating the purpose of it).

This offer is valid only for Guests who booked a vacation package or room reservation to stay at a Disney Resort hotel during the dates Walt Disney World Resort is closed. Offer not valid for reservations canceled before March 1, 2020.

As It stands now, you would not be eligible. And as the other posters said, you get only 1 promo per reservation. For the free dining, you would pay rack rate for your room. You can’t combine the room discount t & free dining.

I'm in a similar situation. We are doing a 4 night DCL cruise followed by a stay at Poly (on our DVC points). It's my 50th birthday celebration.

I'm hoping the cruise gets canceled so I can get my money back. If it is I'll cancel our Poly stay too. If Disney doesn't cancel our cruise, I think I will and just accept losing whatever $ they won't refund. I really don't want to go on a ship this summer anymore.

I am in your Boat ( no pun intended lol). Cruise end of july followed by a 4 night at WDW. I have decided I will go if it sails, which for the record I do not think it will. The will not cruise until safe to do so. We have a back up land trip for the intended time of the cruise + land. Honestly, as long as i can use my resort (Poly/BC split stay), we will go.

Below is the current offer. Your dates do not qualify, but if the closure extends into June/July, it's worth it to keep an eye open to see if it's extended. I'm sure it will be posted on these boards if anything new is announced.

"Eligible Guests can take advantage of a vacation package offer that includes accommodations at a select Disney Resort hotel, park admission and a Disney dining plan—valid for arrivals most nights June 1 through September 30, 2020 when you book through May 31, 2020.

I agree with this. Sooner or later, Disney will have to open up. Disney+ was a nice boost to the company, but I read the other day a very well-known analyst say that he estimates Disney is losing $30 million per day, due to everything from the closed parks to no movies and no sports on TV. Simply not sustainable as a business plan, no matter how good the name "Disney" is.

Disney won't just open up for Disney. They'll also open up because Florida will need them to. Gotta remember that Florida's budget is basically all tourism related - they have no state income tax. Disney will open soon, and I think they'll be open in June at some point. I think it will be an incredible opportunity for people to visit this summer and fall especially since so many people will still be petrified to do any sort of travel, similar to how it was after 9/11.

July is still 10 weeks away.

Quite frankly, if they're not open in July, the problems and damage will be permanent - not only to Disney, but to everything else. If they're not open by the 4th, I think its fair to wonder the solvency of the Disney Co. They're not making movies and there's nothing in a theatre until the fall. There's no live sports. There's no cruises. They NEED the parks to be open, and soon. I think they'll do whatever they can to have something open at some point in June.

we are holding out hope as well. dates are currently late June to early July. I was wondering two things, not sure if anyone can help. If Disney decides to open July 1st instead of June will they automatically cancel my whole reservation (DVC) or just my June days?

Secondly, I'm coming up on my FP date and as of yet I haven't linked my tickets. I bought from UT and it says they are refundable if not linked. Since I'm staying on points and flying on miles, my only out of pocket to this point has been tickets. If I link and can't go in June I understand that I can still use the tickets at a later date or at least have a credit for their value if I use them next year. Is that right?

Disney will not cave 4 months after closing the parks. They are a financially savvy, solvent company and they just raised about $7 billion by issuing debt securities, giving them a total of over $12 billion in cash to help them through this crisis. They aren't going to burn through $12 billion by July. They also just furloughed about 100,000 people and other employees took pay cuts to reduce costs. With operating expenses cut significantly and over $12 billion on hand, Disney is not in danger of being insolvent by mid-summer. They also have other entertainment segments that don't require gathering large crowds that they can attempt to ramp up to help with revenue. The sing-a-long was a ratings hit and they released Onward direct to streaming for a fee prior to putting it on Disney+ (which also, of course, costs money). They also moved up the release of The Last Dance on ESPN which was a huge ratings hit and will be playing (and streaming) for the next five weeks. They are also issuing credits and other incentives for guests to re-book WDW/DL trips, cruises and ABD tours, thereby, keeping that cash on hand (if a guest chooses), instead of issuing refunds. I, myself, took a credit to the tune of $3k today from ABD with an early booking discount incentive. Multiply that by however many guests who are taking the credit for tours cancelled (and, thereby, not costing ABD a dime) and that credit is profit for them. Disney has weathered financial crises many times before and will weather this one as well. They aren't going to open the parks prematurely and risk the health of their guests and employees.
