Is there an easy way to crush candy canes?

I have a food processor but I love the ziplock bag with a kitchen towel and good old HAMMER! IF I'm stressed out I would love to whack lots of things as long as my kitchen isn't messed up lol.:rotfl2:

I did some recently, to sprinkle on top of sugar cookies to make pretty candy-cane sugar cookies. My son did the honors. We have some high quality zip-locks. That, and being more gentle... we didn't have a big problem with holes. Just tap-tap-tap along each candy cane will easily crush it! ;)

I didn't try the blender/food processor.
That may work well!

Here is my tip....
Once the candy canes are crushed... I put them in my colander/sieve.
You can get rid of excess dust, and I ended up with beautiful little uniform pieces of crushed candy cane!

For the record I do not have any candy canes to crush, but when I read the question I had to read the thread.

This was a neat old zombie to resurrect! The mystery is solved:goodvibes. If I ever need to crush up candy canes, I will be an expert! :thumbsup2

I love the DIS! :lovestruc

I am digging up an old thread…I just had to share a laugh…

DD14 and were making peppermint bark and needed to crush the candy canes. She was using the Ziploc/towel/hammer technique and it was making a huge mess so I googled “best way to crush candy canes” and this was the #1 listing! TY my sweet dis friends…my food processor worked great! :lovestruc

Thanks for digging up this old thread! I am making some chocolate peppermint pudding for Christmas and I did a test run last week. It turned out great but crushing the candy was a messy job and one I wasn't looking forward to again. I just stuck them in the freezer thanks to this thread and will try the food processor.

Chew harder.

I do like a pp, ziploc, then cover with dishtowel. I take a rolling pin and beat them. I'm making it my dd's task now though. I was smacking pecans in a ziploc last night and she was like "oh, that looks fun, let me!" Those poor pecans got pulverized, lol.

OP here - this was a surprise to see this near the top of the posts! I now have a Pampered Chef chopper, so that's the way I'd probably do it if I ever have to crush candy canes again. Just glad my old post from 2 years ago could help out people this year as well!
