Is there a Policy on Heely's in WDW???

I disagree, i mean seriously, let your children have some fun. ONLY let your children wear them if they know how to control them. Some parents let their children wear them and they don't even know how to ride. It is only an accident waiting to happen if the children didn't know how to ride. What's the point of wearing Heely's if they can't wear them in any public place? That's basically, saying, I bought these for no reason.
I let my child wear them in Target, and other stores. If they aren't prohibited, then let them wear them.

Fact is, they are prohibited at Disney World. And at many retail stores. When I am at work (I work retail) I am constantly telling kids that they are not allowed to skate in the store. Does it really sound like a good idea to have kids rolling around where there are many other people walking, who are not expecting someone to go zooming by them? And I especially love the parents who let their kids skate up and down the escalator.

And you must be some parent if you can guarantee that your child will never have an accident with them! Can you put that in writing?

Kids can wear them in lots of public places, like a city park, biking/jogging trail or neighborhood sidewalk. Pretty much anywhere you would expect a child to be wearing skates (since that's what heelys really are). It just comes down to common sense.

here we go again...

popcorn::

(Hi Stinky_Pete)
Budge over, make room for me and share some popcorn:: .x.

My opinion,i don't like them neither does my dd6.Walking down the street,in the shops,in the shopping malls-were always getting bumped into, elbowed out the way,or they just plough into you.I'm glad there banned in WDW(but then just like here-rules are not abided by :sad2: ).

As others have said, over and over again, Heeleys are NOT allowed in WDW. The rules have been posted and the link provided. It does not matter if your child whines or complains about not being allowed to use theirs while they may see others doing it; grow a backbone and be a parent by setting rules and sticking to them, and praise your child for their cooperation in following the rules. I heard my share of complaints from my sons when they were small, but that still didn't mean I would let them do something that had a very real possibility of harming themselves and others, such as bungee jumping off the roof or roller skating through a mall or grocery store. Being a "mean" Mom didn't bother me at all. Children need boundaries. If you would not permit your child to roller skate someplace, they should also not be using Heeleys there, such as the aisles of Target. I am convinced that those who see no problem with their children using Heeleys in inappropriate locations are simply incapable of using common sense and common courtesy to see the danger they pose, even if being used by "careful", "well-bahaved", and "experienced" children.

All right, boys and girls, you just got the Mom/Grandma lecture. Now on with

That's basically, saying, I bought these for no reason.

Oh yea.. on this point LOL.. You pretty much hit the nail on the head..

Someone said 'let's put wheels on shoes and try to sell them' It caught on for whatever stupid *** reason there was, and now kids HAVE to have them. They've bugged you til you gave in. So yea, you basically bought them for no reason. But the economy does thank you.

They sell BB guns to kids. They sell bikes to kids. Why can't my kids ride bikes through MK while carrying BB guns. That's just so stupid. Why do they even sell those things then when I can't use them in public places like Disney World.

WHY NOT LET THE KIDS HAVE THEIR FUN!

I mean, I am such a lousy parent, why can't you guys just put up with slight inconvenience from my spoiled brats?

Some CM's will enforce the Heely rule. I'm one of them.

If you ride my bus and your child rolls up and down the aisle, You get one warning. If you don't take action then you are not welcome on my bus and will have security waiting for you. It's a safety hazard, plain and simple.

I'm not out to ruin your vacation, I'm out to make sure that ALL guest have an enjoyable vacation.

Other CM's don't because they don't want the confrontation with a guest who will argue, etc.

When your child hurts themself or others because of those shoes, Will YOU take responsibility for their actions??

AMEN! And thank you for being one of the few who actually enforces the rules :thumbsup2

Good for you! I'm sure you've had a few people think you are out to ruin their trip...and that's just not fair on your part.

Rules are rules and they should be followed. ::yes:: To the OP...they're not allowed, and you can prove it to your SIL by the links that have been provided. I hope she understands.

I can't stand Heelys. My nephew has them. They're so heavy...I imagine they're hot...why would one want to wear them in WDW (or any theme park/amusement park) ??? Sneakers even make me hot! :)

Please tell me that you are being sarcastic in your post?

Being at WDW is fun enough for me. I don't need a pair of shoes with wheels attached to have fun there. :confused3

Good Day All! I am posting this question for my sister-in-law. They are going to WDW in Jan of 2008. Her 9 yr old son, my newphew, really enjoys his heelys. He is very good at controling them and well-behaved.

Does anyone know if there is a policy on heelys in the parks or not???

Thanks!!! :thumbsup2
PLEASE LEAVE THEM AT HOME. i've seen to many people getting hunt and the parents of the kids in heelys act like it wasn't "their" kids fault for runnin you over. i saw this last weekend at Kings Island in Ohio. Enjoy your trip

that's not how you get people fired up here try this:

I hate lazy people who wear heely's while driving there unsafe ECV while cutting in line! They are the same people that make multiple ADRs with different names so they will have a choice of places to eat at and in the process lock out all the other hard working people who now can't find one place to eat in all of WDW. And another thing, Mr Toad was boring and I liked the wand! I am very upset it has been removed, what was Disney thinking?

You could also throw in something about people who wait over an hour for the parade only to have somebody stand right in front of them minutes before it starts.

As long as you are drinking out of a 2 year old refillable mug and pool hopping while you are at it, what's the big deal? :rolleyes1 :lmao:

I hate heeleys. Whenever I see a kid wearing them they are skating all over the place and not watching what they are doing. Their parents arent either.
I wont buy them for my sons.

... public places like Disney World.

Walt Disney World is not a public place. It is a private business.

I hope you were being sarcastic with your post.

I am not a CM now but I want to be. When I eventually am I will tell anybody wearing Heelys to stop if I am in a position to do so (such as not at a post I can't leave due to safety reasons).

Heelys are skates! No matter what anybody tries to claim that is what they are. If it is not proper to skate somewhere it is not proper to Heely there either. This includes stores, malls, theme parks, etc.

I personally thought it was a pretty blatant sarcasm, written to the same tone as the poster who wondered why heelys are not allowed if he/she is allowed to buy it for the kids. One thing I find funny on DIS is when a subject like this comes up, people get so worked up that they lose sight of the meaning of Disney and fun. Then again, I have been posting to online forums/BBS in one form or another since 1985 - we have not changed much :)

Take a deep breath and relax.

I figured they were being sarcastic but I wanted to make sure. I'm not worked up about it. A problem of online communication is that there is no tone of voice or facial expressions which can lead to confusion.

The public areas at WDW are "public places."

It is privately owned, but open to the public.

Places open to the public operate with a different set of rules than true private places (like your home.)

It's not Disney's ruling, it's a ruling from the State of Florida. Heelys are not allowed in Florida theme parks.

I totally got your sarcasm - I laughed my head off! I am kind of laughing again at the thought that some people thought you were truly going to let your children drive through WDW on a bike with a BB gun! Now, I'm outright rolling on the floor! lol
