Is there a trick to getting Jack Johnson's Only the Ocean as a ringtone? I keep looking and trying but getting pushed to different things and I think I once bought a song on Itunes thinking it was a ring tone but it was just a sad single song I didn't want.
Now of course, this could be the post surgery medicine fogging my head but I can't even find an iphone or itunes step by step because even if I'm foggy I think I could do that.... sigh.... assistance appreciated

Only the Ocean by Jack Johnson

Link to ringtone

Then: Settings -> sounds & haptics -> Ringtone

If you can't find it as a ringtone, you can make it into one. Open up your voice recorder app (not your video camera app) on your phone which will automatically record it in the right audio format for ringtones. Play the song on YouTube or where ever. Hold the phone up to your computer's speaker, and hit the record button when it gets to the section you want to record.

The recording will get saved in your file folders somewhere. Find it. Go to change your ringtones and go to the folder it's in. Choose that recording as your new ringtone.

There is a a way to "make it yourself"...

This DOES work because I have done it before. It is not nearly as complicated as it looks at first glance. You will end up with a high quality ringtone. You just have to be very careful to keep it within the time amount allowed. If you exceed that by even the slightest, it just will not work. The article was written for iTunes on your Mac, but if you have the mp3 in your "Music" on a Mac it works just the same. You will still drag and drop the ringtone to your phone, just using the newer interface for syncing. If done correctly, this works... this is how I have my current Morris Day and the Time ringtone :rotfl2:

I can only ASSUME that this can be done on Windows as well if that is your operating system. In theory, it would be easier in Windows because you would not have to deal with that newer Mac way of syncing the phone.

You also have to be careful when making your own ringtones... I had a bit of an awkward situation when I had a Rihanna song that wasn't very nice set as my ringtone. I left my phone sitting on a table in the church basement at a party and I was away from it. Unfortunately my phone rang and I was not near it to stop it

I had first few seconds of Pink Panther a long time ago and while at hospital dealing with a death it sounded off like a stripper song, luckily the other person laughed at it but it was so cringe.... so so so very cringe.... the horror is still with me now.

I haven't done it in years (my phone is usually on vibrate only), but aren't there still apps you can use to create ringtones? They let you trim it to the part you want and save in the correct format.

Seems like a lot of work just to get a certain ringtone. My phone has a number of built-in choices for ringtones. Plenty for me to pick from.

Well first attempt, I made a vice memo of the song but can't seem to sort out how to make the phone adopt my custom message. I seem to remember this was a lot easier in the past.

That may be a limitation with your ringtone system. Did you scroll down through all the available ringtones to see if there was a button to press to "Add ringtone"?

I have an 11 and there is no space I see to add custom sounds of any kid, waves from the beach aor seagulls from a day trip would be nice.

Android 11? Here are basic direction. You need to find the folder the audio file is currently in and move or copy it to the Ringtones folder. Then it should appear in the list.
  1. Select the audio file .MP3 format that you want to set as a custom ringtone and put it in the 'Ringtones' folder of your Android phone. You can do this via a PC or through a file manager app on your device.
  2. Once the audio is in the correct folder, go to Settings > Sound and vibration > Phone ringtone.
  3. Tap the My Sounds option and then select the audio file you want to set as your custom ringtone.
  4. Hit the plus (+) button and then tap Save.
Ringtones are typically played for 30–45 seconds. You may, therefore, need to trim your audio file.
