Is there any good reason to keep a July trip until Disney cancels vs cancel now?

We cancelled our last week of March trip on 3/14 after the first closure announcement. I later booked another trip for 6/5-6/12. They announced the free dining promotion on 3/20. I called and had it added on to the June trip. All I needed was my March confirmation number.

After the second closure announcement I booked a backup end of July trip. If I have to cancel the June trip I will move everything including the free dining to the July trip. I am not canceling either one until we have an official announcement from Disney about extending the closure or a modified reopening. The truth is no one knows what Disney will do when they reopen. All the talk about modified experiences, limited capacity, requiring masks etc. is all speculation at this point. The only thing that is confirmed at this point is possible temperature checks which doesn’t bother me at all. Until I hear it straight from Disney I am not making any decisions.

Our family has already decided that if there are limited rides and attractions or strict guidelines like wearing face masks we will not go. We will cancel and think about scheduling in 2021 if we are not happy with the experience being offered.

I guess I just hate to actually say it's over? When I know in my gut it is.

I totally get this. We were supposed to go to Mexico on March 13 followed by WDW right afterward. A little over a week before we were supposed to leave for Mexico, I cancelled that trip (I was afraid we would get stuck there and the border did close the day after we were supposed to return!) and expanded our WDW trip to try to salvage some of spring break. Well, we all know now how that ended. I definitely went through a period of mourning when I realized none of these trips were happening so I totally understand how you feel right now.

I'm not throwing in the towel yet on my 6/27 through 7/7 trip. I realize it probably won't be the full experience if they're operating, but the modifications/restrictions may be something I can live with, so until they say otherwise, I'm holding out hope. Part of me wants to reschedule for Christmas, but there may be a resurgence of the virus by then, and also, I actually prefer going to WDW in the summer.

Yep, Dr. Fauci has already said if their is a resurgence, it’l be in the fall/ November , Early winter. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen, but if it does we will all be hopefully better prepared. But if Disney does open up this summer, we run into the possibility of having to shut down in the winter again.

We have an early/mid July trip and I’m waiting to cancel. Flights aren’t being refunded yet for July anyway and my husband especially wants to see what happens. It’s still over 2 months away. Who knows what’ll happen

Agree - we are booked for July 14 and not cancelling yet-
Still think, maybe too optimistically that they open July 4

I'm in a similar situation. We are doing a 4 night DCL cruise followed by a stay at Poly (on our DVC points). It's my 50th birthday celebration.

I'm hoping the cruise gets canceled so I can get my money back. If it is I'll cancel our Poly stay too. If Disney doesn't cancel our cruise, I think I will and just accept losing whatever $ they won't refund. I really don't want to go on a ship this summer anymore.

If you do not plan to keep the trip even if they do open, cancel it. I rebooked from April to the end of July. I also made a reservation for the end of August. I hope to be able to go on one of those. If the experience is greatly reduced, I am probably cancelling. I got refunded for my flights in April and am not rebooking flights until I have more definitive evidence that the parks will be open this summer and, if so, what that will look like. I will hold onto my July reservation until it is abundantly clear that my vacation isn't able to happen. I think if Disney does open with a reduced experience of some kind, they will waive cancellation or change fees, so keeping the reservation until I know more isn't harming me at all besides holding my deposit. However, I do intend to go if I can.

I also have 2 other reservations made as back up. But for each one, they have a lot of $$ of mine in deposits (room only).

I went ahead and cancelled my July trip. I had to cancel my February trip because my husband had a work conflict crop up and then we cancelled this past week's trip due to the parks being closed. I guess this wasn't my year to buy an Annual Pass! lol! In all seriousness, I have a compromised immune system and even if Disney is open in July, I won't feel comfortable being there. I'll just plan to go another time when everything calms down.

I heard a good tip on this.

if it is your first time, or your first time booking under the new FP+ digital system, you may as well wait to cancel until after the 60 day FP+ window.

why? Because its a good trial run to see what the system looks like, to play around with it. that way you know what to expect for next trip!

We’re in the same boat. We have a trip planned for July 7-12. We haven‘t cancelled/postponed yet, but we’re assuming at this point that we’ll probably have to. I’m waiting another month or so to see where everything is and what our options are (later this summer, or next year?). It’s just so surreal.

I also had a Disneyland trip planned for the end of August, since I was going to be in Anaheim for Star Wars Celebration. We’re expecting the convention to be either cancelled or postponed, so both Disney trips I had planned this summer may not be happening.

My Disney World trip overlaps with yours. I’m hoping things get ok where we can do things but I’m being realistic it probably won’t be 😩😭. This all really sucks

I have a July trip planned. I believe I should cancel. But is there any good reason to wait for Disney to cancel first? Will some kind of incentive be offered if they have to cancel on me?

Do you actually want to go? If you do then wait until they cancel, which they probably won’t, and if they do you’ll get a full refund. If they don’t, you get your vacation! My April 1st vacation was cancelled March 27th and I had all my money back by the end of the month without doing anything.

If you don’t want to go, then just cancel.

If you’re waiting for Disney to give you an incentive for a pandemic they didn’t cause, then just cancel and save the fastpasses for the rest of us.

It really does. This was supposed to be my nephews’ first trip to WDW, I feel like we were just planning everything and now we’re suddenly about to cancel it all? Some of my extended family and a few of my friends’ families have been hit hard by covid-19, so honestly if the worst thing I have do is postpone a vacation I will consider myself very lucky...but it all just really sucks.

My nephews have been such champs through everything, I’m going to spoil them rotten whenever we finally do get there.

Ha! Our trip is also July 7-12

That's a good idea. I have never used it!

I don't have a trip planned yet but I want to go in July. If I did have it planned already, I would definitely keep it until the 30 day mark. But, I am saying that knowing that the parks will open with limitations and added restrictions and it doesn't really bother me. i guess it depends on what isn't operating. The buffets - I wouldn't care. character greetings - although I'm a grown up, i would be sad about it but I won't let that stop me. I'm not certain what would make me not want to go. I'm in the sit and wait mode.
