Is there a major difference among brokers?

Hi all, we are finally *almost* ready to do the unthinkable and sell a contract. I know Fidelity charges an extra fee and that Cammy is the title agent to use, but otherwise I’m a bit lost in the process. Is the board sponsor really that much better than everyone else, or is one resale site as good as another? I have no interest in trying to do the work to sell it privately but I also want to figure out how to maximize the cash in pocket at the end because I’ll probably use it to buy more points somewhere else. Thank you!

I have used 4 different brokers recently for resale purchases. One of them really stood out for the speed at which they moved after the offer was submitted, and speed and ease of signing the contract. A much quick process than the others.

However, although not the fastest, only one of the 4 brokers really made an effort to negotiate a better deal for the Seller. They were very persuasive (in a professional way) and ultimately got a better deal for the seller (at my expense… but I didn’t mind as it was still a good deal). If I ever sell a contract I would definitely go back to this broker.

So in answer to your question, yes I think there can be a big difference between brokers… and the individuals within each broker.

I have used most all the brokers - buying and selling. Yes, some are better than others. I just used a different broker and there was almost zero communication. I picked the broker because their closing costs were lower. I guess you get what you pay for!

I’ve used 2. Resalemarket tends to have higher prices and more marketing and communication. To be honest, After dealing with the 2nd, I wouldn’t hesitate to offer almost any reseller now if the contract fits your needs. Resalemarket has more handholding and is probably good for a beginner. But now that I’ve been through the process with another, I realized it’s more on your title company than your broker.

I don’t blame resalemarket, but their marketing /swag budget must be over-the-top.
We got a card in the mail with all silly unnecessary confetti crap in it that went everywhere when I opened it. Stickers, etc. the backpack was nice, but it’s not necessary. Just get me a contract at a good price.
After dealing with World of DVC companies you realize where your $$ is going. They are super nice, but they also pay the least to owners for rentals and usually have the highest prices on resale contracts.

I have used several and to be honest, any differences were negligible.

I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of them again. The commission I paid as a seller were pretty much the same.

Definitely agree with this sentiment. My experience with DVC resale market was good but I definitely do feel like I paid a premium for that resale contract. I felt like I did want to support the people I watch on the podcast and youtube videos and at the time there wasn't anywhere else that was selling a subsidized Aulani contract that I had found. However, you can tell even just based on the look of their website compared to others like www.dvcstore.com that DVC resale markets spends a lot of money on their marketing and visuals and you pay a premium for that. My second resale contract was through another broker and it was 20 dollars per point less than what I saw on DVCRM at the time and I would not hesitate to work with them again. As long as the broker is at least somewhat reputable, I would not hesitate using others if the price is better.

I don't think I would say that! They are either reputable or not. I've used all of the major three (not totally sure if that's the right number) and all were fine, although the one known for lower prices + a service fee can have spotty service and sometimes a bit of an attitude. One of the three has the best service as others have noted. There is one smaller broker I talked to that has a very funky vibe that I would not use--basically when I was a buyer, this broker had a heavy-handed approach to not taking what that broker considered offers that were too low.

To each their own, I mean yeah do your research and if there's any major negative reviews I would strongly consider not going through them but there are plenty of other reputable DVC resale websites besides just DVCRM and Fidelity which I'm 99% sure you're referring to lol. Was the smaller one you're talking about *******.com? If so, I've heard some negative things about the owner as well lol. Bzzzzz

Mine was $225, not sure if that is a flat rate no matter how large or small the contract is....
I always put in my offer that the seller is responsible for that fee.

DVC Resale Market is very good. Lots of hand holding, lots of attention. You pay for that attention. They also manipulate the market (my opinion) because they control so much of it. I think there are a lot of games that they play, and not only that but Magic Title (which they more or less act like is the only title company you can use... not true...) is terrible. Slow service, and issues are not uncommon.

Fidelity is terrible from a customer service standpoint, but the prices are lower. You can find all kinds of board articles referencing their problems, but you will save dollars.

I had a great initial conversation with https://www.****************.com recommend them highly based on that initial conversation. Did not end up going through the process (it was in the Summer and then the incentives came out, and made no sense to buy VGF resale), but I found (EDIT - after blocked) THE BROKER to be prompt, professional and friendly, and when I pulled out of the deal with the new round of incentives he said "I totally get it".

I identified contracts I was interested in and bid on them no matter who the broker was.

I know a little more after going through the process and the only difference now is I will have different criteria on what the contract has to have.

Last time I wanted a contract with banked points and this contract that will not be as important and most likely not necessary.

Didn’t mean to suggest otherwise, just that the biggest ones are all okay in my opinion and a little more due diligence/awareness might be necessary for others. There have been some oddball places that have popped up on the internet from time to time but IMHO they have been pretty obviously a bit off. Not discouraging people from using smaller shops just saying use your common sense (and I have no interest in any brokerage in any way so I have no dog in this hunt).

Broker is almost irrelevant.

Correct question would be who is the best title company. They do all the actual work. Broker is just putting a buyer and seller together.

Yep this is who I used for my resale AKV contract. Absolutely loved working with them.

Not enough for me to worry about it.

I will say some of them are very use car salesman. To be very clear I am not talking about Fidelity either who I prefer for cutting to the chase and having well priced contracts to start with.
