Is there any good reason to keep a July trip until Disney cancels vs cancel now?

We were supposed to be at WDW right now. I didn’t officially cancel this trip til 2 weeks ago, even tho I knew weeks ago it wasn’t happening. Originally we considered Mother’s Day week as a back up, but we quickly figured out that wasn’t gonna be good. So I booked July 13-18. We also have a trip in September that was booked last December. We would love to keep July, but we are in our 60s & we both still work in essential services. So I am nervous about exposing ourselves. And we’ll have to see what the policies are at our work places re: traveling. I don’t know if we’ll go if it means 2 weeks of quarantine after we get back. Sigh. The unknown is hard. :guilty:

Maybe there is something I am missing as far as Disney offering “deals” for those that cancelled but IMO if you are hoping to take advantage of a deal you should 100% wait until Disney announces it/forces you to cancel.
If you cancel now, unless Disney wants to be nice, they have no reason or obligation to include you in a deal down the road as YOU cancelled when the park was expected to be open and operating.
now if you are not going to go anyway, or go during what is most likely going to be a deal offering time frame, cancel and don’t worry about it.

as far as people picking to go with limited rides/food/other restriction,
I feel and understand people’s views points on both sides And every family situation is different.
just one example around cost...
a family that has the means to go multi times a yr saying they are not going to go and pay for “restricted” food/hrs/rides isn’t the same as a family who saved for yrs to go once.
that family might say it’s worth it because they have the excitement built and anything is better than nothing.

I guess my ramble is to say people should be careful in assuming what will be offered/not offered. Be careful in trying to assume crowd levels once a reopen happens.
Gage your situation based on what is best for you today and not in the unknown.
If your situations allows, wait till Disney makes an announcement then you can make an educated response that fits you.

I don't have a trip planned yet but I want to go in July. If I did have it planned already, I would definitely keep it until the 30 day mark. But, I am saying that knowing that the parks will open with limitations and added restrictions and it doesn't really bother me. i guess it depends on what isn't operating. The buffets - I wouldn't care. character greetings - although I'm a grown up, i would be sad about it but I won't let that stop me. I'm not certain what would make me not want to go. I'm in the sit and wait mode.

We are in the same boat with a trip booked in mid-August. There's so much speculation as to how the parks will look then, but really, no one knows. I'd say the only thing that's certain is the experience will be different.

I imagine that the free dining offer will be extended if the park closure is extended. If the park remains open, though "modified" I think they would probably charge full price for the trip--after all, we've had park days where we couldn't go on any outdoor rides and had no fireworks due to rain--or got stuck on Disney transportation for hours--with no compensation. Once the parks are open, they are offered "as is" and you don't get a partial refund for a less-than-optimal experience. But they might offer some sort of special bounceback offer for a subsequent trip.

I can tell you from my personal experience that I had a Disney cruise and WDW trip planned for late May/early June, and I felt so much better after I rescheduled our trip. It allowed me to stop worrying about my existing trip and start planning the new one. I knew that if Disney did not cancel, I would not feel comfortable going, so better to just accept our vacation was lost and move on.

On the other hand, I have seen posts from people who cancelled early and then were furious when Disney announced a better offer later that they were not eligible for. I think if you do cancel, you have to do so with the attitude that you won't have regrets if you miss out on something. It's like playing poker... sometimes you just have to lay down a hand not knowing for sure if you would have won or lost if you stayed in--you have to make the right decision for you based on the information you have at the time.

I have a July trip planned. I believe I should cancel. But is there any good reason to wait for Disney to cancel first? Will some kind of incentive be offered if they have to cancel on me?
I’d hold out... incentives likely offered and if
A room only with no oop loss, you have nothing to lose but something to gain. My gut still says fall for Any opening.. but we ll see. Hope I’m wrong.

Moved our trip Saturday from late June till End of August and kept our free dining. Call was answered in less than 5 min. Feel that it will be safer and more will be open.

Well, I just canceled our July 7-12 trip and all dining reservations. There's not going to be a vaccine until next year, and I read a few more articles stating that "large gatherings" like concerts and sporting events (which I read to apply to Disney as well) won't start back until perhaps 2021. Going to start planning for 2021.

There’s no question that it won’t open 100% normal. But as to what changes there will be, that’s anyone’s guess right now. I am scheduled June 1-6 as a rebook. We’ve already been discussing things we are willing to do without to go.. buffets, parades, character meets fireworks, Epcot. And things we’d be ok with.. temp checks, virtual queues. I think we’d draw a line at wearing masks, or having a significant amount of rides shut down. But we are waiting until there’s an official announcement of opening and what will be different to make our decision. We’ve got our ADR’s and our Fastpasses, and are pretty much just letting it go at this point.

Yea. I would draw the line at wearing masks. There’s no way my 4 year old would wear it all day in the July heat. I’d honestly be worried about her if she had to. Especially with the amount we would want her to drink water

That’s where I feel fortunate. Ours is an adult only trip. I’d be approaching it differently if I had younger kids along. But even though the threat of the virus will most likely still be lingering. The three adults going are all essential workers who have been moving through public all this time without getting it, and I feel like we have a good handle on social distancing and personal hygiene.

If I had a trip planned or booked, I would cancel. I do not want to spend that kind of money to go if I had a single thought that it might be unsafe or if they are thinking about opening in stages. I'd wait until all parks and attractions are open.

We have a family trip in mid August and hope Disney is open at least most of the way. We also moved our couple trip from May to November. That way DH and I can see the decorations. I did read about the temperature scanners so that may be in place when we go. People have to decide what they are comfortable with and make decisions based in that.

The way I would ask the question would be is there any benefit to cancelling now vs. waiting? I don't think there is unless you had paid in full and are wanting the refund sooner than later. Personally, I am waiting until 30 days out (my trip is August) when final payment is due to make my final decision on whether or not to cancel.

I guess in my head I want to put it to rest. But part of me feels it's too soon to do that. Yet unless things were 100% normal, I have no plans to go. If they start eliminating attractions and buffets, etc, I would not go. I would rather wait for another time. So I know the reality has to be that there is no way it will open and go back to normal. Unless some kind of miracle occurs and I guess that's what I am hanging on to???
I felt the same way. I was sad, but very relieved, when I finally broke down and canceled the trip.

I’m thinking our July 7 trip is less and less likely at this point. I’m super sad about it though. My husband is finally getting on board too with it being unlikely to happen 😭

We currently have a Disney Cruise planned next April for Easter week. We are toying with the idea of buying annual passes for next year. Staying on property before the cruise for Thursday - Saturday. Then going for a long weekend in May (I work at a catholic school so we have off ascension Thursday weekend). Then for sure going presidents week 2022 and maybe for a weekend in October/November 2021. Not sure yet though.

Yesterday we got the email that our May 5th Girls' trip is going to be cancelled. We already made a reservation for December as our makeup date. But now I am thinking about rescheduling the May trip for the July 4th weekend. If they are open, do you think they will have the big firework show? I can fly round trip for $90, so I thought that would be the cheapest way to see the fireworks since my family does not like to go in the summer. I am not really interested in spending a lot of time in the parks, I just want to see the fireworks.

I think rescheduling for July 4th is probably pointless. That's just my opinion though.
