where you can go one time and get your child measured and they then recieve a colored wrist band with a chart of what rides they can go on? I know this is done at busch gardens. Was wondering if anyone knew if WDW has one? It would be SOOOOOO helpful.

I agree, they don't have anything like this, but it would be great if they did:)

They piloted a program called "Goofy's Magic Measure" back in 2001 but it wasn't successful. HERE is an article about it (scroll down to "Abandoning technology"). So now they just do it the old fashioned way, with a measuring stick.

No. They should, but they don't. The child will get measured at every ride, sometimes twice. The first time we took our kids to WDW my son was right at 40 inches and rode everything. Then on the last day the CM at BTMRR measured him and said he was too short! He had riden BTMRR the day before with no problem.

When I saw thread title, I thought you meant to photograph your child against something to see how they've grown /changed over trips year to year. I guess you could choose one spot and come back each year and do that anywhere though.

How do you explain to your child that ir was ok for him to ride yesterday but not today?

The measuring stick gnomes have been making the sticks grow because they don't want kids to ride?
I hope they are still working on this issue because it really costs a lot of time and causes much irritation and many tears the way its set up right now.

You don't. You tell the CM this is ridiculous, give them a dirty look and walk away (at least that's what I did! lol!!!). And then you go ride Splash again, which is also 40 inch height requirement.

Nothing like that. That is a good idea though. When kids are close it takes a lot of time to measure, take off hats, etc.

I believe that the reason Disney did away with this is because of the simple reason that many parents were cheating the system. That is to say, a taller sibling would get measured, then the parents would switch the wristband to the shorter child. Obviously, that creates huge liability issues if something were to happen.

What I suggest if your child is "right around" but AT the height requirement for a ride (ie, they are 40" tall for a 40" tall height required ride):

1) Go early in the day -we are taller in the mornings than in the evenings/late in the day.

2) Make sure your child understands the importance of standing up straight -a lot of kids don't get this, or fool around a bit, but the CM's (who risk losing their jobs if they let a smaller child slip through) take this very seriously.
Also, keep in mind your child may get measured twice, once at the start of the line and once right before getting on. They have to stand up straight both times! Some parents practice this with their kids at home.

3) If your child rode an attraction one day, but then couldn't the next (or even the same day) try waiting for a bit, then getting back in the line. The CM's switch off, and one might measure differently then the next.

4) Leave the platform shoes, wild hairdo and stove-top hats at home. They aren't going to work.

5) Prepare your child BEFORE you go that there may be attractions they aren't tall enough to try.
